- In Part 1 of this 3-part series, we join forces with my good friend @HeavyDSparks to sit down with the Anderson family and Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Cold Case Detective, Ben Pender. Together, we dive deep into the disappearance of Steven Willard Anderson, who vanished without a trace on June 6th, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
That day, Steve told his family he was heading to the family cabin near Flaming Gorge, a 3-4 hour drive away. He left driving his dark green Toyota Sequoia, Utah license plate 597-LPA. But neither Steve nor his vehicle were ever seen again-until now. This is where the search began. This is how we ended up finding Steve, and it’s a journey that reveals the heart-wrenching, complex reality of solving cold cases.
Each cold case we take on is unique. Every search brings its own set of challenges, every family bears a different story of hope and loss, and every outcome is shaped by dynamics that often remain unseen. What you’re about to witness is just a fraction of the tireless work and teamwork that goes into finding answers. Trust me, most of what we experience in these cases never makes it to your screen.
It’s more than just a search-it’s a process of learning, adapting, and building a network of dedicated professionals who work together to create results. Through countless mistakes and hard-earned lessons, I’ve learned to lead with humility, always striving to get better, and never forgetting that behind each case are real people, real families waiting for closure.

I think the interview with family was and is so important. Hearing the family talk about Stephens' mental health was really heartbreaking, yet really insightful. I hope it helps other families understand what could be happening to loved ones and possibly get them some help if they can. ❤

I'm not sure when this video was created, I see it was uploaded today, but they were able to locate Steven. Dave Sparks from the HeavyDSparks UA-cam channel and his team assisted Doug and his organization on this search. Dave posted a video today about the recovery of Steven and his vehicle. Doug actually shared Dave's Video.
I'm grateful that men like Doug and Dave use their platform to not only help families answer questions about where their loved ones ended up, but also bring attention to so many important issues such as mental health and the larger numbers of missing persons cold cases.

Yes, I saw the outcome of the search on FB, I think it was Sunshine Sonar, a while ago, but I didn't know whether to acknowledge it on this video or wait for Part 3. I think the full rescue & recovery are also on the Bone Rush Channel? I watched HeavyDSparks straight after this one.

These cases are both sad and traumatizing for the families. Their stories deserve to be told. I am grateful to the family for sharing their painful experience with the disapperance and loss of a beloved man. A son, a father, a brother, a family member. Suddenly gone.
