Why is giving away money good? What if you give it to people who can't manage it? The only reason most people don't self-destruct is because they can't afford to. Remove that obstacle and they are ruined.
I tip my hat to Mr. Feeny. Contrary to many billionaires who only talk big and use the pledge to save on taxes, he actually gave it all away. I wish him and his wife a happy retirement, may every day be as you wish it to be.
True but 2 million left for retirement is rather risky, especially with potential medical costs. You can blow 10k+ a month just on 24/7 medically certified caretakers.
We are all screwed if 2 mil is a “risky retirement”. Using the 4% rule, that would generate 80K a year with a low chance of impacting the capital over a 30 year period. Seniors in many countries can access subsidised health care too. If they drew down $120K per year to cover 10K a month medical expenses, assuming a 6% investment return and a 3% inflation, that 2 mil would last 24 years. He’s currently 89 years old. He probably doesn’t need his money to last another 30 years.

Left out the infamous Hunt brothers who tried to corner the market in silver. I remember cashing in my teenage coin collection when the price of silver went over $40 an ounce. Turns out a lot of other people did the same and they ran out of money to buy more silver.
Holms would not be a 'self-made' billionaire even if Theranos was legit, you can't be self-made if your dad is also a billionaire and has many billionaire friends.
This is a good point. You can’t discount how much more opportunity you have access to in making a business possible when you have connections like this. A random Stanford drop out wouldn’t get the time of day from all the people she did thanks to her family. Buffett I think isn’t entirely fair in comparison but definitely has some similarity. Buffett learned a lot from his father about the business from a young age. And his fathers career in investing had a huge impact. Example, Warren invested in his fathers farm at an extremely young age and made a large profit from it. But outside of that he spent years operating as a businessman and making wild decisions about money and investment you’d never see from a kid his age. He had the equivalent of $100K saved by the time he was in college from his choices growing up. But where his fathers influence definitely played a role is Warren aligning with Benjamin Hraham. Graham went into business with him because of his clear intelligence but one has to imagine Warren would be laughed out of a building if not for who his father was. But he is also one who demonstrated an immense track record of merit prior to any of this unlike Holmes. He was clearly qualified for the endeavors he entered, it being proven for years at a young age, before he did anything with Graham. Holmes on the other hand was never qualified and never became qualified for any of what she did.
I always enjoy your videos. This one had an excellent ending with someone doing great good instead of loosing it, while still alive so the proceeds after death wouldn't be eaten up administratively or litigated into oblivion.

Hey Patrick! Love your content, keep up the good work! Quick question: Shouldn't there be a standardized formulae for privately held companies. Forbes has made it a habit of declaring folks billionaires only to rescind later or attach erroneous valuations that are subjective. Case in point Kyle Jenner/Kyle Cosmetics. Currently the are declaring Rihanna a Billionaire worth $1.7B based on her shareholding of Fenty Cosmetics. Same case supplies to Kanye West / Yeezy Brand partnership with Addidas. Any thoughts?

How can a person have such a refined humour!!! Brilliant move wearing that black turtleneck!
Patrick is the only youtuber I listen to when he recommends something 😂
😂😂
jony
Seeing the Margin Call graphic gave me the thought that Patrick should do a regular series of finance movie reviews.
YES!
Hi Patrick enjoyed the video, thanks
17:44 - This part is interesting when you consider that she got $2.5 billion in 1999 and if you spend $50k every day, it would take you about 54 years to go through a billion... (Unless I'm miscalculating it)
I believe that artwork were money moving schemes.
The cat lady probably didn't knew that the paintings were fake
The wisest thing that should be on every wise individual's list is to invest in different stream of income and don't depend on the government to bring in money especially now the pandemic is hitting the economy
Investments are the stepping Stones to success especially if you been guided by a professional
Investing is good but investing in the right thing is the actual key to success . who is your pro ?
That was exactly what I did, I trade with a professional stock expert "Tamara Diane Hagan " who i met in one of the seminars..
There are so many investment out there but if profits must be considered then not all investments are good to go into.
I have been able to make maximum profits off my trade with $40,000 and I have amassed about $190,000 in net profit In 4 weeks
“UA-cam has predicted that you’ll want to watch this video next, let’s see if they’re right” very smooth Patrick!
Man that was smooth as glass. Loved it.
Not only I enjoy learning from your insights in the financial world (I know absolutely nothing about the stock market) BUT your sense of humour makes your videos great (Turtleneck for Theranos?! genius!)
When Patrick came in a turtleneck....i was hands down deaddd

Patrick might be a hot contender for the driest humour in the history of mankind award. Such pokerface ability should only be allowed in public with a special dispensation from the kings council.
Thanks for the tip....The Daily Upside newsletter!!!
Thanks Dan, I think you will enjoy it.
sean quinns net worth over time is literally a wallstreetbets portfolio
The black turtleneck killed me 😂😂
Left out the infamous Hunt brothers who tried to corner the market in silver. I remember cashing in my teenage coin collection when the price of silver went over $40 an ounce. Turns out a lot of other people did the same and they ran out of money to buy more silver.
You have an excellent presentation style for this type of content, great job.
Patrick, I thoroughly enjoy your material. But how about doing an episode on your wardrobe?
Love the commitment on the patented holmes black turtleneck lol
When you personally guarantee a loan backed by a foreign government, your debts become a matter of diplomacy.
I love the turtle neck bit! Great stuff!
The Bernie madoff stories stuns me, he ran that type of ponzi scheme for long and involving a lot of money
7:18 that's just brilliant subtle comedy 😂🐢
I'd check your microphone levels and distance, it's not sounding too great.
The last guy is a hero and has probably saved more lives than he will ever know
7:18 British Steve Jobs doesn't exist, he can't hurt you.
Irish, i think.
With that accent. Defo
That sweater change got me good. I'm still laughing.
The Black Turtle neck, I'm dying LOL. Too fuuny
Holms would not be a 'self-made' billionaire even if Theranos was legit, you can't be self-made if your dad is also a billionaire and has many billionaire friends.
A bit like when Warren Buffet started out - his Father being a senator he was straight into The Club.
@@CosmicSeeker69 I take your point but he was a Congressman. Theres a big difference in power.
Lets go Charles "Chuck" Feeney!!! I find it sad I never knew of him before, this man should be heralded.
I always enjoy your videos. This one had an excellent ending with someone doing great good instead of loosing it, while still alive so the proceeds after death wouldn't be eaten up administratively or litigated into oblivion.
The humor on this video, its too good.
The turtle neck got me. Fantastic content Mr. Boyle
“Apparently the Holy Spirit likes using 5:1 leverage in his investment portfolio.” -Benjamin
@Patrick Boyle▫️ warning this a scam account.
hahaha, love the subtle humor! the black turtle neck was hilarious, well played sir...
Thank you for this fascinating video! If only we could all do it like Chuck Feeney. Btw, the black turtleneck is very snazzy! I feel a sudden compulsion to invest in your startup.
That’s black turtle neck is priceless 😂😂😂
Very resourceful.
But doesn't she only partly own fenty?
Kanye west is actualy seeing revenue with adidas that's close to valuation
@@jidionclips_fan5720 that didn't age well.
@@geetee2694 I didnt think bro would do that fam

I love that subtle black turtleneck switch up!
I pressed the like button when I saw Patrick in turtle neck to tell the story of Elizabeth Holmes. Then I noticed I haven't subscribed yet, so I pressed that button as well.
I love how Patty weaves in expert tolling while being very serious and proper and knowledgeable

Love the outfit switch for the holmes segment - subscribed!
