Dovii Wolf Cichlid with Tank Mates?

- I got lots of messages about keeping dovii with other fish as tank mates. Let’s talk about this a bit while checking out the progress of the pond build. I’ve been wanting a Dovii for years and finally got an adult wolf Cichlid.

In my personal experience I had a female Wolf Cichlid once and I had her with my other Cichlids that I had at the time and they got along pretty well with my Convict cichlids, Jaguar Cichlids, Black Belt Cichlid, Blood Parrot Cichlid, a few types of Mbuna Cichlid, Jack Dempsey Cichlid and a couple of Oscar Cichlids
He’s gonna be not too bad living with a couple of house bricks like those two 😂
Soo i bought a house and went Down to just 1 tank. I've had my flowerhorn solo in a 75 for 3.5 years, he is beast. Being my favorite fish i was goin to keep him solo. But I ended up not being able to get rid of a flowerhorn I've raised since a fry a tire track eel and a big catfish of some sort. Put them all together and literally no aggression for a month plus. Will see how it ends up.
Its all about tank size and if you have super big rowdy cichlids to stand up to them.

The large tank you have them in also helps with aggression. As long as they have their own corners they should be ok for a little bit anyways

Dovi are truly predator fish k-9s, size, strength and intelligence makes them the toughest cichlids on the planet
Markie Mark, got it bang on they're on a different level, best kept solo, or a pair in a massive tank, I learned years ago not to try mix them it wasn't fair on the other fish, they jst can't compete will a super intelligent over aggressive antisocial alpha cichlid like the Dovii different level man
@@raymondg7866 black piranhas can be kept with them Dovii recognizes other gods the black Piranha won't stand for any bulls*it from the Dovii
@@GlasgowBandit i know wht your saying, its a gamble, depending entirely on individuals personalty some more layed back than others, could work in massive tank, never know till try long term, I've mixed different fish most would say wouldn't work too,i have a back up plan and experiment, what works for one might not work for someone else, good luck 👍
far from beeing the thoughest or largest. If you want Monster size cichlids you need to go Cichla and if you want to go to the Max it will be cichla temesis.
I had them and had to donate them to a friend after they outgrowed a 500G tank.
At the other hand i had Dovii in an central community with huge Viejas.
The key is to add the dovii as the smallest fish to an adult group.
Anything that gets intoduced later got toastet
only thing i can find about the dovii is that you need to keep it with other large aggressive predator fish but you need a big tank.

my Dovii bit my 8 inch Texas tail completely off. like floating in the water. Dovii are also the smartest fish out there. He will kill them when he feels its necessary.
I keep a Dovii with a shoal of piranhas he stays at one end of the tank in the corner but I do fear the day will come where the piranhas just Rip him apart I'm going to try get his own tank set up for him

I have a big boy dovii thats pushing 2 feet that Im afraid to put with anything I also have one thats about 14” that Im going to try to put in with a red devil, a couple of black umbees and a couple of festae debating whether or not to put my big male motag in there too but will probably leave him out

Well, you have a dovii with tank mates.... for now. I hope you have a back up plan. I promise, you're going to need it. You're slso going to need a much bigger thank than a 210gal. Start at 300gal & then plan to upgrade.

Just a quick thing. Isn’t a 210 too small for a big male dovii? I’m not an expert but Mel in Aquarium coops video said a 240 wasn’t big enough. Again I have no clue, was just asking the question

Palmer Aquatics is a trusted source in my house..just wanted to piggy back on what you made very clear to me sometime ago you explained about a mature Dovii going full psycho at some point with attempted community tanks...lol its true...my Dovii is wild-caught ..if you add him to a tank or pond with other big fish...he will study all for a while ...then he will start the testing of other fish....if he is alone ...in his own tank or pond he will either kill or damage the other fish for sport...have no doubt the Dovii will snap and go into kill mode ...size of tank or pond plays a part and the fighting skills of the other fish as well...if the Dovii makes it a clear territory issue...because of food source or maybe another dovii Male or female...you will see it get triggered and ultimately green light a kill...Your Dovii looks alot better bro...he has his power glide swim back and he looks like he's coloring up from what I was able to see...but I will say this bro I pay attention to your wealth of knowledge and your advise on the fish we have in common...through out this hobby..Great vid..stay safe.. can't wait to see him in 210g

The only thing I'd keep with a dovii is one of those huge heavily armored plecos from Predatory fins, and even that is a gamble considering how smart and vicious a Dovii can be.

You can keep a shoal of piranhas or a Black piranha with them obviously the inevitable might happen in the end but the Dovii should be ok

@@gqwarrior6694 I'm talking from experience I've kept a Dovii with red belly piranhas and it got eaten so what are you on about? Yes maybe a Loan piranha it will kill and a black Piranha it will be fine with
@@GlasgowBandit Ok bud. What you had is the exception to the rule. If you've got any decent amount of experience with dovii, you'd know that. I've only kept 47 dovii & raised a few thousand in my 35 years keeping them though, so I'm sure your experience with one fish far outweighs mine
@@gqwarrior6694 I've got 15 years of predator fish keeping so I know my stuff I've kept , Black piranha , Caribe , Red belly , Arowana , Dovii , Wolf fish , Red Devil etc I know how intelligent and bullying a Dovii is all I'm saying is it's different putting it in a tank with one piranha than a shoal of 6 or more it's only a matter of time before the Piranhas kill it what happens usually is the Dovii corners the piranhas in a fight for domination then the Piranha attacks taking a large chunk out of the Dovii which results in the Dovii being stressed bleeding and then you know how it goes from there

@Niels Gambino That's not true what about The Black Piranha it's solidarity fish and it's the most aggressive piranha with the most powerful bite of any fish
