    I always was taught that chaines are done in a small 1st position, while your example shows more of a 5th to 1st transition. Is this dependent on which pedagogy is being followed? I grew up in American ballet style

    This is an amazing channel! Can't believe I've just found it. I started an adult ballet class, and I want to have beautiful turns like everyone else, haha.

    What’s the difference between a soutenu and a chaine?

    • @RPMDance
      @RPMDance  6 років тому +3

      A soutenu turn can be done as a single turn in fifth position on demi pointe or pointe, if they are done consecutively you would come down off of demi pointe or pointe in between each soutane turn. Chaines turns are a series of turns passing through first then fifth positions on demi pointe or pointe WITHOUT coming down in between each turn. I hope this helps.

    Been teaching dance for 30 yrs the whole first fifth thing she said would confuse most students learning this turn I always taught that this turn is done in first position only so I’m not sure what ballet style teaches that way

    I don't understand the 'first, fifth' steps.

    • @RPMDance
      @RPMDance  6 років тому +2

      As you are doing chaines turns (either on demi-pointe or pointe) you actually pass through fifth position, then first position and so on. You won't step out through second position for instance.
