    Man, I didn’t know what to do with myself without your videos. I get my tool fix from your videos in order to keep a happy marriage. Wife just doesn’t understand why I need so many tools. Lol

    You make an interesting point about dirt and push button pliers. I never really thought about it, but indeed, that's something I would be careful about with the Cobras. That said, the flat tire joints just drive me nuts. I find they slip out of position on the pliers that I've had that use them very easily, and, just the same, they easily get stuck out of position when they move. I think maybe for really dirty situations, the Channellock groove-style joints really are the best deal, if the Cobras do indeed work badly for that.

      The tools can easily be cleaned, but it is just the same if I'm working on a friend's car and it is filthy, I'll use my older tools, lol. Once you have used Cobras, almost anything 'manual" tend to suck in comparison. I think over time we can adapt to what we have, but Channellocks are a bit easier to seat properly.

      @@lonestarmopars I'm with you there, I think. When I was thinking of dirty, I was thinking about wet dirty, like fixing a pipe in a muddy ditch. Cobras would be a pain to dry out I think--it looks like the easiest way to do it would be to unscrew the Torx screw that holds the spring tab that holds the button, and pop the button out--that just sounds like a mess to me. Incidentally, have you seen the chrome Cobras? I have them in 12," and I really love them.

      The ChannelLocks just seem to me to be a compromise tool. The teeth are badly aimed and dull, and not seriously hardened. They seem to have a lacquer finish, which can actually trap water under it and rust. Meh, they definitely are my beater tools now. Also, I can't figure out much that the strait jawed ChannelLocks are as good as other things for. If I want to get something rounded, the Cobras would be my go-to, and if I want to get something with flat surfaces, I'd grab my Pliers Wrenches (Knipex or Gedore).

    There are other good pliers out there but nothing beats Knipex. Especially the Cobras are outstanding. Someone in a tool forum did put it straight: "Regarding pliers - only buy Knipex. If you think you can't afford that, buy less pliers but buy Knipex. There is no alternative."

      Wouldn't say the guy was wrong! I'd say availability over here is their biggest weakness and I believe they are working on that.

    Woah lucky you! I've had my eye on that set. Not sure which design looks better to me.
    From needle noses to nut busters, feel like I can always count on my Channellocks to get the job done, but I've been slowly replacing them with Knipex. While overall I've been really impressed with Channellock's quality, the last couple pairs I bough had only a passable fit and finish IMHO. Knipex pliers have always been superbly finished and fitted.
    I'm a little reluctant to try any of the Alligator style pliers though since the design looks a lot like the pliers that came in BMW car's factory took kits. Having a pair of BMW tool kit pliers is just barely better than having none at all. Those are the only German brand tool I've been disappointed in. The Knipex and the Wiha ones you've shown look a lot better though, with more strength in the fulcrum.

      I certainly didn't anticipate winning, but was super happy. I have tried for months to get the new Channellock pliers and they are never available. I talked to a supplier at work a few weeks ago and he said that Channellock use to be family owned and sold out a few years back, and kind of altered some stuff. I'm still happy with their new stuff, but have noticed it varies a bit. Had that with Klein screwdrivers a couple years back. The crazy thing with Channellock is it is quality, made in America, and still affordable! Knipex has yet to disappoint me. The smaller pliers in this set look like their Alligators. I will have to look at the BMW kits, lol.

      @@lonestarmopars Yeah, I completely agree. I think Channellock still has incredible quality for the price point. And made in the USA too? Can't beat that. I haven't tried their new design either though. I was mostly thinking about a pair of regular slip joint pliers that arrived with one of the sides of one of the jaws ground down really unevenly with the other jaw. Now that I think about it, I almost wonder if they weren't damaged, returned and resold or something. Also, I imagine I might be able to get them warrantied, but it's really not that bad. It doesn't really affect their functionality as long as I remember to use the good side if I need it.

    Nice video 👍. How’s the quality of the Wiha pliers? Since they’re made Vietnam I’ve been wondering but not enough to purchase

      Thanks! Shortly after filming this I had an accident at work and have kind of been unable to do much "work." I am also not sure which version of these is "newer." In terms of other pliers they make, I've really liked their BiCut Pliers, which are also forged in Vietnam. I have no complaints with them. The smaller 2 pliers in this video are a lot like the Knipex Alligator...I would almost suggest you try one of each, or if funds are tight go with the Wihas. Sorry I'm not more help at the moment.

    • @HunGredy
      @HunGredy 5 років тому +1

      Based on German Tool Reviews' comments across multiple videos, they are usable but the quality assurance overlooks smaller, fine details. One example would be less deburred edges, another is a not perfectly aligned grinder for the surface finish, but they do the job. I suggest you watch GTR's pliers showdowns, since mt of them include a Wiha as well. If you are not as picky, go for them. But if you are a perfectionist, you can go even beyond Knipex with rebrands such as Würth Cobras (meaning Würth allows even fewer mistakes to keep prices up, which means Cobras supplied to them by Knipex are selectively checked).

    I must store my channel locks 1 spot from closed. This keep the head and handle the most optimally closed. OCD I picked up over the years from storing my tools in my bags lol.

    Do you prefer the WIHA pliers or the Gedore?

      Both have their place. With my accident happening shortly after, I haven't gotten to use these very much. I do like hte smaller ones better as they articulate easier. If you want a budget set, these are solid. If you want a push button, I'd go with the Gedores KC Tool sent me.
