This is what happens when you let a guitarist arrange things, they just put a bunch of guitars everywhere!
For this month's Pixel Mixers contest the theme was MMOs. Serrin and I are not the biggest fan of the genre, so this one was tough to get into and find something we were excited to cover. We stumbled on to a handful of interesting songs from some older games, but it ended up being the Ultima Online soundtrack that we thought was the coolest.
I never had a chance to play Ultima Online when it was new, and from what I've heard from people who did, it was quite the experience. The Trinsic city theme is very cool, has this great stereo interplay. I thought it would be fun to use those pieces to build an intro and introduce each of the pieces one by one. Originally it was going to be all guitars, but it sounded wrong. The original had some harp which I really liked, so I put that back in and gave it some extra parts and I was really liking how it was coming along. At first I didn't even consider asking for a real harpist to play it, but I am so glad I did.
I put out the call and got Harpsibored on board and holy fucking hell that was the best decision. Not only did she deliver some amazing harp recordings, but she took the garbage I wrote and spun it into gold, adding her own ideas which made this track so much radder than what I expected. It's really fun to have harp playing over some good old chuggy guitar riffs. Needs more metal harp.

Absolutely blown away by your rendition of the Trinsic theme! First time I have heard this. I wrote this for Origin Systems using a Roland SC-55. One of several themes I composed for Ultima Online. Thank you for keeping the UO music alive and breathing.

I had never played the game before and stumbled on to the soundtrack on UA-cam. These songs are so wonderful, I listened to Trinsic on repeat for like a week before I decided to cover it.

This is an epic arrangement, you guys really pulled it off in blending the heavy metal with harp! The performance is so clean and I enjoyed the pacing and dynamics of the song, well done!
Cheers, dude! I was a bit intimidated by the original track at first because there was a lot going on, but once I broke it down, I got a really clear idea of how I wanted to arrange it.

Great idea on using the harp. It really meshes well with the guitars. Love how you left space for the harp to shine too. A lot of tasty playing throughout, inject those guitar counter melodies in my veins. Another excellent arrangement!
Cheers, dude. When I first started arranging it, it was all guitars, but that felt messy. The original had some harp so I put that back in and gave them some guitar parts. Harpsibored made them much cooler!

Getting to Trinsic from Britain always made me have a sigh of relief. PKs always at xroads.
@@stupedcraig I think on the first day that I played I ran from Britain to Trinsic and somehow died right within the Trinsic gates. From what I remember there was some kind of fight and I believe I looted a corpse, probably turning me criminal and got killed. That was back in 1998

I was always interested in the idea of UO but never had an opportunity to play it as a kid. The music is so great though. And thanks! I found that image while researching the soundtrack, it's quite nice.

Thanks a lot! It was a lot of work getting my garbage guitar ensemble to play nice with the beautiful harp, but it worked out pretty well in the end!

Actually my initial idea was some very difficult fast arpeggios and just went "nah fuck it, gliss" so it wasn't that bad really haha

not familiar with this one but when it sounds this good who cares? props to your mixing the harp isn't being drowned out at all by the harsher sounding instruments which makes this sound so cool and unique
I wasn't familiar with it when I stumbled onto it, but I really liked how it sounded. I was worried about the harp being drowned out by the metal since I've never mixed harp before, but it was a fun learning experience. Harpsibored is a wonderful harpist, I only wish I did some better guitar to match her harp!

Stones was the other one I was strongly considering before settling on Trinsic. Such a cool song!
