- The 1973 New Zealand Motocross Championship, held at Gee's Farm, featured individual finals for the A, B and C Grades for the very first time.
The event, run by the Hamilton Motor Cycle Club, was sponsored by Coleman's Suzuki and saw great racing in all three classes - including what the circuit announcer calls an "unbelievable battle" between Ross McLaren and Peter Ploen.
Ivan Miller's hopes suffer a big setback in heat one, while Hugh Anderson has to fight his way back through the pack in race two, before a final race decider...
Anderson and McLaren are racing the new SC500 Yamaha, while Miller had a factory Suzuki.
A Grade
1st Hugh Anderson, (500cc Yamaha SC), 22 points.
2nd Ross McLaren, (500cc Yamaha SC), 19 points.
3rd Ivan Miller, (400cc Factory Suzuki), 18 points.
B Grade
1st Moss Smith, (Yamaha)
2nd Stewart Witchell, (Husqvarna)
3rd Larry Ross, (Yamaha)
C Grade
1st Trevor Jones, (Yamaha)
2nd Peter Boyle, (Suzuki)
