HOW TO FIX A FLAT IN 1 MINUTE
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 кві 2020
- A few weeks ago we posted a raw video to Patreon of Macky attempting a KOM on a trail in Sedona. Unfortunately, he got a flat, but all the comments on Patreon were about the same thing: how fast he fixed that flat. So in today's video, we share Macky's race day flat fixing tips and see if Syd can pull off the sub 1min flat fix.

Syd,Macky, stay safe from Pennsylvania. Prayers sent for your healing. God bless
A DynaPlug and a quick link have saved my ride numerous times out in the middle of nowhere. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
This fast tire fix is pretty cool and useful. Syd, your hair looks amazing!
That video was far more entertaining than the title promised. Macky is a wizard. 🤙 Greetings from Austria. Stay healthy.
this was a fun watch ! thanks for keeping us entertained!
Thanks guys for this video. I know it was messy and maybe not that much fun, but it was super helpful to me, and probably a lot of other people.
Great video once again! It just goes to show it's worth while practicing just to find out what way suits you best! 💪👊🙌
3:57 thats what she said :D "drum riff" lol..Thanks for another video guys..Stay safe and RAD!!
Really enjoying your videos. That was fun watching.
That was great! I need that dyno set up.
That is fast. And I didn't know about those plugs at all so thank you.
Love stuff like this, great information; I subscribed because of this video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Awesome! Welcome!
what a fun concept ... fast flat fixes are a lost art
Soooo glad you showed us exactly what happens to us mortals on the trail Syd!
😂😂😭
Very informative and interesting video guys.....
Macky's shit eatin' grin cuz he knows he's one of the best @1:43 ...
Edit: Another great video you two. We all need as much of this as possible.
☺️☺️
Have used a dollar bill a couple times works great! Enough to get me back to the house!
Can confirm, bent my rim sending it down some PA rocks in Pittsburgh last weekend.
I love these vids so much
Thank you ☺️☺️
SYD and MACKY thank u for the good content
I have impressed my friends with my tire plugging speeds before. I use the one up EDC pump / tool with a plugger adapted into it and pre loaded with 2 bacon strips and its mounted on the frame. Had a friend say they heard a air leak, by the time they spun the puncture to the top i was at there bike and inserting the plug. Couple pumps from a 100cc pump and off we go. I was done before they could even comprehend what was happening. LoL.
Amazing. 👍
Exactly what happens to me and also when my chain snaps, to the point where I always ride with a spare Eagle chain especially if some steep techy climbs that love to snap several linkages in one go even though there's a weight penalty.
PA rider rocky is an understatement!
I don't do any racing, but I think I might pick up some of those plugs, that's great. That'd get me the rest of the way home.
Stans has those new darts that works with the sealant.
Best video on how to plug a wheel! You guys should do more of these videos. One question though, I've read online that you shouldn't use CO2 to inflate tubeless because it causes the sealant to freeze, obviously this can't be avoided in a race, but do you guys refill with new sealant when you get home?
We usually replace the tire and put new sealant. However, when we're being lazy and don't have a race we have gone weeks with a plug and not had that issue so I don't know.. maybe slime sealant doesn't react 🤷♀️
Yeah, slime is co2 safe -M
First - I hope you all are safe and comfy in your home base in New Mexico.
Apparently, you're not too worried about staying "unmessy" when pushing a tube in a sealant-filled tubeless tire (I'm guessing that's the lesson at 6:29 anyway - Haha!).
Third - what kind of sealant are you using that's bright neon green?
Fourth - those Dynaplugs are expensive! Also, didn't Brian Kennedy from BKXC review these once and wasn't all that impressed? I guess each person's got their own opinions on this stuff.
10:22 - This is also me when trying to plug a tire lately. And Syd hits the nail on the head at 11:49.
Stay safe and look forward to your next video!
-Brian
It's slime pro sealant. We also use the genuine innovations bacon strips if we aren't racing because they are wayyy cheaper. However they don't seal nearly as quickly as the dynaplug. They are kind of fussy. The dynaplug probably isn't worth the money if you aren't racing...but it is significantly faster so if seconds count...
Macky - where did you get the bag you keep your inflator kit in? Been looking for something the same size for a while now? Many thanks - great vids

Great Video! Question about your tires you run on your XC bikes, which Vittoria do you usually run? I live in Utah Valley so loose over hardpack and gravel is very common at races, how do your tires hold up grip-wise On that kind of stuff? Also what would you recommend for a Front and Back combo for a 100mm full suspension?
We generally do double Barzos for XC. 2.2 rear and either 2.2 or 2.35 front. Then either XC race or XC trail casing depending on how sharp the rocks are.
Hello syd and macky will the dyna plug damage your rim if you get another puncture from the brass end? Have you had this happen yet?
My best time to change a flat is 2:30. We had a contest in school and I won $20 bike shop gift card🤙🤟🤑
The DynaPlug end needs to be sharper and have a longer taper.
Niner owner and a Pa rock rider here, tubeless is the greatest invention ever, if you live in the rocks.
I see Forester I smile :)
Macky, I love your choices in equipment. Do you have a hand pump recommendation?
I had a sidewall puncture that didn’t seem to get sealed with bacon today and I ran out of co2 cartridges. So frustrating!
We don't really have one that we love, but we've been looking at some cool combo ones that are both a pump and a CO2 inflator head so you don't have to carry both: bit.ly/2X8MVvp
Fan of stans dart
PA baby, love riding my chunk.
the Stan's Dart plug might be a better and equally fast solution since it has a chemical reaction to the latex sealant causing it to seal better?
True. And the sharper point would be easier to get in.
So in the comments you seem to say bacon strips are way cheaper and take longer to seal. But... They say you get what you pay for... Is Dyna Plug worth it for superior no fuss trail work? Trying to decide on this versus the Stan's darts, but many say Stan's darts don't work that well. I really appreciated this video, never heard of Dyna plug till your video. Would like to hear if you think its worth the money over the bacon strips.
It depends what your goal is. If you generally are okay with sitting on the side of the trail for a while while it seals, then go for the bacon strips. If you want it to seal ASAP (racing, etc) go for the Dyna plug.
What size CO2 cartridge is needed for a 29ers? Cool video!
The bigger the better. We generally use 20 or 25g cartridges.
I will stick with bacon strips lol! Never let me down. Fun video...
We use bacon strips if we aren't racing because they are so much cheaper. Dynaplug tends to seal faster so worth it for a race scenario.
How do you find leak so fast?
Have you tried the Dynaplug Air? Wouldn't that be even faster?
What if the hole are In the side like tire rim sidewall?
Depending on the size of the hole, the plug may work and the the protocol is exactly the same. If it is a proper sidewall slice you will probably need to put in a tube and use a energy bar wrapper or something to reinforce. Sidewall slices suck!
Late to this party and I saw another comment about the Stan's Dart Tool. Have you all tried it?? I have one but fortunately haven't had to use it yet.
We haven't tried one yet, but have heard good things...
What kind of grips do you use?
Velo!
Get syd a dart tool, I want one.
Ah yes, the old "you have to get this CO2 cartridge out of my front pocket" trick! :-)
Dig the scruff
Do the flip flops help or hinder the process?
Lol definitely hinder
Are spectators allowed to help competitors during a race?
Depends on the race but generally once you've had two flats no one cares too much 😂
Where in Lehigh did syd race. I am a local and was wondering which trail system it was
It was almost ten years ago and I have no idea! But I feel like we started on Lehigh campus...
SYD and MACKY thanks for the info I did not know that there were trails over there.
Chris Henderson I know about those I just was having geographic issues in my head. I have ridden at these places already. Thank you anyway.
Is there a reason you didn’t flip the bike over (instead of dropping it on the drivetrain side)? 😀. If I’m working on a flat on the trail, that’s always step #1 for me. Am I inadvertently messing something up?
It's marginally faster to not flip it over 😂 Also if you have a cycling computer putting it upside down can scratch the screen.
Good point about the computer. Been there!
So if three minutes is no big deal in XC, why not just run downhill tires with a foam core? Always wondered about that since seeing Sagan flat three times in the Olympics. Honestly 99% of my flats are due to big drops and rim pinch, but a minimum of 50 lbs of air (w/ tubes) seems to solve that.
At the pro level 3 minutes will almost certainly prevent you from winning. It won't necessarily leave you in last place like it would in enduro, which was more my point. At the amateur level there are often three minutes between competitors at endurance xc events 🤷♀️
Also, you aren't guaranteed to flat if you run lightweight tires, so it's generally better to risk it and then take the penalty if you do flat than guarantee yourself an extra 3 minutes by running super heavy tires...
Holy shit, how many gallons of sealant are in those tires?!
Slime Pro sealant????
Yup!
Australian money is actually plastic, so $5.00 AUD works well for fixing larger holes in tyres
Just thinking you guys probably have old footage that you can use like the competition you guys did and instead of doing like you guys usually do that you show both of you at the same time do one day for her alone then make
And because everyone has so much time with nothing to do feel free to make it as long as you can
If you can thanks for the great entertainment experience
Well done, except the bike was laid on the derailleur. The way he dropped the frame could bend the derailleur. That's a bad thing.
Fortunately derailleurs can handle much worse than that!
Red or green?
Christmas baby!
But actually we are both team green
@@sydandmacky What?! That's it, I'm never watching your videos again! ;)
I was just wondering: the
its big needle haha
Note some sealants react with CO2.
Yup, but not SLIME!
It was quick but it didn’t last very long
Internet lies! Vittoria's never flat 😜
You could just run Orange Seal and you wont have to put anything in your tire.
