The videos from Norman and the entire team are the ones i enjoy the most. They are so good i can use them for people who never heard of lean and the easily understand the bottom line. I really appreciate your effort to show us everything
Thank you for the comment. We have learned just about everything about implementing a lean culture from other companies that were gracious and generous enough to share their journey openly. This channel aims to share what we have learned so other companies can experience the same transformational benefits.
I found your channel earlier today and have now binge watched most of your videos 😊. As a factory manager in Shenzhen it is very inspiring to see a fellow Chinese SME that have done LEAN implementation. I will definitely use you as a good example for us to try to follow and I think it will be easier for my Chinese colleagues to get inspired when they see that it is not just overseas factories that can do this
Hi Thomas, thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so glad you found the channel; it means a lot coming from someone with your experience. Since we are not far from each other, you should visit our plant when you have time. We’d be glad to give you or some of your key leaders a tour and show you how we have tried to build a continuous improvement culture. I’ll reach out on LinkedIn to see if we can plan something.
Wow so much content of good lean practice! I must have picked up like 12+ improvements. The reinforcement is awesome! Thank you for making and sharing!
I think my favourite improvement was the last... the measurements. But it did seem like a waste of time to write them down then key them in somewhere. Nevertheless... amazing stuff Norm. You're videos are always so fantastic. Thank you for the effort you and your team put in. They are inspirational!
Thanks for the feedback, Ryan. I agree with you. Writing data and then integrating it into a system is a terrible waste. We’ve simplified that last process, but there is still room to take it further. We’re experimenting with a promising version that works on our phones, but there are still bugs to work out before we make the switch. It’s a great reminder that improvements keep stacking, one on the other!
Great question. Our working day is from 8 AM to 5 PM, and then optional overtime from 6 PM until 8 PM if we are busy. When we first opened the factory, about 90% of our staff lived in our dormitories, so we would provide breakfast at 7 AM for them, then lunch at noon, and dinner at 5 PM. There is no production for an hour at lunch and dinner time. Over the years, the number of staff living in the dorm has dropped to just 40%, but we’ve maintained the meal plan because it makes life easier for our staff. It’s a strange phenomenon, but some staff will have dinner at the factory and then go home to make meals for their spouse or kids. When we discovered this, we started the take-out option since producing slightly larger portions for our kitchen staff takes minimal effort, but it simplifies things for those who no longer need to cook at home.
Thank you for the kind feedback. You are most welcome to visit if you are ever in Southern China. We are two hours from the Hong Kong Airport, about 30 minutes outside Shenzhen.
Thank you for the kind words. We focused on lean education and empowering our employees to drive continuous improvement. While it's tempting to outsource to consultants, we've seen tremendous results through persistence and support from fellow lean practitioners.
Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing! I can picture Paul in tears!
Thank you! We owe so much of our lean journey to the inspiration of Paul Akers-his passion and teachings have truly transformed our business.
Tape measure one was excellent, as well as the yellow paint on the cart for hot parts. Congratulations! Kudos from Brazil
Thank you so much for the kind words and support-glad you enjoyed the improvements! Sending our best from China to Brazil!
Fantastic tour..well maintained 5S on the floor...love the small improvement done by the team. it shows lean is part of culture....
Thank you for the kind words! It has been a lot of work and investment of time, but it is also gratifying. Now, we are striving to improve further.

This is one of the 2 Second Lean tours that inspired me the most! Well done, Norm!
Thank you @pedrovazsousa, that means a lot.

This is really impressive, Norm. The net lifter is incredible. Fantastic work!

Out of this world! Congratulations from Brazil!
I really appreciate the feedback. Thank you!
Norm is a true gentleman and class act!!
Thanks for the kind note, Dave. It helps to have business role models like you!!
Wow, an undiscovered gem of a video.
Thanks so much for the feedback.

Question: if breakfast, lunch and dinner are had by all, what hours do people work?

@@normohara Interesting, thanks Norm!
@@normoharathat is so employees-centric, honestly wanting their lives to improve, very nicely done
Wow really impressive and would love to take you up on your offer for a tour one day

Good point. That's the idea from Toyota's TPS
This is so impressive. Most Fortune 500 pays millions of dollars and yet very few manage to make the return from what they paid to LEAN consultants.
Thank you for the kind words. We focused on lean education and empowering our employees to drive continuous improvement. While it's tempting to outsource to consultants, we've seen tremendous results through persistence and support from fellow lean practitioners.
Those toilets need improving
Thanks for watching. I'm curious about your comment, what specifically did you think we could improve in the washrooms?
@@normohara I see nothing wrong there, I'm quite sure the comment is directed towards the squat toilet, which is common in certain parts of China.
@@anexoworkshop You’re absolutely right-squat toilets are common in most parts of China and are often preferred by our staff.
