  • HMHS Britannic, launch and construction during 1914 at Harland and Wolff shipyards, Belfast. After the outbreak of World War One, Britannic was requisitioned for use as a hospital ship and was repainted white with a horizontal green stripe and large red crosses and was renamed HMHS (His Majesty's Hospital Ship) Britannic under the command of Captain Charles A. Bartlett. On 21 November 1916 Britannic was on her eighth voyage when she struck a mine off Kea Island and sank in less than an hour. 1,125 crew and medical staff were rescued.

so sad that she never experienced a normal transatlantic voyage. But you can see on Google Images, plans and depictions of her interior. Very lavish.

Her workers are so joyous of her as she was launch. Many of them worked on Olympic and Titanic, and many were heart broken when they got news of the disaster some of them cried. Can you imagine how crestfallen they must've been when they learn Britannic sunk and faster than Titanic did.

It would be wonderful to dive to Britannic's wreck in Greece. But I believe it stays only as my dream :( I've read that they want to make it as underwater museum for tourists. I'm really interested in Titanic's generations ships ! This was really bigger than her famous sister.

If I was extremely wealthy rich. I would have a modern day clone copy of RMS BRITANNIC II built in harland and wolff ship yard. In Belfast Ireland. This ship would serve as my floating home. BRITANNIC II would have modern day technology well hidden. My ship would have about 355 to 485 live on board guest. And a crew complemented around 568. Mostly of ex Navy people who have the best training in the world. This ship would be the best looking ship in the world. I would give RMS BRITANNIC II the life that the original one never had. During the ships first voyage it would go around the world.

It's sad that we didn't see the RMS Britannic instead she quickly turned into H.M.H.S Britannic

I'm amazed that Britannic's promenade deck wasn't closed in fully from bow to stern say if Titanic didn't sink and the three sisters were docked at the same time you could tell them apart how sweet would it have been to see Olympic Titanic & Britannic at a dock at the same time we can only dream

Its pretty sad that they never replaced the Titanic with a fourth Olympic-Class liner to still fulfill the dream of the White Star Line, to have two ships at port and one traveling on the ocean.

This is absolutely amazing! As someone with a lifelong fascination with the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries, particularly maritime history, this is a terrific discovery. This footage really captures just how meticulous and precarious construction on the Olympic Class ships and overall shipping industry was. I believe the launch footage was rediscovered in the early 2000s, but the funnel installation is something I've never seen before and shows their immensity. Where did you find this archival footage? It'd be worth my while paying a visit to theTitanic Quarter in Belfast and perhaps gaining some access to the Cunard Archives in Liverpool. The Maritime Museum and outstanding Museum of Liverpool are brilliant and were thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you for putting this together with the sound and music, and especially for sharing.

Thank you so much for posting these videos for us to see. I have been an Olympic Class historian for what is basically my entire life. When I was six I saw a Ken Marschall painting of the Lusitania sinking and I've been hooked on ocean liners, particularly the Titanic, ever since. Britannic was always something special to me and I've always been intrigued by these ships. They all have a certain soul and life of their own and the fact that Titanic will soon be gone but Britannic will be around for a long time to come just makes me want to see her. These ships have always had a very special place in my heart and it really feels good to see that I'm not the only one. Thank you again for all of these videos and your dedication to keeping the memory of these grand liners alive.
