Love this plane. If you get a Pipistrel Sinus Max, you have almost 590 lbs of useful load depending on equipment. It’s pretty amazing with a 27:1 glide ratio. It’s fun to climb to 5000 and shut the motor off.
Thoroughly enjoyed your video Mike! I have to say that it's people like you that make America great! You came here from Lagos, Nigeria and you are living your dream. You have inspired me to work towards my pilot license, thank you for that! I can't wait to see your progress on your build.
Had the chance to talk to the factory rep at Sun n Fun. He and his wife flew over 7 hours non-stop to the south Caribbean. He said he beat the big planes because they had to stop for fuel. I would want the convertible wingtip option. Gets your storage width down to 32 feet. And it still glides well.
MIKE... This is the airplane you should be saving for. It is less than half the price of the Sling, it comes almost fully factory assembled which saves you hours and trips to and from the build site, (You mount the wings and removable wing extensions and tips), it comes rigged for silent running, it gets outstanding fuel economy, maintenance costs are low, it is aerobatic by nature, (get the tail drager), which makes this airplane more fun to fly and it is kind of pretty especially in the tail drager version. The only down side for you "MAY BE" the lack of the two rear seats. Other than that, this bird has everything going for it including the simple and inexpensive I-Pad nav system. You could have your own great new airplane in half the time!
You have just read my mind, i cant stop watching Sinus Flex videos, they are awesome gliders. Add tail dragger big 21" tundra tires and they are also a bush plane. Fantastic! Buy the Sinus Max (590lbs load) with parachute, 26 gallon tanks, MH oxygen system, Dynon avionics and you cant be disappointed flying more than 1000 nautical miles in total safety and pleasure. Thats my dream plane.
another advantage of the Pipestrel motor gliders is that you can fly them with just a glider pilot's license, which is the easiest to get ... just 10 hours of instruction time required, no medical, and fewer limitations than the sport pilot license. The Pipestrel Sinus Flex has removeable wing tips, which come off in 5 minutes, which makes it easy to store in almost any hanger.
You make me so proud!!! You are my hero. I wish all people who came here lived life as full as you do!! Your 1000 times the person most Americans are and that's so bad ass!!!
Based on this video, and another about the Inverness Right Rudder motor glider course, I'm seriously in the pool on this. And also that a 14yr old soloed the Sinus cross country! Another great video Mike!
Found your channel a few days ago and this maker of planes less than that. I hope You will demo the 4place Panthera. You note what I seem to observe...the less bumpy stability of this plane. Amazing.
Thanks Mike. Too bad there weren't some nice cumulus clouds to soar under. That steep turn (>45 degrees) is a normal thermal turn and you can climb to cloud base and soar for hours and hundreds of miles with the engine shut down in that ship.
Small EU country Slovenia has a long history of making airplanes first Slovenain guy who flew with his own airplane was Mr. Edvard Rusijan only 5 years after brothers Wright first flight and company Pipistrel is the youngest (since 1989) but very successful successor of Mr. Rusijan
Mike, great video. I'm starting a motor glider school after I finish my online ground school. I asked the owner his thoughts on buying a Pipistrel and he didn't have a glowing review. He teaches in a Diamond HK36. Is this just a difference between Ford and Chevy owners? I didn't really want to quiz him as new student as to why he frowned at the Pipistrel. Thanks.
Really think the background music spoils the video. We need to hear the engine, cockpit audio. This could have been a great video had it not been for that
Hey Lonnie. What a small world. If you are . From ( Eccles WV. ) ? Last time I say u . At Dinner . your Home. With BJ. U were about 10 yrs Old. Lol . I. havent aged at all.
Mike, great video, as always! I was thinking of getting one of these. To offset some of the costs I was thinking of doing some aerial photography. With so many people using drones, is aerial photography a viable option? With it being an LSA, ferrying passengers/stuff or sightseeing tours are out. How about any other ways to offset the costs?
We t for a flight in one a few years back. I had to ask the owner which u did t cover here is “ what is negative flaps”. Ha ha that was the first time of ever seen them. Great plane for sure. But my 32’w barn is a no go for that long set of flappers 😁
Most flapped gliders have the ability to negative (reflex) the flaps slightly. This aids in high speed flight by reducing lift and drag to be more efficient, Then you lower flaps (positive) when in slow thermal flight or the landing pattern. My glider has 2 negative detents (and 3 positive) for different airspeed ranges. Kind of like shifting a car to be in the correct flap setting (gear) for airspeed .
Nope All you have to do is get a motor endorsement and you’re set to go and go flying all you want can you have more ability to go higher altitude possibly fly at night if it’s a IFR rated more than LSA rated airplanes
As far as I know, you need a glider rating to fly this aircraft. A glider rated pilot can fly this with just a log book sign off by an instructor even without a SEL or Light Sport license.
This is classified as a light sport glider. You can fly it with an LSA rating OR with a glider rating and self launch endorsement. Which rating you use will determine the restrictions you have I.e. a sport pilot has the typical lsa altitude limit, but a glider pilot does not.
The downside of this aircraft is the same as any other LSA: price. At $100k-$110k, you're into this plane for four times what a mid-time 150 goes for. I'll never understand why regulators allowed this to happen.
@@mojogrip Mike, Other than the fact that I am interested in your take on the idea of your purchasing the Sinus as opposed to the Sling, the answer is NO, I don't have a "specific" question like... how long have you been flying or what is your favorite food?
Lol well I'll still answer those. I started my flight journey in 2015, di I've been flying for 4 years. Favorite food I'd probably rice or anything with 😂
@@mojogrip I am with you on the rice! Basmati of course. But how about your thoughts on the Sinus as opposed to the Sling which I wrote of in my original comment. So here is a valid question... Would you consider switching your airplane preference from the Sling to the Sinus and if so why and if not, why not. This is a fair enough question from a potential backer who sincerely wants to know if you have given his question any real thought. I am sure that other of your subs would like an answer as well given the financial investments you are seeking. Thanks

Thanks for taking us along! Awesome flight
I think my face would be stiff from smiling throughout the flight.
We all have to admit that this guy is doing a good job reviewing these aircrafts
Thanks Mike. Best Regards from Arne in Norway
dude. i think you broke your face smiling so hard. great vid
Nice aircraft ... I love it
Excellent video! This plane looks really fun and safe.
This really catchs me. in terms of safety options you have.. if something bads happens...

Very nice & smooth review, great job... at the end...I was hypnotized !!!
I love this plane
I am pilot in Airforce NCC (NATIONAL CADET CORPS)

Great review. This plane looks like much fun. I will be stopping by their booth at AirVenture.

Sweet aircraft and what a landing!
Awesome 👍.this is what we expected from Mike the great.
The Pipistrel 4 seater is also finally announced :)
I so love this plane, but I fine the long wingspan intimidating.
Sinus Flex
Virus SW
I love sports Aircraft thanks for posting, have you have Qhiksilver videos thx!
Very nice, do you make one for 4 passengers?
Charming chap! Really enjoyed you review! :)

Sinus Flex taildragger with tundra tires and Edge Performance Rotax 156 hp might be ideal for me... If I had the dough...
Mike, I just love your videoes and comments. You abt to be a star ;)
I absolutely love your channel, AND KNOWLEDGE!
You have such great content!
Educational as usual sir. Great aircraft. Great Vid

Would like more details on the Gs and glide ratio.
Keep the good content coming
Awesome video Mike... 👍🏼.
Wow, I'm really impressed by this plane and love it, just wish you could carry 4 people. That gliding feature is amazing and Hella fun!
When do you rivew a wt9 dynamic and risen aircraft? Those are top ones...
Cool plane.
Mike you are more awesome than you know.
Thank you SV

this has parachute?
That's a seriously underrated aircraft. Shame you cant get a kid in the back.

they have a motor glide license i thought.
Beauty. I would buy that.....except I don't fly.
Since this is a motorglider can a person with a PPL Glider certificate fly this or do you still need a Sport Pilot certificate to fly this?
Nope All you have to do is get a motor endorsement and you’re set to go and go flying all you want can you have more ability to go higher altitude possibly fly at night if it’s a IFR rated more than LSA rated airplanes
Thanks. This would definitely be better than the ulralights. They are limited to only 5 gallons of fuel.
This plan can be registered as a glider (motorglider) and flown with a glider license with self-launch endorsement.
How much $$$?
So is this an LSA or a glider? What certificate do I need to fly it?
As far as I know, you need a glider rating to fly this aircraft. A glider rated pilot can fly this with just a log book sign off by an instructor even without a SEL or Light Sport license.

that wing looks like it's just about a half mile long lol

The tail sets to low for me , I think you drug tail on that landing.
interesting name for a plane...?
Yes that of a Bat Pipistrelle not Pipistrell

S "I" nus not sinnus.
As in cavities in your skull.
I think the company actually pronounces it "Sinnus".
It's a Slovania brand George and it's pronounced as I did in the video. Same with the Virus model; pronounced Vee not Vi.
@@mojogrip Ok understood.
