Big Up to everyone who sent in questions about production. I'm working on some bonus episodes right now, trying my best to answer all of the questions you’ve sent! If you have any questions re production or suggestions for specific topics you want me to talk about, just drop a comment right here or DM me on Instagram. -
Thank you for making these! All are awesome. Would be great to have an episode focused at mixdown. E.g. how do you make your tracks clean, punchy and loud at the same time - but going deep into the topic.
What is your mindset about "heavy" compression and loudness in general for such an aggressive genre? Would love to see how you approach those things...
Thanks for taking the time to show some of your projects mate. I'm quiet curious about how do you make your groove in your tracks, particularly the bass in relation to the drums. The midi notes from your bass, do you apply some midi grooves, like from MPC for example, or extract some other grooves from other sources ? Or do you just draw notes manually till you get something that has a good groove ? Also do you design synth bass patches first, then write a riff with it, or do you write a riff then tweak the synth afterwards till you get something you like ? Hope you understand what I mean. Big ups!!
I see Mefjus in the studio, I click. Wish he would go into sound design and his post pluggin programing a little more. Or go more in depth on his send fx, seems like they create 70% of the vibe.
Thank you Mefjus for doing this videos, they are SUPER helpful for understanding more about your workflow and in general dnb workflow! Learnt quite a few tips from this vid alone!
man, break and Mefjus are absouloute beasts at production, be a fan of break since way back, im a bit later in finding mefjus, but he instantly made my top producer lists along with the likes of BSE, prolix, audio, noisia, bad company....one of the greats!
LimiterNo6 making an appearance again. I remember when Hive first mentioned that Clipper trick with it long ago. I like the mix of old an new production on this tune. They all contribute to the vibe in a wonderful way, which is not an easy task to do!
This is the most informative production breakdowns I've seen in a long time, by one of the dnb sound design gods himself. Can't thank you enough for all of this useful knowledge, look forward to the next episode
i got really fed up with DnB in september after years of producing and DJing, hosting a radio show and not really getting where i wanted to. And i haven't really listened to any since then, but this track and Transit i just had to listen to. Very invigorating and inspiring :)
Sup from Russia Martin! Can u pls talk a little about your lowmids - What do u usually fill it with? - How and when do u mix it? - How to avoid that "smile" on frequency spectrum?
Edit > Preferences > Transport > tick Locate when Clicked in Empty Space .. then you won't have to click the top timeline bar to move the locator's start position. You just click anywhere and the cursor will move to it :)
Big ups Mefjus. Really interested in a detailed drum production and mixing tutorial for your upcoming production streams... this was great, but a deep dive on this topic would be amazing! how do you get the best “pop” in the biz ? :)
Dude, bit late to this but man how this helps me. As a cubase user myself, I'd just like to know what sample rate you work at and what spec your PC is. The more serum instances I add affects the performance but I'm working at a high bit rate so was just wondering how you get all those tracks and instances not killing your machine 👍
Help me! I wanna know how to 1: make leads that are interesting and come up with lead melodies on such a high tempo like dnb. 2.warum schreibe ich eig in englisch. 3. wie benutze ich automation und welche effekte für eine interessante belebung des sounds. Freue mich aufn livestream!
I think it helps to reference where the sub and high frequencies should be visually on the frequency analyser, it may still be the same monitor he used in his 2013 masterclass (DigitalLabz)
he probably has them in his sample library and they were just scrolling through what he had and thought they'd give that try. Not just like man you should hear this mad sine wave I've got

Said it before, will say it again, would LOVE a look into your Serum patches, bass specifically.. Great content.

Heard the track earlier and man what a nice tune, good to see you breaking this one down!

Really interesting insight into your productions! What stands out most for me is the *gulp* every few minutes :p
Nice track! Love this series, gives me all sorts of inspiration and technical insight. Big respect! 👌
Same here 😃😍
Would love to see a "Physically" breakdown, a favorite of mine for sure!

So nice! but have you actually ever used that MOOG on the front ?
Big ups Mefjus. Really interested in a detailed drum production and mixing tutorial for your upcoming production streams... this was great, but a deep dive on this topic would be amazing! how do you get the best “pop” in the biz ? :)
Big up legend!
Thanks for the breakdown! 😀 👊
Sweet!
Best advice for making unique womps in the serum?
Sick
after watch this video i want a tutorial about your computer to know how it can handle all this stuff...ahahahha....big up man
yo, these videos are wicked but could you go into the processing on drum layers/busses?
🔥
wicked!!
Do you compress any of your bass layers? Post processing? Thanks for the insight

Break Break if you will :D king

What is the name of the hardware on the desk?
What do you use to process each individual snare layer?
How much do you syncopate your Reece and other bass sounds? Does it start 1/8th into the bar after the kick plays?
Three or four in the studio? Smells like Noisia
CUBASE FTW
Your musical knowledge >
they gave the wookie a medal
Break break!

absolute don
A break break if you will 😂😂👍
Why do you have two pieces of tape on your second monitor?
I think it helps to reference where the sub and high frequencies should be visually on the frequency analyser, it may still be the same monitor he used in his 2013 masterclass (DigitalLabz)
Please break down your track "Together" or at least the bass from that track :)
seriously hoily shit i cannot thank you enough for showing this shit
Wtf is your CPU?
question of the year
He is resampling a lot. For example the reeze bass is all audio files. Not demanding for the cpu at all.
from instagram, "intel i9-9900K 3,6ghz octa + 64gb ram + ssd drives"
yeah as @gonzo said he's resampling most people do

Lip smacking and swallow sound ASMR
mefjus has such a wet mouth lol
please Russian subtitles 😁🙎♂️🙆♂️💪👌👍🙌👀👏
So... he brought samples of Sine waves? What's the point, why bother?
he probably has them in his sample library and they were just scrolling through what he had and thought they'd give that try. Not just like man you should hear this mad sine wave I've got
Also a sine sampled from a virus ti has a different vibe than an 'in the box' sine. Had lots of dirt to it which came up nicely with plugins
