Lampard doing what he was "best" at, clogging a fast winger. In those days, Cheidozie was the O's major attacking force, he was so quick. One on one Lampard had no chance without those blatant fouls.

I hadn't seen the video of this game until today, 43+ years later,, but I echo many of the earlier comments. I actually couldn't remember the score but I have always carried the memory of the treatment Frank senior dished out to Chiedozie, and remember being a bit ashamed to be a Hammers fan that day.
I know that sort of thing was commonplace in the game then (it is shocking to watch the Chelsea Leeds Cup Final replay of the early 70's) but I'd never seen naked thuggery from a West Ham player before. I'd been brought up on Bobby Moore after all. Watching these highlights there seemed to be a bit of bad feeling all round for some reason.
I think I'm happier with today's play-acting than that kind of attempted GBH. Thank goodness for the evolution of the game, and for TV coverage, for not letting such foul play go unnoticed.

The Hammers had been stuffed 3-0 at QPR just the day before. 2 games in 2 days, the pampered lot nowadays couldn't cope with that schedule

I was at this game with my father in the upper tier of the West Stand. I still remember the series of horrific fouls by Frank Lampard, and the way they were cheered by the home fans.

That was a good oldschool kit Orient had. Same red and white colours but distinctive combo. Better to standout than be yet anther red top white shorts kit club.

I watched this match from the North Bank. Lampard was certainly hard on Chiedozie, but I remember Chiedozie goading him on a few occasions. He probably got what he deserved.

Frank would have been shown a Red in today's game. Nailed Chiedozie at every opportunity even after his was booked and subbed before he got sent off. Unlike the 'West Ham way' they put it about in this game.

Frank Lampard was the difference in these local derbies in the late 70's early 80. He spent these matches running up and down the wing chasing John Chiedozie and when he caught up with him all he did was kick him and try to take him out the game. When ever he managed it. West Ham won.

An F.A. cup reunion for the hammers as two heroes from their 1975 FA cup win (T.Taylor and Mervyn Day) line up against the 1980 cup winning side.

How irony to see Orient relegated out from the old Second Division and never returned.

I'd like modern referees to watch this game to see how footballers do not need the mollycoddling they get from officials these days. A lot of robust (often illegal) tackling on both sides, in West Ham's case the day after another league match. Not a single player screamed, rolled over and over clutching his head, got lengthy fake treatment from physios or doctors, or ran after the referee moaning and complaining. No coaches on the side lines waving their arms around or bullying third officials. Yet not one actual injury, aside no doubt from a few cuts and bruises. It was a man's game then, more consistently exciting than the powder puff stuff played by modern overhyped millionaire players.

Weird that I don't remember Nicky Morgan at all. I lived near Pompey too.

I remember him well. He scored against Charlton in a 4-1 victory on the Monday evening before we beat Arsenal in the cup final.

It's not a contest, the point is nowadays pre-madonna's couldn't deal with a 2 games in 2 days schedule without having a cry about it and demanding a £100K pay rise.
