@@brunetteXer1) Dating apps are not solely for the hookups that you decry. You can specify the interactions you wish to engage in. Plus, many people have begun their love stories and gotten married from meeting people on those apps.
      2) Tf you mean by "the modern age"? This isn't history; love stories like this were as rare then as they are now. This is basically courtship fanfic, a parody of dating practices in the 19th century. In reality, the vast majority of the men of Mr. Darcy's rank and station plowed their way through all of the courtesans of every port city they breezed through before getting married to whoever gave them an advantage in society.

I just had the realization that Darcy willfully reached down as Lizzie was walking past him to grab her hand and help her into the carriage. It wasn’t some expected thing that he had to do. He chose to do it out of impulse and attraction to her. He was like, “This is my chance. Don’t let her get away this time, Darcy,” and he grabbed her hand in that sudden moment. Something that he no doubt had been wanting to do (among other things), for a long time. Eeee 🤗😂

Do you think that Lizzy's "what a shame for I dearly love to laugh..." statement let Darcy know that he was still on the hook for the "barely tolerable" description of her at the Meryton dance hall, thus leading to the assist in helping her into the carriage (his first opportunity at touching her since he did not dance at the Meryton hall), thus the hand flex?

@@annkey4091 Absolutely! Also, I think that she made a point that she was not taking his first remark about her looks so seriously, as an insult - she just lauged it off. The touch of a hand can be interpreted as a subtle apology and acknowledgement of her beauty.

    Just hold on ONE MINUTE.
    Okay, one moment.
Just the logistics of holding her hand. He has to move his eyes, locate her hand, hold that hand and then steer it up to balance her on to the carriage. Bingley was on the right, whilst Darcy on the left. So she knew EXACTLY who it could and couldn't be. He had to go out of his way, step forward and get her hand. And then throughout the story he keeps going out of his way to LEND HER A HELPING HAND.

I would only ever do this gesture when I came in to contact with someone that I felt disdain for. I always wondered why he did it??? Reading your comments indicates that it was the result of attraction? I would have never came away with that. So glad this scene was posted. This is an anecdote, but my husband said that the first time he touched my hand, it tingled. Like electricity. He said he was surprised that he had a physical reaction like that. That’s how I’ve always interpreted the hand flex. Either Darcy had a physical reaction, or he is savoring the memory of touching her hand and subconsciously moving his in response to that. Kinda like how if you’re having a really immersive memory, you might say something out loud or make a face in response to the memory

I grew up in a strict religious household where a couple won't touch hands till declared husband and wife.
Imagine after several months of being together and you finally can touch your lover's hands after so much longing!
It felt so unreal. Like a vivid dream or something.

Most people don't realize, but back then holding a woman's hand like this was a big no no. If this was expected socially, then it would be ok, but in that moment it wasn't expected. That kind of touching was only allowed under certain social circumstances, and though this would've been acceptable, it would've still been cheeky which is why Elizabeth looked at him with such shock and confusion. To us him grabbing her hand like that is no big deal, but to women at that time it was HUGE! You did not touch a woman like that unless you wanted her

on the other hand: when saying goodbye, I reached for her hand, timidly...barely grazed the skin...it was cold, she didn't make the slightest movement in return. We both turned and walked away, me feeling sick to my stomach and her feeling...I'll probably never know.

I see this scene on Valentine's day. How romantic. I really would like men to be like Mr. Darcy. Lets not focus on the money. A man that does not take himself to seriously and is concerned about helping his family and friends. A man that stood up to protect his sister and provided for her at all times. A man that makes friends because he want to honestly help. Most men are not like that. Most men also believe the gossip women tend to favor. Ah men are no longer men for the most part. They no longer know how to lead women. And women just no longer know how to lead their children. I am just rambling on. This is the truth.

Firstly, symbolism, he has offered her "his hand" in marriage. Hands are big symbols in this movie. She kisses his hand and then clasps it. It's a gesture that says "I accept you, I'm sorry for hurting you before, and I care about you" all at once. To underscore that she cares for him she says his hands are cold, verbally acknowledging his welfare for the first time (Are they cold because of the night air or is it her fault for letting them get that way without her? You be the judge). Plus she's just overcome by the beauty of what he's just said, I mean how do you top that!? You can't! 💖
