    Also, note Ale playing her new 5 string custom Spector bass here. Before the song, they showed everyone her new signature Spector bass "Golden Thunder" which will be on sale shortly. Think about it...she is only16 years old, is a Spector featured artist with her own signature model and has already recorded three studio albums. Amazing.

    The third option is watching a live concert performance that was professionally recorded. That is my favorite. You get the live feel, the live sound, and the live "show" they put on. Of course, there is actually being at a live show, but we can't always do that.

    Ale's bass tone is soooo much fatter live, was my only real knock on the studio cut/MV. Her bass wasn't as deep and resonant, here it really fills the backing spaces, and it's a great bass line.

    It's not over produced. It's well produced. There is a difference. Raw sound will never get air play or attract new fans. I love how it's been produced. My hat's off to Mr. Bendeth.

      Over layered? I'm sticking with overproduced. I don't think it captures how they sound live.

    • @markbell4982
      @markbell4982 3 роки тому +2

      @@matthewlloyd5130 it isn't supposed to capture how they sound live. If it was, there would be no need for a producer, mixing, ormonths in a studio. Regardless of what you think, they have always had help for the live to sound like the studio not the other way around. Every song they play live has extra instrumental tracks played during the performance to make it sound as full as the studio. This is the very same thing except it sounds cleaner. I think you will find you will get used to it and enjoy this album a lot before it's over. You got used to the piano from nowhere on Survive, right?

    • @matthewlloyd5130
      @matthewlloyd5130 3 роки тому +1

      @@markbell4982 I understand all that. What I'm saying is that on previous albums the extra tracks enhance the sound, whereas with Choke, the extra tracks seem to overwhelm the sound.. It strikes me that there's too much extra and when it's not there it sounds very different. I think Ale's bass stands out more in the Cave version than the studio version. That's what I mean by overproduced, there's too much extra that changes their sound. From the first listen I thought the riff sounded much better just Dany's one guitar than when the extra layers came in.. To me it's very different than the subtle piano in Survive. On Choke, the extra layers and production come across as the identifying aspects of the song. And I have to disagree, part of capturing a band's live sound IS essential to recording for an album. There's a balance that has to be struck. For me XXIst Century Blood and QotMS capture that balance. Choke goes too far into the layering and production for my taste.

      Make no mistake. Bendeth's job was to get a commercially viable sound. No studio exists to cater to a band, it's all about the $$$$$. Did I like the studio version? Loved it. Did I like the live version? Loved it. But I do like more of a live sound.

    I actually think the studio version is the best tracking of Dany’s voice in the studio to date. Yes, it is a commercial sound but not over the top. And most important the band is looking for a hit-Pau talked recently about how they will play arenas someday. This is NOT some indy band that would rather stay out of the spotlight. I believe they think they can stay true themselves and still be commercially successful, and I think they are right. They think they can take some risks and hold into their core fans, and I think they’ll do that too.

    As soon as you said it I heard the Vasoline comparison in my head.
    I've struggled with this song myself. It and Martirio, the Spanish language song on this album are similar tonally and neither are my thing. I do prefer this live version to the studio version however. And I'm a fan of The Warning, not any one song or even album. I'm glad to see them changing things up, I would hate it if they just retreaded old stuff and were afraid to experiment. The band certainly doesn't owe me anything, if they are satisfied with their results then that the only thing that matters.
    Also, they have really outgrown the basement. Even for a stripped down performance like this they just need more space to stretch their legs. It reminds me of the big cats in the zoo. It's a great rehearsal space, but they need a real stage, ever for a performance like this.

    As far as the differences between the recording and live, I’m relatively sure Ale

It's silly to focus so much on those few negative comments when the vast majority of comments are incredibly positive. As for your criticism in this video and the other one are totally valid and justified. The whole purpose of hiring an expert engineer and recording in world class studios is to get the best sound possible out of every instrument and vocal. A studio recording is not supposed to sound like a live show otherwise it would be pointless to see any band live, you'd just listen to the recording. While I think the official video is excellent as is the studio recorded song I do prefer the live performances, that's true with the two previous records and any other band (except Van Halen listening to a recording of a live Van Halen show is torture, being there in person is another story it's pure joy). The Warning did a great job doing this live. The main issue I hear is Dany's vocals are way too "on top" of the track. This song is sung with volume and the instrumentation kinda gets lost in the big vocal parts.

      Could be an intentional choice, that the vocals are more important than the instrumentation in those sections of the song. Not all the instruments are going to be perfectly balanced throughout the entire song. Some sections emphasize certain instruments for various reasons at different points. Dany's vocals were the highlight of the song for me and thought they were intentionally placed in front because of their impact.

      The Warning seems to have an habbit of putting Dany's on top on their live recordings. It pulls some of en energy out of the music. Not sure it if its because the girls based on they age, may have more references to modern pop than classic live rock, that they are looking for this clear vocal, instead of an vocal more inside the sound of the band.

    THIS Cave version is like you will experience the song LIVE at a concert. And it sounds great. It is always a problem, if the Studio/Record version gaps to the version can be played best live. My concern is that Sound Engineers will face a huge challenge to bring the Studio version up live in concert. So it will be more "The Warning" -like to support the raw Cave sound, which is to my ears even better.

    I think it was basically a good live performance. I think the volume of the guitar could have been turned up louder though even though Dany played it well and the sound of the guitar was great. The background vocals by Pau sounded a bit unsure (which is unusual) and not as subtle as an effect as in the official audio but overall she did her singing part well and played the drums like a killer as usual. Ale's vocals were obviously very just a really short passage but they were really stable so that was nice, and she played the bass very well as usual.

    And sorry, but you still do not have "Ale" right (a most friendly lolol). Just say the full name Alejandra a couple of times (The "e" there sounds like the "e" in "bet"). Then just say the first three letters with the emphasis in the "A".
    I am very happy that you are getting to see them live! I hope to get from you a play-by-play afterward.

    I don’t understand why reactors have to critique everything to death, I’ve been listening to music since the 60’s and you want to talk about some crappy live recordings, I can tell you. Not that this is that, but if you want to hear the live sound you go to the concert and bang your head, or go down to the local dive and sweat you ass off with the band it’s the experience that makes the live sound great. But I feel most musicians want to put the best product out they can from the studio. Do some bands abuse that, well hell yea, but the saying you can’t turn a turd into a rose has never been more truer here, you have to have great substance as a band, musician, entertainer, to be able to sustain, and I personally want to hear the best that the band feels they can do at the time, and not what some reactors think it needs. Sure the studio versions sound better, and yes it’s enhanced, not manipulated. So in a way this is not a gripe to you but it’s my reaction to your reaction. You don’t tell AC/DC that they need to play more than 3 chords or that Kurt Corbain needs singing lesson, or Keith Richards needs to play longer guitar solos, or even that the Warning needs to do anything, these girls first video has over 22 million views last I checked, how many 20 million vids have you put out ? I understand the concept of the first reaction platform, I watch these vids to see reactions not criticizing. These girls put out the best product they can with the abilities they have at the time, and they don’t apologize. So before you critique do your research, their music catalogue starts fro the early ages of 9-14 to currently 17-22, so has Dany had vocal lessons, well of course, they have also all been classically trained on the piano, they have trained at the Berkley Institute of Music, cut their teeth from rock music from the game Rock band, and still take private lessons when possible. They have several albums and EP’s released, toured internationally, opening for bands such as Halestorm, 3 Days Grace, G&R, played multiple Festivals, headline there own club and small venues tour in the U.S. and they don’t disappoint their fans and go as far as still preforming a show while dreadfully sick with the flu to the point that Ale had to finish the show while sitting on a stool, can’t count the number of shows G&R cancelled because Axle was on his period. So it’s very simple either you like them or the song or you don’t, maybe it’s not your cup of tea, I GET THAT. they don’t need reactors advise, and I can say that after over 60 yrs of listening to Rock music we are witnessing history in the making, of what will truly be one of the best rock bands ever…

    To all asshats and corndogs: So, Dany must have had vocal training because she can hold a note for a long time? What about her much longer note in Dust To Dust? You didn't say anything about vocal training then.

    • @brandonb.5304
      @brandonb.5304 3 роки тому

      It's not only about the length of the note; it's also about the power. Someone could hold a note for 30 seconds but it might be a whisper by the end. Dany's not only holding a note a long time but it's a powerful note that doesn't diminish and also contains several different dynamics--not just a straight note.

      Referring to the live vocals, i think Dany's voice was just as powerful in Dust To Dust as in Choke. As far as the record version of Choke, her voice does seem somewhat enhanced. But i don't think that's a bad thing. It just makes a great singer sound greater.

    I have been of the opinion for years that studio recordings should be, take the time to really mic the room properly, then the band plays live altogether, record it a few times, choose the best take and that's the song. Never was a fan of the overproduced studio recordings with overdubs and such. To me it is just a lie, as the band will never be able to reproduce it during a show, so what's the point. Just my opinion after listening to rock music for 30+ years.

Some people consider albums like Sergeant Pepper super important, I consider it the beginning of the end of simple produced, clean sounding albums. For example the AC/DC albums of the 70s that were produced with their family, where they simply recorded the band like I suggested, to me are the best sounding with their raw energy, but lots of people consider them subpar compared to the later overproduced ones by supposed luminaries like Rick Rubin or Mutt Lange.

    Very brave releasing the cave version so soon after the MV. The studio version really does sound very 'full'. It's great. Dani's voice does sounds out of this world. Really good. Listening to this version you can you definitely hear the difference. Would have been better for just Dani to sing the song though. Ale and Pau's vocal just didnt work well here. She's got a great powerful voice to hold the song together. Management would have been better organising a virtual performance of their album at a later date. Let the MV do the 'talking' initially. Its a very well produced clip marketing the song very well.
    The sisters sound would benefit from having another rythmn guitarist to really fill the sound. They're remarkably talented though. Writing some very good material for their ages. Choke is no different.

  • @ClavisRa

    tl;dr The single is too 'pop', missing the raw 'rock' feel the song calls for. The live performance is trying too hard to be the single version and needs a little reinvention.
    I do think the single is a bit overproduced, but not dramatically. My main complaint of overproduction is the density of doubling and harmonizing and general levels of layering creates too much of a smoothed out sound for a song that should have a ton of bite and ferocity (which it does overall). Aspects of the production are very 'pop', and that also infected the arrangement of the song a bit.
    This live performance felt very true to the single version, and I think the song could be stronger and feel more organic by making some different choices live. For example, Pau's low harmony feels a bit awkward being so low and relaxed; hearing her harmonise with an intensity that matches Dany would feel more satisfying. Dany's guitar part at the start of the second verse similarly feels awkward for her to navigate, again trying to duplicate the texture of the recording and working her pedal board too much when a simple chiming arpeggio without a tone change would let Ale's lively base part there dominate while Dany focuses on her vocals without the awkward pedal board manipulations.

    I mean, of course a studio track (especially a single) is going to be more polished than a live version. Do people not understand that studio albums are engineered to sound as good as possible? Those criticisms are just silly and ridiculous. Rock albums layer in guitars, vocals, etc. It's going to sound more full and polished than a live version where there aren't layered guitars and vocals. People, man.

      The question is what "as good as possible" is? Looking around on YT, reading comments under live session videos shows often "this sounds better than the album" comments for a row of bands. Some of these videos may sometimes have 10 times more views than the original music video. Did the band/producer then deliver "as good as possible" from the studio?

      @@westmus That's an exaggeration. Nirvana's most-watched music video is Smells Like Teen Spirit with over a billion views. Their most-watched live version at Reading only has 40 million views. That's typical of most bands: their music videos garner more views than any live versions subsequently released. The albums aren't supposed to sound like they were recorded live. Their purpose is to hook fans to get them to go see live shows. If you give them the live show straight away, they may not feel like they need to see them live in-person.

      @@brandonb.5304 , exactly, Nirvana had a very good studio production, so did Audioslave, Alice in Chains and other bands. They were all highly produced, but it was before all the newest fancy production trends. It always retained a fell of rawness. Grunge became big because the "metal" had turned polished and overproduced, with musicians in fancy outfits and hair from an shampoo ad. Grunge, Metallica and what else became really popular was like a back to basics wave. The newest studio production trends are in my oppinion not doing anything good for rock. We are again losing the rawness and energy in studio prodution trying to sound big and impressive.

      @@westmus Dude, Nirvana's albums were still engineered, just like The Warning's. They had multiple vocal tracks layered, same with the guitar tracks. Kurt's vocals were nowhere near as raw as they were live. None of their studio albums sounded like a live album. They were all clearly polished in post. I don't know why you're acting like this isn't the case for every band that has an album recorded in a studio. Obviously polished songs are a good jumping off point because as I already pointed out the studio tracks almost all have significantly more views than live performances of those same songs do. If people didn't want studio tracks and only wanted live versions, why do the studio tracks all have millions of more views than the live versions?
