Hardest part of the journey is getting accepted, after that you will someday wear the white coat and make a difference in people's lives! Unless you don't like white coats like me but that's a whole other video!
    Don't forget to like, share, subscribe, jeeeeez I bet everyone is sick of hearing that phrase. oh well...

    Holy - so good to know most top kids DON'T go to class. I'm a 3rd year med student in Australia and have NEVER gone to a non-mandatory class and have consistently been top of class for last 2 years. It is much more efficient use of your time to just study yourself. Keep it up bro!

    I completely agree with what you said. Hard things are still doable; the most intimidating thing is when someone tells you that something is “too hard.” I’m a freshman in highschool, and they opened up AP classes for us to take. I decided to take one, as well as honors chemistry and geometry, and a gifted language arts class. Although my teachers vehemently discouraged me not to take it, I did and it was absolutely doable as long as I managed my time. Thank you for the video!

    Thanks I needed to hear this. I'm still trying to pursue becoming a doctor, but some days it's tough hearing how tough it is getting into medical school and how tough medical school is. I'm constantly wondering if I am good enough.
    Hearing your thoughts and experience just made me feel a lot better. I'm not afraid of hard work, so I will just have to keep grinding away.

You can't even defend what a doctor does, just say "I love doing it." YOU are what's wrong with medicine today, becoming a doctor with absolutely no idea of why you're even doing it. Goddam.

    Shoutout to this man right here. I appreciate your positivity on the subject. Like many others in the comments below (or above) other channels have a negative mindset (let's not discredit the possibility that they might be keeping it real) but the initial mindset itself is a massive part of being able to do something. I can relate to the concept you spoke about: the "stepping up" situation where you're put into a class that so many others label as "too difficult". I've taken Biochemistry (legendary hardest class in my college) as well as Parasitology (many others struggled) but its these classes that I seem to have succeeded in the most. Let's keep the vibe going friend. Stay on it!

    Thanks for this video! It’s so refreshing to hear someone optimistic! I’m still a premed and it’s so disheartening when your pushing and struggling mid semester but you have deeply rooted reasons and passions for why you feel called to medicine that far surpasses the financial aspect and all around you everyone is telling you “don’t do it. Just become a CRNA. Medical school is so hard you won’t be able to have a family or blah blah blah.” So when you are struggling and all you are hearing is everyone telling you you are nuts and wasting your time, it’s easy to have a tiny voice in the back of your head make you question if you are right or if they are just negative because my reasons aren’t theirs.
    So I’ve just kept pushing on and working hard because their negativity has not changed my convictions of why I want this so bad but it’s still nice to finally see someone say something remotely positive! I really appreciate the time you put into this! It’s the first video I’ve seen of yours and I am looking foreword to watching mor of your content over winter break. Thanks again! 🤓👊🏻

    Thank you so much for this video. Your mentality about life "I can do it, even if people tell me it's hard" is something I wish I had a lot earlier. All throughout high school my counselors/my parents would tell me taking too many AP classes/doing that extra thing was too hard, and I would believe them and second-guess myself. I admire your hard work, belief in yourself, and your ambitions!

    It was hilarious when you talked about going to class. Professors at my school always complain about us not going to lecture. Literally 6 people out of 70 will show up.
    But yeah I agree, you don't necessarily have to put your entire life on hold for 4 years but as with everything, there are priorities. Sometimes you have to choose your career, your future, etc over that wedding, party or family event. Such is life. *shrugs*

    I’m a senior right now and ever since I started high school and got exposed to the medical field through my health science clinical classes, It always encouraged me more to become a doctor. When I got stressed out i always doubted that I’d ever be a good doctor because I’ll never have time for me to be me. I felt like I didn’t believe in myself enough and this dream is going to always stay a dream. This vid helped me realize that everything is possible and I shouldn’t doubt myself just yet. Thank you so much :)

    Thank you! I needed this inspiration so bad! I quit studying recently for the mcat because I thought if I didn’t do well and get in this cycle I would give up. I’m 28 so I feel super old. I want to do preventative medicine and I’m afraid I won’t be able to use nutrition therapy like I want to. I’m super into Buddhism so that is dictating how I feel. As far as wanting to live a simple life. I definitely think I can handle it and would rather study and learn new things than have a family. But I also want to travel most of my life and I feel like with this video I’ve realized that “having a life” and traveling is possible. Coming from someone who has self esteem issues and never considered myself good enough to become a doctor, thank you!

I hope it inspires others to pursue medicine/ tougher challenges in life ♥️. Before I entered my vet school, I was extremely fearful of having to give up on some personal things in my life but after completing my first year, I realized I didn’t have to. Thank you for making this video it really helped clarify and confirm the advice I have heard from doctors as advice on going into the medical field. I agree with your point about if you push your self you will be able to do it. I have had a lot of people say that as a junior in high school that I cannot handle being a competitive athlete and be in a two-year program of college classes plus high school, AP classes, IB classes, and honors classes. Your point is exactly right people can handle it if they try hard enough and have enough determination I have been able to. Thank you for the advice!

    Congratulations on having the courage to put yourself out there for UA-cam, but I have an issue with one point you made. You implied that in the triangle of friends/family, career, and self, you have to pick two, but in my opinion, that is not a great message. I'm currently finishing my first semester of medical school (I went to every lecture btw, it is helpful for a lot of people), I'm finishing with really good scores, and I never had to sacrifice my friendships or mental health to be successful. Yes you have to give up some free time, but saying that you have to let your friends drift away because you're constantly studying is just unhealthy. Part of being a doctor is taking care of yourself, and that means being social and connecting with family and friends, and taking time to take care of your own mental and physical health too. You give up some things for medical school but you should NEVER give up that.

    Man I remember in my undergrad when I switched programs things didn't workout properly, I wasn't able to take classes the way I wanted to since there was no room so I had to take like 4 electives and 1 core class, so I was left with taking like 5 core classes in the semesters after that. People kept saying there's no way I could handle it, but once I did it they didn't say anything else lol. My advisor at first didn't recommend it, he said I could if I wanted to but he said it'd be hard etc, but then my final semester he encouraged me to lmao.

    Oh my gosh I really wish my classes weren't mandatory😭 ALL of my classes, even freakin lectures with audiobook professors are mandatory and it makes my life MISERABLE. I have no time for anything and days with classes from 8-8 is just so impractical cause I have time to eat in between and by the time I get home, I'm dead on my bed☹️

    Thanks for sharing this. Can you do a video of how to find out about medical schools? For example how to know the study pattern or curriculum of a med school. Right now, i have the idea to call different med schools to ask them about this before sending my amcas application to them. What is your opinion on this? Do you have any other methods? Also i know scholarships are almost a no-go area when talking about medical schools, but do you happen to have any info on this

      Dam I’ve wondered the same thing! Like when people say they’re interested in a specific specialty and know the right schools for that?

    I am so excited to go to college next year, I am still deciding my short term goals for undergraduate. I am planning between getting my masters in biology to teach and adding my prerequisite for pre-med, or taking public health and minoring in research. My long term is get my spot reserved at my university in the D.O. program.

    Took me 2 application cycles to get into med school, and currently 3 weeks in. It is not as bad as I expected. It is different, but not impossible. Thanks for your videos Medbros! Been watching them for awhile, and I decided to share my journey on UA-cam as well. Check me out sometime! You have to play at the next level to RISE to that level. Truly believe in those words.

    • @ADK117
      @ADK117 6 років тому +6

      YourStudyMate I can agree with you that during residency, significant sacrifices must be made. Once you are an attending however, in general you can craft the life you want based on location, hours, pay, etc..

    • @ADK117
      @ADK117 6 років тому +7

      YourStudyMate Also I can guarantee that to be a successful entrepreneur, you have to work just as hard as a resident if not harder. Even then, an entrepreneur is not secured a significant salary at the end and the company can fail at time.

    it's hard to take the profession srsly anymore since they changed the residency requirements from 80 hrs a wk to 40 hrs a week. Now it's a party profession and party school just like law & the law school where they have 1 exam a yr/semester for the entire class... althought it's practically ur grade. but still -- hard to find any MD that studies or knows their stuff ...

    Hello! Thank you for such an inspiring video! Could you shed some light on gender treatment in certain specialties? I am interested in Surgery but often hear it’s male dominated and biased to males in terms of fair treatment of residents...just curious on your thoughts and what I’m (potentially) up against! Love videos thus far!!
