your VAWT had an amazing run! It was a shame to see it end this way😕. what failure in the electronics allowed it to overspeed? Hope to see some more video when you get it put back together😊 Are you making some changes in the wing mounts?

Hi Itsandbits1. One of the two protections, which was supposed to stop the propeller at increased voltage, did not respond. The second was turned off. The voltage at the moment of the accident was 116V and the power 1600W on the controller's record. Even if the TriStar controller does not have a reset in the record, it could happen that it disconnected the turbine.
In short, the wind was too strong. The turbine should have been braked much earlier for safety reasons.
Now I have a device ready that will measure wind speed, not turbine voltage. If the set value is exceeded, the turbine switches off for the set time.
I will anchor the ends of the wings to the arm from now on. The wings have quite a lot of epoxy mass at the ends.
I am currently working also on a new HAWT. I need more power than VAWT can supply. A more powerful VAWT would have to be bigger, but that's beyond reasonable costs.
HAWT construction can be seen here: solarforum.cz/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=504

@@mirocellar that looks like a good sized build; I just like the look of the VAWTs.

@@itsandbits1 Me too. Unfortunately, if I want a lot more power, I have to downgrade to HAWT 🙂
