That back window extension was for aerodynamics. They weren’t allowed under the rules to change the original bodywork so they had to put the extension piece on.
They used to have those BMW Right hand drive here in Australia, I'm sure there was a paddock with 14 or more they used to run around there litte dirt circuit ,thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones
My brother has a E30 M3 the previous owner before my brother got it from his deceased brother and stored in a chock shed in Spain for 16 years before my brother bought and imported it to England suprisingly it didn't need much to get it running because it had all it's fluids and petrol drained out prior to being stored. But over the years hes done a bit of modification to it but kept it factory looking he regularly drivers it if it's not raining or snowing

Looking good! I think you'll find that setup a much less troublesome procedure in the future. I've never seen a block that didn't "move" after being through thousands of hot/cold cycles. The Ford 300 CID in-line 6 cylinder can be so bad that there are times when the main bearings need replaced you cannot install a purchased "crank kit". The mains bearing journals in the block will be so far out of line that you cannot get the crankshaft back into the main bearing! This also means the camshaft and head surface are no longer true. BUT if you actually take the time to machine that engine back true, it will last forever due to the block being "set" or cured. I've had customers that couldn't understand that the block couldn't be reassembled without the machining. They would complain that "it ran every day until it started knocking." Or that "it just needed bearings".

You may be wondering what’s this gotta do with anything but bearing in mind Vics beating the works Prodrive Official Works M Team I got to thinking who did Vic use to rebuild his engines and I couldn’t believe who it was . I could buy a euro spec M3 and take it to a guy who’s engine won the BTCC and nobody knows who it was as he doesn’t talk about the BMWs either . Anyway I love the Cosworths but I do like a e30 m3
Did the M3 have a dog leg gear box R 2 4 1 3 5 gear stick order the one I had for six months it had was a left hucker,1800 miles on the clock, it ended up in Saudi Arabia, beautiful colour like a sky blue, black convertible roof and light blue leather interior 👍🏻 gorgeous car.
God thats a beautiful car.... none of those left in rustbelt USA. I saved my st185 celica from a rusty death as there where only 1800 sold from 90-93 as Alltracs(not gt4s) so SUPER rare to have a USA version still wish i had a e30 m3 mam what a car. And the engine swap who cares i HATE how judgy car ppl get. Like the whole idea is customize to enjoy driving how you like it. Doesnt matter if its a ferrari or toyota.
If the Alfa liners are on the skunt are they centred on the crank axis in both the x and y directions? It may have been line bored but it is not unusual for the line bore to to follow the original crank journal bore that may have been bored off. I would have thought that the E30 M3 in-line 4 was lighter than the S50 in line 6 so that the original handling that was known to be particularly nimble is no longer there. I don't doubt that the conversion works but it must no longer be an E30 M3?
BMW were building the M3 for touring car racing, so I'm pretty sure they could have done a 24v head for the e30 BMW 325i instead of making a in-line 4 version of the M1 engine. Most likely they did the calculations on the impact on handling, tyre wear, brake pad wear and everything else you need to take into account for endurance racing.

Fitting an S50 into an M3 is essentially no different than taking a E325 and fitting the M3 suspension and brakes along with any attendant bodywork - does that make the E325 an M3? If BMW had intended to fit a race proven in-line 6 they would have fitted the M1 engine, the conversion shown here shows it was possible. Fitting an S50 to the E30 M3 is in no way sacrilege but it must change the essential character of the original car such that it is questionable whether it should be still regarded as an M3?
I ''ruined'' a genuine E30 320is by having an S50 swap but it was an absolute riot to drive. Must admit I do love the original s14/2.3 four pot but they cost bundles to get decent power out of them. I had Schrick cams, lighter flywheel, Arrow rods etc and made a gnats over 240 brake and revved to 8k safely. Unfortunately ill health meant I had to sell it a couple of years ago but I've just put a deposit on a bare E30 body shell. It's a non sunroof with a full cage so ripe for an M3 replica. Not a purist at all but in my opinion totally wrecked the M3 and devalued it by £00000's via the engine swop, plus the wheels look bloody awful as well, it's a tacky M3 in my personal opinion.
No way you dont realize WE CANT go fully electric our grids in west literally cannot come close 2 handling charging all those batteries. Batteries that make used cars non existant=poor ppl will take 50+yrs to not be using gasoline. Also in USA once a vehicle hits 25+ yrs you can historic lisence it meaning no inspections no smog. So you can drive a 1909 mercedes you'll be able to drive a 1980s cosworth for long long time. Synthetic clean burn fuels ARE coming

there is a factory tool for measuring the liners on the Alfa, it sits on top of the block and holds 2 dial guages one for each side of the liner.

You mean undersize not oversize. Oversize is for where the main tunnels have been enlarged, bigger on the outside rather than smaller on the inside.
