मेहमूद जैसा कलाकार, निदेशक, निर्माता और दया द्रष्टि‌ रखने वाला इंसान कोई नहीं है, अमिताभ ने सात हिंदुस्तानी से डेब्यू किया था और उसके बाद दो तीन फिल्में भी कि लेकिन फ्लोप और उसके पास होटल का किराया देने के पैसे भी नहीं थे पर मेहमूद ने उसे अपने घर पर रखा और 26:00 बोम्बे टू गोवा में काम देकर उसे आगे बढ़ने कि राह दिखाई, और एक दिन सलीम जावेद को मिलें और कहा कि इसके लिए कोई अच्छी फिल्म लिखो, तो सलीम जावेद ने जंजीर बनाईं और इसी फ़िल्म से अमिताभ बच्चन सुपरस्टार बन गया, उसके बाद मेहमूद से रिश्ता हीं खत्म। " " "जिस थाली में खाना खाएं उस में छेद नहीं करते" पर अमिताभ ने ऐसा करके अपने को नालायक और नमक हराम साबित कर दिया।
