Thanks for sharing your thoughts on journaling. It's interesting how we each struggle with or enjoy different things. For me, the "logging" style of journaling got boring very quickly because it was so repetitious - my days are often very similar in terms of activities. But I also understand how it can be depressing just to write a lot of negative feelings as journal entries, and this is why it took me years to find a journaling style that I enjoy and want to do consistently. The key for me is flexibility. I use a dated notebook with one page per day, and that page can have any kind of content: a reflection on something I'm going through or trying to figure out; a record of an event with photos or souvenirs like ticket stubs or receipts; reflections on books I've read, music listened to, films watched, etc; wishlist ideas and reviews of items I purchased; a draft of a poem; a drawing or painting; quotes from conversations, books, or songs; a list (like a bullet journal collection); project plans; research into a topic; ideas for a vacation... anything. Then I use the index pages in the front of the notebook so I can find information I want to refer back to. It's an interesting way to have a snapshot of what was going on in my life and my mind for any given period. It's not complete but it gives some general overview. I don't consider this style a commonplace book because, as I understand it, commonplace is organized by topic. So if I were going to have a commonplace book for reading, for example, I might organize it by author or by genre, and then write down books I'd read, quotes from those books, and personal reflections on the reading. Of course there's no "wrong way". I also enjoy seeing how people use their notebooks and what kinds of journaling activities they enjoy; thank you for sharing yours.
Only five minutes into the video and I’m already in love with your hobo weeks!! I was sad to find out this was your first video so I can’t go binge your backlog hahaha the way you use and decorate your pages resonates so much with me
Anything you like to share about the Weeks I will find fascinating! I am classically a big fan of it, and use multiple each year, but I am kind of in a planning/stationery “slump” you could say. Your Weeks for 2024 is beautiful and very well-used, especially the free pages at the back, it was a pleasure to see, and I would love to see more. ☺️📚✍🏼❤ I also like “unusual” covers, and almost chose that one you have, so it was also a pleasure to “see it again” and someone else living happily with it. I was surprised to hear and “see” someone reading May Sarton-our book club read her a few years ago-and quite possibly the “House…” book you mentioned, I’m a bit abashed to say that I’m not certain in my recollection… I had not heard of her prior to that. I think she’s a female author who time has (or had) somewhat forgot; so I was impressed by your self-identified strong interest in reading [and even more so when you later mentioned your own dislike of personally journaling in an in-depth/at-length (in each individual entry, at least) way-which I also share.] I think we are alike and different in enough ways that I will particularly enjoy your videos. Thank you for making that time and overcoming inertia to make this one/start your channel!
One of my goals this year was to turn my weeks into a yearbook that reflects everything I did, liked, disliked, and experienced, so I really made an effort to use the back pages-and now I love them! ✨ I also love reading journals, so I eventually came across a list featuring May Sarton. I enjoy reading other people’s reflections on daily life; they're fantastic!
Beautifully done! I’ll use the Weeks for my personal life log and plans for 2025. I need to come back for a deep dive into your video for motivation and inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing!
I love your creative style. I'd love to see your Traveler Notebook inserts. Just even the collection of all the covers of them in chronological order would be cool! Also how you use it.
Yay great first video!! It takes a lot of courage to take the step of uploading. Excited to see how you go on this journey! and remember, this is YOUR page, it is about YOU! there are no rules that say how you have to navigate this space and no one is going to get angry at you for taking your time to find your place. Good Luck!
Thank you so much for your kind words. I always wanted to create videos and show my notebooks, but like you said, it takes a lot of courage. Especially because our notebooks are places where we are vulnerable, hype ourselves up, or just vent, so I always felt a bit overwhelmed by the idea of showing them. But I have such a great time watching others that I said to myself, why not? And I’m so glad I did-it’s such a great community.
@@adrislogs That's a great mindset! I'm trying to get myself to a point where I can share this part of myself too but it feels so vulnerable I keep doubting myself. I will say that you're right about the kindness of this community, everyone seems to understand that we're putting a precious part of ourselves on show and everyone tends to be very kind about that. I'm sure I'll take that leap eventually, even if it is just one time! Also, I'm watching your current video rn. When I subscribed yesterday you had 16 subs and now you have 133!!!! Congrats that's wonderful!!
Very cool! I use hobonichi weeks as a personal log/archive… something about small size and free weekly space in right just works. I really like it! Thanks for sharing your pages and such lovely penmanship! ❤ what a great first video, would have thought you are a pro and always make videos!
I absolutely love your style! I am currently in a Hobonichi A6 Original and that has been a great amount of space to recap my day. Although I am considering going up to a B6 daily for more room. You don't have to journal for hours or journal about your feelings if you don't want to! It can be 10-15 minutes a day to capture what you want :). Excited to see what's next!
I had the same issue with focusing too hard on the negative but I came to hear about commonplacing and from there kind of threw in some thoughts and feelings about certain things like media, songs, artists, theories, etc all focused around things I *enjoy* thinking about. I found that helped me enjoy journaling again was just giving myself a space to essentially express my joy and be happy and it drew me back to writing very quickly.
So true! I think this is exactly what I want to encapsulate. I love journaling, but sometimes it can be taxing to focus only on your feelings. Exploring the things you like also shapes your year and your experiences, so moving forward, I want to focus on that.
Loved this so much! I have always had a Weeks, but this year was the first time it just really clicked for me. I love it and cannot wait for 2025 with it. Book journaling and suggestions are always a plus, would love to see how you document that. I also LOVE your rings!! LOVE THEM!
Thank you so so much for your sweet comment! I am so happy you noticed my rings✨ I love collecting chunky rings from different places. So true! I think when the weeks finally clicks for you there’s no going back 😂
Amazing first video! Your weeks pages are lovely and I love how you write your headers on the pages. I would love to see your weeks collection and journals! Thank you for sharing 😊
Microjournaling. I like journaling but I enjoy decorating and water coloring way more. I *could* wrote about my feelings but I feel like ranting doesn't do much for me and I'd much rather spend my time creating art. So I check in with my journal daily to answer 3 prompts, which can be personalized to suit your style. I like to write 3 sentences about 1. How I'm feeling, 2. What I need today, and 3. What would make this day even greater or what I want right now. I do this because I find my needs and wants often go unseen, even by me, so this gives me comfort and peace. And then I move on to decorating if I have time.
Thank you for making this video! It was absolutely lovely to hear about your journaling thoughts, processes, and struggles. The portion of the video where you talked about wanting to find a community really resonated with me-I am also wishing for the same thing. I would love to see a flip-through of your Hobonichi Weeks and am super interested in how you've come to use it as a journal. I don't care for long-form journaling either, and always end up with empty pages in my books at the end of the year because some days I just run out of steam and don't have the energy to fill them. BUT the Hobonichi Weeks seems like the perfect solution and your pages are SO BEAUTIFUL! Thank you again and looking forward to your future videos!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Long-form journaling really doesn’t work for me; sometimes it feels like a chore, and I don’t have the energy for it. But like you said, the Weeks is such a lovely size to keep in check with yourself without overwhelming you. Comments like this make me so happy-truly a great community ✨
your pages look soso pretty adri! i'd love to see more about your weeks, as well as what you decide for 2025 :D loved the video and can't wait to see more content from you
I loved your first video and I definitely would wait for future ones from you!. For me I like having my stationery supplies on my desk or my desk's drawer so it becomes easy for me to reach for them whenever I want. I like having them close to me as well because they bring me joy. I also like to watch short journaling videos when I am having a journaling session and just like you I like writing short sentences about my days. I also like using my vertical Traveler's Notebook for memory keeping in which I write what I'm doing, watching, eating, or reading just special or mundane moments, and decorate it throughout the week, but I will do a little decoration every Sunday and keep adding more throughout the week ephemera related to that week maybe an order I've received or a picture of something I enjoyed or of someone I love. Plus, a passport insert for special occasions and sometimes for mundane moments, as well because I like decorating, so that's another way for me to decorate . Usually 15 minutes or 30 minutes is enough for me, but I also like to take breaks and have multiple sometimes more journaling sessions depending on the time and day. I usually keep the negative thoughts on a digital file on Google drive, because journaling for me is something positive and I rarely do write something negative in my journals which makes it a bit easy for me to show my pages to my family or friends. I hope this essay has helped lol
Loved this essay 😂 It’s so interesting how you journal about your negative feelings. These days, I usually write my negative thoughts on a piece of paper, let everything go, and when I’m done, I rip it up and throw it away. It’s somehow cathartic. I totally feel you-I also like small journaling sessions. These days, it has become harder for me because at work, my desk is so close to my coworkers that I don’t feel comfortable taking my journal out, but it’s what works best for me too. Thank you so much for your message. I love having a window into other people’s journaling habits.
It’s so nice to see you here! I enjoyed seeing your journals and it’s so fun to see where my artwork ends up. :) I also do not journal a lot about my feelings, but more about what I’m thinking about. 😊
Oh, Erin, I love all your art. Every time I feel overwhelmed at work, I put your videos on in the background, and every time I catch a glimpse, I feel immediately better. Your journals are so wonderful ✨
YAY to your first video-! It was lovely listening to you talk about your journals. I loved looking at your pages and I'm curious to see how your commonplacing journal progress (I am new to commonplacing and still trying to figure out my system). I'm excited to see more content from you and how you'll grow on this platform ♡♡♡
Thank you so much! I am also curious to see how it progresses 😂 Common journaling is something I am still getting used to, so it will be exciting to see how my style evolves✨
Such a lovely video! Your pages are so pretty 🤩 I’m also a huge fan of Erin’s printables. This month, I started testing out the Weeks for daily logging and journaling and so far it’s going well. Would love to see a full flip of your Weeks, if you feel comfortable sharing.
OMG, I love your videos! I loved last year’s Weeks decorating video before that flight company that shall not be named lost your journals. It was a huge inspiration for my own Weeks process.💕
I’m the same in terms of journaling- much more of a short term “logging” sort of journaler. I use the Hobonichi A6 5-Year techo. Its a small enough space each day per year, and then theres a blank grid page if you want to write more. I am currently in year 3 and have absolutely loved it.
I loved your first video! I am from Spain too (Seville) and I have been watching a lot of people using hobonichi, I love the cousin and want to get my first one for 2025, but I don’t know if I will be able to afford it before January!😂 If not I am planning to continue with a less complete journal and use a blank notebook for daily entries. I would love to see a flipthrough your journals and I think it will be nice for you to do it also. I have a friend that is transcribing her journal entries from an app to a phisical journal and she is loving it so I think you could get a similar experience. Something that she told me that was interesting was that when she was reading more negative entries, she did not remember those days well, but when she reached more positive ones she remembered all of it! I think it is better to get a journaling habit to be able to track both negative and positive entries, so you can get perspective on your life and experiences with time. Hope you find this interesting as well ❤
I love your aesthetic and your taste in Literature! I don't enjoy super contemporary/romance books that are popular right now so I appreciate your attention to more obsure literature. Looking forward to more videos from you! Also, I'm a Latin-American poet. I would love to send you/give you the link to my book so maybe you can add me to your list of Latina authors hehe
That thing you said about your journals being your friends resonated so much. I’m about to make a big move abroad, to a country where I don’t speak the language and don’t know anyone - so my journals will be doing some heavy lifting keeping me sane through it all… I also love that some of your entries are in Spanish! As a native Russian speaker who's lived in a fully English-speaking environment for the past 7 years, I have recently started journaling in Russian from time to time and noticed how different of a person I am in different languages. Do you notice that at all with your journaling practice? Would love to hear you talk about that if you ever feel like sharing. Subscribing and wishing you best of luck on your UA-cam journey ❤
Totally, I will talk about existing in between places and languages. I think it’s a great idea ✨ Since moving to Korea, I journal solely in Spanish. I really miss speaking in my mother tongue, so it makes me feel closer to home. Funny enough, when I was in Spain, I used to journal in English to practice, but now I feel like I want to stay connected to my roots ✨.
@@adrislogs Yay - looking forward to that so much! It’s fascinating to see how we multilingual folks switch between languages, especially in private, when the language is not dictated by the environment. There are worlds contained within each language, emotions that only exist within it.
excited to follow you in your journaling journey! and I love your taste in books! am reading how to write an autobiographical novel too. am envious of where you are (korea) and I also want to visit barcelona in the future
Hey, like everyone, I deeply enjoyed your first video but I’ve seen no comments about the ring (!!!) I’m sorry she is soo gorgeous where did you find this gem?! 🥹 the big round one… I couldn’t stop watching it throughout the video haha! Anyway, just subscribed and going to binge the two other videos that are up hehe 🤭 x
Thank you so much! 😊 The ring is made from an actual American dollar. There’s a small vendor in Mallorca who turns coins from all over the world into rings. I checked, but couldn’t find a website. Maybe you can get crafty and make your own! 😉
If I’m in a journaling “funk,” I have multiple backup options: journal at a different time of day, use the same one-line prompts, or just find something to be grateful for.
I think changing the time you journal or adding a gratitude line are great ideas! For some reason, I can’t get along with journaling prompts, but I’m glad to hear they work for you.🍀
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on journaling.
@@adrislogs Oh thank youuu! 🥹 You’re so sweet~!💌
Great video
Hope you find this interesting as well ❤
Update: I got it! Found a shop in Spain that sells it and I did not have to pay the shipping costs. I am so excited for my first hobonichi!!!
Thank you for your kind words! I’d love the link to your book-that’s so exciting! I can’t wait to check it out ✨
That thing you said about your journals being your friends resonated so much.
Wishing you the best of luck on your move! ❤
@@TheCommonCorner Ah thank you so much! Your videos have been keeping me company while packing 🩶
@@adrislogs Yay - looking forward to that so much! It’s fascinating to see how we multilingual folks switch between languages, especially in private, when the language is not dictated by the environment. There are worlds contained within each language, emotions that only exist within it.
@@sofiiawithtwoeyes ah so happy to hear I can keep you company! 🥰
excited to follow you in your journaling journey! and I love your taste in books! am reading how to write an autobiographical novel too. am envious of where you are (korea) and I also want to visit barcelona in the future
Thank you so much! 😊 Do you have a favorite read from this year? I would like to hear your recommendations ✨
@@adrislogs I highly recommend The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune and Out There by Kate Folk :)
Nice video! ❤
@@adrislogs ohhh such a good idea!
If I’m in a journaling “funk,” I have multiple backup options: journal at a different time of day, use the same one-line prompts, or just find something to be grateful for.
I think changing the time you journal or adding a gratitude line are great ideas! For some reason, I can’t get along with journaling prompts, but I’m glad to hear they work for you.🍀
I'd be very interested in the latin american female autors if you'd like to share
For sure! I think I will prepare some book related content soon ✨
