    In the span of 10 seconds, you got more rings on that plastic spike than I ever did throughout my childhood every time I would go to my friend's house. For some reason, this impresses me as a 30 year old adult.

      Google the devs. It's a scam. The last time they tried crowdfunding a sequel, the game didn't live up to the promises, and one of the marketed features of different ring colors was finally released one year later as DLC.

      I assume the statement implies that the OP was young, when you consider that the mother took the toy away. If they were old enough to drink underage, the mother would likely either make them clean it out, as well as any other fluids caused by drunken activities rather than take a toy away.

    It's funny how many variations of this concept there were.... Heck, I remember a really odd one I had when I was a kid....
    So get this, there was a Sonic the Hedgehog shampoo (or was it conditioner? I can't 100% remember) That had one of these things built into the bottle. I kid you not. It's really odd looking back on it.
    I think it also had two buttons instead of just the one like on the actual Waterful Ring Toss.

    • @B34rHands
      @B34rHands 9 років тому +7

      Oh my god, I had the exact same variation!! I remember keeping my bottle of Sonic as a regular in my line-up of bath toys. Kept that thing around for awhile...

    I've got the Pac Man variation of this game Tomy released int he early '80s. Unfortunately it's completely useless now as the rubber cork to keep the water in has dried out and rotted. It crumbled apart when I tried to get it out :(

    • @ExeDist
      @ExeDist 9 років тому +4

      Larry, source a new bung or cork from somewhere....otherwise there is you could fabricate something out of resin and a custom mold, but knowing you, you never could be arsed to do the latter. The one I had, had one of those water pistol style corks in it, I expect it is still in the land of the living, even though it is probably at the bottom of some stinking landfill!

      They must have acquired the Pac Man license later on, because that game already existed in the original 1976 line. It must have just looked so much like Pac Man or people referred to it as Pac Man, that following the popularity of the game it seemed like the right move.

    I was born the year these came out. Several years back, I'd get the fuzzy memory of owning at least 2 of these at different times. I believe the first was probably in the early '80's and maybe toward the mid-80's with the second. They didn't stick around for long and I don't remember why. I was able to find one doing a Google search. And I just bought one for the sake of nostalgia and for showing to the other children in my family. Your review is spot-on. For some reason, I thought they'd be a little smaller than I remembered them. But that's because I was making an adjustment for being a tiny child with tiny hands the last time I held one. They're actually a pretty good-sized toy and I should give my memory a little more credit. LOL
    When I ordered the Waterful, I also ordered a bag of 36 of those colorful plastic bird water whistles after they popped into my head. I also have a vague memory of owning one of those for a brief period of time when I was between 6 and 8. For $6 total, I thought I'd keep one for myself and give the rest to the young ones in the family. But it seems that half of them don't work. LOL I believe there are burrs and other imperfections around the fipples that I may try to fix with a box cutter.
    I went on another nostalgic binge a couple years back and bought a couple of electronic pinball machines, as well as the Entex Baseball 3 handheld game, as well as the Mattel Basketball and Football 2 handheld games, all of which we once owned. It's amazing how we change as we get older. Of course, these are all bought for historical purposes and will be mostly preserved instead of being played vigorously until broken. But in many ways, it seems that most of us do tend to revert back to our own childhoods in some ways. I mean...I would not have been caught dead buying these back when I was 20. LOL

    Holy crap. I forgot these things existed. Your reaction you described at the beginning of this video is exactly what this video did to me. Wow. I can't remember what one I had, but I definitely had at least one or two of these things. I think I had a really small one, and then also a big one similar to yours in the video.

    I had one of those too! wow. The lost cap thing is what really jogged my memory. Maximum nostalgia! This also reminded me of a head-to-head early 80's water board (water board, not waterboard) game we (brother and I) got for Christmas one year. It was called *Quicksilver* (or some odd spelling that sounded that). have you ever seen one of those? The enclosed in clear plastic relatively horizontal "board" was angled up to a ridge in the middle with some obstacle, and the entire thing inside was covered in some type of water resistant material (wax, or something.. doubt it was hydrophobic ). Each player had a water gun you could aim, and the goal was the drown the other side (once the water got so high, the gun stopped working iirc). The water looked like mercury on the board.

    LGR, you can make a video about anything, and it's BJ guaranteed, I never commented on your videos, but I've been watching you for years, and I gotta say you da classiest and swaggest reviewin dawg. For fucksake this thang? Yet, it's still a class-say video and still a video you drink your red-wine, or black coffee to while receiving a BJ. All thanks to your invincible charisma.

    Why does this video specify it doesn't have any mature content?

    • @LGR
      @LGR  7 років тому +17

      That's a leftover from UA-cam's old "shows" system, where they had uploaders provide US TV-standard content ratings for each video added to a show page. It is long since obsolete.

    • @9a8szmf79g9

      Not to be a douche or anything, but that got me thinking hmm... "Partner rating: No mature content" _must_ be implying there is only immature content. J/K. ^_^' Cool video, and game/toy though.

    I had a couple of these things as a kid, if I remember correctly they made several different types of these with different pieces and catching mechanisms (I remember one of them having something like fish in it, and instead of ring poles it had a little plastic "basket" thing). Oh, I just got to the part where you mentioned that.
    For me, these things are so much more than what face value suggests. As simplistic as they are, I remember as a kid getting absurd amounts of enjoyment out of them. It's brilliant that these things were refillable, so if any water leaked out it was easily remedied (something tells me that a 2017 version of this would be completely sealed in a way that would render it useless if that seal was broken). The feel of the button was almost magical, and in about 2 seconds you realize that you can control the height, speed, and chaos of the pieces inside. Sometimes I'd give it gentle presses, hoping to catch my pieces and other times I'd just mash that button as hard as I could, repeatedly, just to see the chaos ensue. These things, as aggravating as they can be, had a weird calming effect on me, the subtle motions of the water and the pieces inside had a way of just transfixing my brain. It's almost like a stress reliever, just gently pushing the button and watching the pieces gently float around. I did that a lot when I had them.
    It's funny to hear you talk about seeing it in the thrift store. That was basically my reaction when I saw the thumbnail to this video. "Oh yeah! Those things were awesome!" I had long forgotten them, but instantly remembered at the sight of it.

    Holy cow Clint. I had that model and also a variant that resembled a Tic Tac Toe board. I don't remember as growing up in a low income family, I just knew that as a lil kid that I thought these toys were great fun and would help pass the time on long car rides. Until I got my first hand held electronic football game. Thanks for the video and the fond memory's.
