  • Dr. Diana Walsh Pasulka is a Professor of religious history at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her research focuses on religion and technology, but it was her research about purgatory specifically that lead her to UFO culture, a journey she documents in her book, American Cosmic. Here she helps us understand the connection between tech, religion & aliens, explains why you might think about something & then see it show up in your life & why some Christians get offended at the idea of interplanetary life.

Diana's book "American Cosmic" was a revelation for me and now, knowing that Dr. Garry Nolan was "James", added more to the quality of the book.
Also, It is good to know that Diana didn't make any money from that book as it was published by Oxford University Press.
Thank you, Meredith for this good quality interview and your beautiful presence!

I'd prefer it if people actually did make money off of their labor. If more people could do that then more credible people would write about interesting topics. I understand not trusting someone who wants to exploit, but many people who may not have an academic career would not have the time to produce something like this without some kind of remuneration. I like, actually expect, getting paid for my work and don't want to see someone else denied that because it is deemed more real or believable if people work for free. If we want more of this work we need to support it financially not just with words or views. Just a thought.

This may sound odd, but I'm listening to this podcast and the discussion is on "Synchronicity." My wife hands me Dr Pasulka's book "American Cosmic". It had just arrived by USPS. The book had been delayed by Amazon for some unknown reason and I didn't know when it would arrive.
I accidentally found this podcast. I hadn't heard of "Meredith For Real," but it ended up in my my UA-cam feed about 45 minutes ago. I chose it due to Dr Diana Pasulka being interviewed. What a day.
BTW, I am now subscribed. Too many coincidences.

Actually she doesn’t know the truth all of what she is saying it’s false . She is LEADING PEOPLE TO LOSE THEIR SOULS please remember in the last days many will will stray from the truth . The Antichrist is already near if not here already the weak of Spirit and truth will be lost to Lucifer. Be careful of what you believe, ready the book of Revaluation . See what the real truth is . Even the ones that seem to be strong in faith will fall for the lies . Ask God for enlightenment.

I watched this because I've been following Diana Pasulka for a while and have read her book, American Cosmic. Glad I did, because she said more in this interview about her parents and childhood than I've heard before. And she gave more of her own views, such as that people should wake up to what our present world is like at a younger age, so as not to engage as much in perpetuating the horrible treatment of others that goes on as a side effect of working only to get ahead, etc.. I'm looking forward to her next book.

What an interesting talk. Thank you. I would just like to say that on a personal level in my experience, these beings are here to assist with our spiritual development. Briefly , at the age of thirty i had a very close encounter with an eight foot tall femail visitor. On a very busy saterday morning in a shopping center I was flabbergasted that only i could see her. As she walked through the crowd, at a distance of about fifty or sixty feet our eyes met. Astonished, i watched her until she drew level with me at which point she smiled. I was struck dumb. Two nights later i had a very detailed precognitive dream which transpired in perfect detail. These continued for some time giving me reliable information on future personal events culminating in a full on out of body near death experience. My life was changed forever. I already studied the mystery religions and went on to involve myself in buddhist and daoist practice where i remain. Happily fulfilled. Thanks again, ljf.

This was a wonderful conversation and I really connected with the comment of Dr Pasulka's young memory of the nun's helping others as it was impactful and gave her direction. I also think it is possible that there is no differences between religion and ufology. People see the supernatural and it changes them. Maybe these two are part of the same.

Just found this in discovering Dr.Pasulka. Thank you so much for this interview. I have subscribed and will definitely be a regular viewer. I was captivated from your intro and I found your questions perfect and insightful. These are deep things that many of us are coming to discover and it has all always been there. Synchronicity has brought me to Dr.Pasulka and it has brought me to you. We have a lot of work to do to get to the "Less asshole world" we all want, but I feel more and more that people are doing it without even realizing. As bad as the negative forces are, the good in all of us is a hundred times as strong. As I watch the news in the last months and I am doing serious soul research on the biggest things...I have found hope. I see many burned fields...but among them, a lone flower blooms. After the horror will come peace.

I could listen to Diana all day and certainly enjoyed her book! Can’t wait for the next one. One word that could be added to the discussion is ‘Myth’’ not as ‘’unreal’’ but as having real impact on our ‘’reality’’, Carl Jung flying saucer little book, Daimonic (not demonic) reality by Patrick Harpur and The Soul’s code by James Hillman are certainly worth reading.

Thank you for providing a concise summary of Dr. Diana Walsh Pasulka's work and the topics she discusses in her book "American Cosmic." She explores the relationship between religion, technology, and UFO culture, particularly how her study of purgatory led her to delve into the realm of UFOs. In her research, she delves into the connections between these seemingly disparate subjects, including how people's thoughts might manifest in their experiences and why some Christians might be uncomfortable with the idea of extraterrestrial life.

Diana Pasulka is the best! I thought it was odd and interesting that the interviewer laughed and scoffed at the notion that aliens could be demonic. Even if you take it out of the Christian framework, it is pretty naive to assume that all aliens are good. And a basic understanding of abductee experiences shows that many people have experiences that are extremely negative and traumatic. But they must be here to save us!

This was hell of a good interview❤ ya gotta get Gary Little on to discuss his book Origin of the Gods. He makes a compelling argument for the UAP- paranormal connection that dovetails perfectly with what Diana Pasulka's research has uncovered. This guy doesn't get near enough exposure, and his ideas need to get heard by a greater audience.

I met Timothy Good; Jacques Valle sent me a signed card; I've attended Ozarks conferences. All related to a small dark grey oval domed object sailed over my head, as a kid, daytime, in Austin, Texas, 1963.
Degrees, Stanford people, none of that matters to me in this next generation of ufology theories!
Most especially religion studies! (I'm out of history & grad history of science), none of which matters one iota! I believe Good & Vallee, are 2 of the best!
But I found some answers in this documentary and their channel, The Thunderbolts Project! A new theory that explains ALL religions & traditions, no kidding! And finds fault with so many ancient astronaut theories, reptilian statues, and all the art ufologists use for "proof", it's wrong!
Here's the real truth, that ALL of us must realize! Involving plasma physics, planetary science, and an electric universe!
It is the SOURCE OF ALL THE RELIGIONS! It is also the driving inspiration for places like Gobekli tepi, why they buried it, Stonehenge, and ALL the monumental cultures; it's what DROVE US, and all the myths & stories!
The only question, is the COSMOS purposeful & intelligent, that's it! Or just dumb-luck these events happened long long ago, yet were remembered for millenia!
Until scholars, historians, archeologists, theologians, classicists, mythologists, and all of us understand this most ancient prior event, ALL dogmas, beliefs, ancient astronaut theories, ETs, and ALL religions, are FALSE & MISLEADING. Understanding real events and the way we "interpret" these spiritually, the myths we tell, have made us better, led us to incredible developments, but ALL our understandings have GREAT GAPS! Please let her know this, & "see" some truth in this particular subject.

Disclaimer...Infj, 4th generation atheist, cradle Catholic! My observation is that humankind is ready to accept reality...It was man who created the God of the bible and the Jesus story is just a story...Old ways of thinking will not survive in the present time of knowing. We are one and we are earning our place in the universe...A delightful conversation, you boost my confidence in humankind and our innate ability to evolve! To see this happening in my lifetime is a gift we all should be sharing. I know the community of faith is suffering. It's an all-natural awakening that solves the problem! We have been standing on Heaven...All my love to the creators of the universe and those who protect nature!

Humankind will never be ready to accept reality. Most people r much too stubborn. They r hopeless cases. During Covid they refused to listen to reason, n that's only 1 example of many. The God of the Bible was an ET or a group of ETs, n the gods of the Sumerians, Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, etc., etc. were also ETs.
And no one created the universe--it had no beginning, n will have no end.

Interesting that in USA there are all these labels of religion, beliefs, spirituality, occult, pagan, magic, new age. I am both a scientist and mystic type, worked years in the high Himalaya. Things are just either true or not, no blind 'beliefs'. They say there should be no discrepancy between true science and true spirituality. Problem with western science also atm is a blind belief in materialism, which is stupid and unscientific, and defies the most basic laws of physics. The yogis said that a big obstacle for americans (apart from the american exceptionalism and nihilism), is the need to have everything neatly conceptualized and labelled, and put in nice little boxes. Can't rest in the truth and inconceivable. I hope Diana might look more into the eastern texts and teachings (yes of the brown skinned people), as many CIA/ scientist types are reluctantly doing now, although the white man is still saying they are 'discovering' or 'disclosing' things like ufos and ndes, multidimensionality. Material scientists are still looking for the 'nothing' that apparently exists when we die, which is psychotic by definition. The big final anesthesia that many americans seek, after drugs etc. I want to see one of my science colleagues win the Nobel Prize for finding this 'nothing' that apparently exists, place it on the table, as well as the ultimate particle they are desperately looking for (everything dissolves under analysis actually). xo

Great guest, and although you did a great job, may I recomend you only put one comercial in your videos? I probably am not going to take the chance to check out any more of your content, because I spent more time having to go back to my phone and skip comercials. If your intentions are to take someone elses hard work and important thoughts on important topics, and exploit them, then I'm sorry but it seems tranparent and disrespectful. Lex Friedman did 3 hours with her and had none. Her views and hard work and sacrifices should be shared to all who care, without distractions. If you can't see that then it really makes me ask myself how much are your familiar with her work or beliefs. Don't take this as disrespectful, but maybe ask someone close to you who is honest with you what they think.

Thanks for your feedback Rex! I'll check my UA-cam settings to see if it allows for adjustments. YT used to let you control ads, but now they can run ads on even non-monitozed channels, meaning the creator has no control if ads are run and what ads are run. Filming in this way is also costly & to be honest I don't make enough from YT to even begin to cover the costs of production (not yet at least. Fingers crossed). Either way I appreciate your feedback, especially since it was both honest & respectful. Thanks for stopping by. ♥️

@@MeredithForReal thank u for having the intelligence to not take that as a disrespect. I think that u might have a God blessed calling to bring this kind of information forward, and might not even realize the context and importance of what you are bringing to the people with this knowledge. I am going to literally pray tonight for u to really dig into her story and question to yourself why mee maw had such a strong aversion to that technology back then. Her interview on "theories of everything" is a good start. Even if u have to take a whole day and watch it while pausing to research their language and what they are saying to put it into context, I promise that if u do, and ask yourself true questions with an open mind, it might just lead to your dark night of the soul. Idk why I feel that way but in context to your seemingly open minded and curious nature, it reminds me of my young self. UFOs are the same as Prometheus bringing fire in real time, and the evidence to support that is absolutely apparent and obvious if you follow your intuition. Don't just believe everyone who tells you your world is, and really ask yourself if the "allegory" of the cave could theoretically be true, then why could you or I be in it to some extent or another. God bless you and your obvious good nature, if taking commercials off of your channel is what it might take for you right now to promote your obvious blessed line of thinking, then sacrifices might have to be made. I almost felt like they put so many commercials in that video as to turn people off from hearing the truth. If you have it within you to really study what she has been thru and what it means for u, our country, our world, and today, I promise that it can lead to some of the most profound understandings of what's really happening in our world today.

@@MeredithForReal oh, n by the way, since u had the courage and decency and maturity to handle that honesty that I tried to drop on u, I will be back to see more of your work. I also am sorry for misjudging you as just trying to make a buck off this lady's sacrifices and hard work. I just take it personally that so many people can't see what's going on and are focused on money or other self driven motives. Still though that was wrong and I truly am sorry. You taught me something today more valuable than the video itself. Please consider re investigating her work and maybe asking her what does this mean for the us today, our military industrial complex, war, and history. The opportunity alone to interview her, u might not know it but you literally had an opportunity for a multi million view count episode, and you missed your boat. I wish I had the aesthetics and personality to get her message pushed forward before there isn't an opportunity. You obviously do. Please reconsider reaching back out to her after respecting her work, and again asking her further questions. I feel with your feminine inquiry and genuine thirst for bigger real questions, that you'll find the perfect ones. She has returned to other platforms more than once and I have faith would return to yours. God bless you in whatever your endeavors nonetheless, and as they say, u can lead a horse to water...

When I read something strange, I like to go to Amazon and see what others say. So, wow. Where to begin? I call B.S. on a lot of this book. So, she knows this guy "Tyler," who is super rich because he communicates with some alien presence that somehow downloads alien technology into Tyler's head, which he then turns into real products like, presumably, the iphone (?). And, since he was a kid, he started to have abduction experiences where he was, like, totally paralyzed by little men, or something like that (the author, a "religious studies scholar," which she states again and again, never mentions the large body of work on sleep paralysis vis-a-vis alien abduction). And he is so famous that merely mentioning "who he is" to the guards gets him admitted into the Vatican's secret archives. Is this Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or Elon Musk? Who knows! Oh, and he's a Baptist (WTF?) who then converts to Catholicism once he visits the Vatican. Oh, and once he blindfolded the author and took her to a super-secret location in New Mexico with a metal detector and, lo and behold, they find an artifact on the first day that was determined to be "not from this universe," whatever that means, but she can't tell us about it, ok. Oh, and this site is where a medieval nun would bilocate and hang out. And, this isn't a fiction book.
The book is also jam-packed with the author's incessant humble-bragging..."Me, just a little ol' religious studies scholar who Hollywood consults for demon movies, here I am with some of the world's most powerful people who invent everything." On and on. Such a scholar! Yet, she says point-blank that the gospels were written by the apostles ("Eyewitnesses!"), which not only contradicts nearly all scholarship for the past century plus, but isn't really even a strong part of the Tradition with a capital T (they are universally dated long past when the apostles would have lived; e.g. "Luke" specifically says he isn't an eyewitness but studied other accounts). This is like Bible 101 in any college. Same goes for her claim that Buddha's disciples wrote down their testimonies. Uh, no. This time even a longer time span. Not to nitpick, but you can't humble-brag about being such an important religious studies scholar and not know these Level 1 type things.
Finally, what does the author contribute towards this timely topic? A lot of Captain Obvious stuff. Mostly, that people's perceptions of "reality" are often colored by their memories that often come from the media and other exposures. That's it as far as I can tell. So, duh.
