    I got a perm a couple weeks ago and would never go back to straight hair! Very solid advice... And I agree perms look different on everyone. My hair is thick and looks exactly like yours

    I've had pin straight thick hair my whole life and I'm finally getting a perm tomorrow morning. I feel like everytime I tell someone about it they seem super hesitant and nervous for me but I AM PUMPED. Here's hoping it turns out well :P

    I actually met 3 people who got perms and their hair never went straight again haha. it naturally grows curly now.
    I have very baby fine hair, my hair never took to curling via heat. it always went away after 5 minutes. but it took to the chemical curl~

      Kiley-Yuuki Allen when I was 10 I got a perm and I use to have super straight hair. After the perm grew out my hair is a combo of wavy and straight, but maybe it is because I got older? I'm 21. I'm thinking of perming my hair so it is either curly or at least wavy from now on.

      Kiley-Yuuki Allen the perm chemically changes your hair's dna so it's not surprising that their hair grew back curly

    • @oliviaz5545
      @oliviaz5545 6 років тому +2

      Sarah Marie perms don’t change the dna lol. it changes the proteins in the hair strand, not the follicle. so yes the hair will grow back to it’s natural state. in this persons case it seems that puberty has changed her hair from super straight to wavy

    i have fine straight hair and i permed my hair back in middle school as well..my perm lasted 3years..i think it depends on how you care for your hair and what you put in it.

    I got a perm and my hair is fine and naturally pretty straight and I had to get it repermed but I found out my hair doesnt hold it very well. Its just how some peoples hair is and most of the time all a perm will do for straight or fine hair is that it will add body and make it more voluminous

  • @Liolia22

    Thank you for sharing about your perm experience, Sarah! Just found your channel. I've been perming my hair since 8th grade (I'm 28, so it's a way of life now, haha) so it's great to see videos about our hair type. I perm about twice a year, only perming the roots as they grow out, and the whole head to refresh once every 2 years or so to minimize damage.
    One important note I would make, related also to your video on your hair care routine, is that keratin, an ingredient found in your shampoo and conditioner in that vid, will loosen the perm. It counteracts the protein used to change the chemical structure of your hair during the perming process, and is great for those wanting to preserve their chemically straightened hair. But not so great if you want to preserve your curls. I would consider changing your shampoo, if you still use that Tresemme one. And I think we have to stick to softening ingredients like argan oil or other natural oils for our type of hair.
    In addition, I started with fine, straight hair, and while I do have a much curlier, bouncier style than yours (so I do lose some length, for sure), my hair did take the curl. But again, my perm was done by a professional, the hair didn't take larger curls at first, but it's still possible to get a perm with fine hair. No one believes mine is fake, so there's hope for us fine-haired girls! :)
    Let me know your thoughts!

    my first perm lasted 6 months and i have thin, long hair that is naturally loosely curled and my hair doesn't like to be curled by heat so I don't entirely agree with you on that but great video

    An individual strand of coarse hair has a thicker cortex--which is why it can hold a perm better than an individual strand of fine silky hair.

    my hair is really fine I got a perm and it took really well not stringy very curly and it lasted for a year..and the relaxing stage was my favorite because I got to have beach waves..but It did for sure alter the texture and the shine was not there anymore once it grew out...there are pros and cons.. but I agree with you every perm looks different on everyone my second one was not nearly as curly as my first.

    Guys, prices for perms can start at as low as 30$, depending on hair length and obviously thickness. My hair is naturally wavy, and is about an inch and a half past my collar bones. Average thickness. I'm getting a perm done soon, so if you'd like to know how much it costs for my length/type of hair etc i'll leave another comment saying what it was for me after i have it done.

    I'm getting a perm this evening so I hope this reaches you in time, but I wanted to make sure, during the first 48 hours after the perm is it ok to wear a satin bonnet or scarf at night? Or is that too restrictive for the hair while it's still forming? Should I stick with just the satin pillow in the first 48?

    ok lol sorry but you said that you shouldn’t waste your money if you have fine hair... do you know what a perm does? it breaks down the molecules in the strand and reforms it to hold a curl. so yes it will hold for quite some time. it’s very different than curling your hair with a curling iron. perms are MUCH stronger. so yes it may loosen but the chances of it going back completely straight are low.

Can I use a acid perm with the Air Neutralizer method or does it have to be a alkaline perm? what is this girl talking about ?? there is a lot of stuff she is saying that makes me think the perm chemicals seeped through her head into her brain. it is so rare that a perm becomes actually permanent. You will be lucky if your perm lasts longer than 6-8 months. if your perm doesn't hold just try again and again. you can train your hair to hold curls. and some perm products work better than others depending on your hair type. so if you want to try a perm out, go ahead!! its not that big of a deal! lol this girl makes it seem like a life long decision. the only time you should seriously think about maybe not getting a perm is if you have SUPER thin hair and/or have been torturing your hair with bleach and Walmart quality hair dyes. but otherwise there's generally nothing that should really hold you back from perming your hair. idk why this girl acts like you're taking out a $50,000 loan from the bank, or something super serious. lol

    • @atsilawaya
      @atsilawaya 7 років тому +15

      Rose Blossom Nothing you've mentioned is actually 100% true...
      firstly some hair types can keep the perm for a much longer time than a few months (minus the new growth at the root).
      Secondly her hair length makes anything she wants done in a hair salon double or even triple in price.
      Perms also have very damaging chemicals in them which of course is what enables the actual hair follicle in being permanently altered by destroying the hairs natural bonds and reshaping them via rods, straws or rollers... if a perm does not last on the hair done, the stylist did not do it correctly OR the client did not follow instructions during the first month of their permanent hair treatment.
      I feel bad for the 22+ people that actually agreed with your little fact based rude opinion....

    Can you straight your hair when you have a perm?

    • @monicamason9625
      @monicamason9625 8 років тому

      You could...as a way of styling it. I would definitely wait at least a week after perming it so your hair can retain its perm memory. Some believe that straightening it will ruin its kink. But I have used a heated straightening brush occasionally. I found no problem with it BUT I only did it a few times. My hair is very fine, and straight naturally.
      I have 'personally' decided SINCE, not to straighten my perm with heat. I based this decision on the fear of damage over time because I BOTH Perm and Color my hair, and am older. Some believe you should never use shampoo, or a comb! I usually just wash with curly shea shampoo, and finger-comb a leave-in conditioner thru...let air dry.
      When I want a straighter or smoother look...I section, comb setting, or conditioning creme in; and set it overnight or till dry...with Large roller for straight with body...or FlexiRods or Hotstix for a more smooth and spiral look! Trust your own opinion after you have done your research. You know your hair best.
      As with all things...Be safe, and Have Fun!

    Im gonna sound like a bitch but don't give advice on perms it pu don't know.
    If you have fine hair or processed hair an acid loose natural perm will work. If you course virgin hair an alkaline perm will work. Perm before color perms have peroxide which do l lighten hair. If you have highlighted hair do have a stylist direct you or do it. You have a bigger chance of burning the damaged hair off and worsening the existing damage from heat and or color.

    Sorry, but that looks like a wavy rat's nest. A spiral perm should be sleek, curled all the way down the shaft. Narcissism. Wow

      @@leah2308 lol.....Considering you don't know me, and are very defensive, I'd say I got the mail on the head. My minor, in college was Abnormal/Criminal Psychology. I'd say your statement is an indication of yourself. How utterly sad. Now, go take your medications, get some self respect, stop trapping guys & living in mommy's basement. Trolling should be beneath a decent human being. Honesty, obviously offends lnbred individuals.
