I read this story in a set book back in high school, Mayai Waziri WA Maradhi: Ndimi za mauti, my fasihi teacher mentioned she was teaching at this particular school when tragedy struck! May their soul rest in peace.
Case Files: Twelve years ago, 67 students perished in a dormitory inferno, set by their fellow students. Just what happened at the Kyanguli secondary school in Machakos on that fateful night and was the tragedy preventable? bitly.com/19GsXmJ
I was in Form one back then and I recall our Principle Mr. Kiwara had to call a meeting to let the students know of what evil other students can do..Truly justice was not serviced.
Very hearting story😢 even watching the documentary is a problem 14yrs still no justice to the victims. Burning or destroying any school property on grounds of insufficient food served and issues of examination is unethical. Have seen one of the suspects(student) state that he was was involved in the purchase of the petrol bt wasn't involved in the storming of the dormitory ...have never heard of such a case...it's like buying a rope for someone to commit suicide then then you keep of yourself from the act that that he/she has committed. Big and unanswered questions in our minds are; 1: After the students suspected of petrol smells in the dormitory, why did the school administration and the school security personnel not take strict and faster reaction in doing thorough investigation? Why did they conduct just shallow investigation then went on rest on that very night when they had already known of some students unrest due to matters of food and examination 2: Why has justice taken decades to be administered to the victims? 3: Why was the case involving the two suspects (students) terminated? If the excuse was that they were under age, why is that they weren't taken to juvenile court? 3: Why did the government hesitate to give further direction concerning the the case or the whereabouts of the two suspects? 🙏Let the souls of the 67 boys with bright future continue resting in eternal peace 🕊️🕊️.We hope however long it takes, justice will be bestowed in their families.
I am just hearing this in sept 2024 and I am shocked that the parents let them walk all these years. The whole country let them walk with no jungle justice. This is sad
Good job Dennis for keeping us informed, Justice was never served to the victims and may the Lord rest their soul in eternal Peace. I hope the government and the schools administration are taking caution to safeguard and protect lives of students.
Am sure these men don’t have peace wherever they are today seeing their mates with burnt scars and the spirits of 67 others haunting them!! So insensitive of them laughing at court
These two are now grown men and God knows they will never find peace in this life or the next. the painful death of those boys will haunt them forever.
They are now in their early 30s probably even having family.... Would they wish anyone to hurt their kids .. ??? They will pay for all the evil they did
a very sad thing,i remember being in form 2 in a neighboring school...wont forget how this incidence left us shocked and fearful...may GOD rest their souls in peace and give those affected peace and strength
extremely sad to raise a son only for him to die the most painful death...standing in the hallway and being pushed by other students till you succumb to the smoke and fire...*tears*...it almost happened in my school...But God was gracious to us.RIP and may God give strength to the famillies
how in the world could this termed as a mistrial? the boys admitted to taking part in the plan. smh at how some people don't take other peoples' lives seriously. the judge should have put himself in the parent's shoes and justice would have been served.
They might have changed their identities but not in the eyes of God. God is forgiving but only when you are remorseful. I pray to God to continue giving strength to the parents, families and friends of the 67 boys
Even the place that was supposed to be a fite exit for them was blocked. What a pity so sad. Every school should have fire exit, northing should be kept in front of it or behind it,just in case there could be a way out.
felix mambo ngumbau son of kimanga changed name to..............................cant mention deu to family reasons bt he is still there.tears pass when i remember that day.what the entire mitini ,matua, kyanga and our village went through after news broke out.may their soul rest in peace and parent agree to terms
Sad that they had to lose their lives mysteriously. But the deputy principal and the principal were very complacent. This most dreaded disaster had been simmering for too long. Their response was very careless. Judiciary and the police too never did their best for reparations and quest for justice. May they continue resting in peace.
20 plus years fast forward after the Kyanguli nightmare... another fire at Hillside Endarasha School claimed more than 20 young lives. It's time we do away with boarding schools if the measures put in place are not effective in preventing and dealing with fire incidences in schools.
Its very shocking to see what students are doing to their fellow students, children that we are depending on for them to help us in the future are doing evil things, whom will we rely on during our old ages??????????
I agree there is so much unrest in Boarding schools...I know a school somewhere in Central,Nyeri to be precise, that was closed and the entire student population from form one to form fours expelled due to incidents of unrest and that was in the late 90's the school had to be put under new management.
@@samkrooo8017 Kirimara high school...that was in the late 1990s....they expelled the entire school population with the form fours only allowed to return to the school to sit for their final exams...there after, the school was put under new management which means they had to admit fresh students..the school had numerous cases of unrest, rampant bullying, strikes every term, drug abuse, truancy and other bad criminal behaviour among students teachers being assaulted, students sneaking out of school and attacking mugging villagers etc...so bad was the school, the former management had no choice but to shut it down and expelled the entire student population with police being called, standing guard and students being given just a couple of minutes to take their belongings and vacate the school...I should know, because a relative attended the school in the mid 90s.
Very bad indeed.incidents almost happened in 2007 but we had to stop such as student body leadership board.due to hatred though expulsion happened but I could not stand thr facts.Rip all those who lost and the Honolulu outcome
Its painful case. The rich can get out of evil doing by the power of money. I feel the parents bt the jurisdiction rulling is so temptative, i wish the evils been brought to book in the court of God. I wish i can get that guy and torture them to hell like they never ever seen or experience in there entire life
the incident happened but regardless of the action of students we still have authority to blame as the dormitory which served 100 students ought to have fire exit doors. Never the less even after this incident we did not see health and safety of public building improved by make it mandatory to have fire exit in all buildings
Pole sana though kids will be kids those guys who did that evil act did it in ignorance of their childishness at the time and it cost lives.Personally i wouldnt take my kids to boarding school cause childish ignorance of other peoples kids can cause danger to ur own kids imagine stuff like brutal bullying and rape even of the same sex whether girls or boys do happen.I think personally boarding schools for especially for teenagers should be banned in kenya to protect kids.
That journalist asking the kid to look up when talking . you're mad . Straight from tragedy, you want an interview and a kid at that,, you're MAD!!
So insensitive.... no compassion no empathy ........
