I was switching from Finale to Dorico recently, now I 'm building a new Chord library. Your video is very helpful! Unfortunately, I still haven't found a workflow for the following problem: I would like to move all chord symbols, alterations, sus, add., etc. BELOW the uppercase flat or sharp symbol of the root, in order to save space. Do You have any idea? Thanks a lot! Best regards, Claudio
It sounds like you’re wanting the SUS or MA of the cord to be aligned with the bottom of the capital letter of the chord symbol. Is that correct? If so. This is found under the engrave menu under cord symbols. It takes a little bit digging, but there is alignment options.
Well, I would like to have the accidentals as superscript and below that the scale degree or chord quality as subscript (Like in the Irealb app). That does not seem possible at the moment but it would be really great to shorten the width of the whole symbol…
Now I’m starting to understand. Technically there is a way to do what you’re asking, but it’s somewhat complicated. You would have to go in and change the default appearance of one of the cord symbol types in Dorico to make it match up with the cord symbols like iReal Pro. If you watch the portion of the video where I showed how to make the capital MA into a little MA, you would do that, but you’d have to do it for literally all the chord types you want to change. Sorry it’s not more automatic, but that would be kind of the only way to do it that I know of.
Wow, thanks for the great video. You saved me time converting my Finale projects to Dorico. I like your video presentation style. I don't think your background music is too distracting since it is not too loud.
Great tipps! thank you!. To select all chord symbols, you can select one an use the shortcut for Select All (Shift+Option+A) twice (the first time all the chord symbols in the system will be selected, the second time all the chords symbols in the flow will be selected) ;-) (opps, I noticed that this was already being suggested yesterday)
Yes. I have been trying this one, but it is still a bit clunky when I want to select just 8 bars of chords not the whole document. Guess I will keep working on it
@@larsenjazzmusic I see. You can select the 8 bars (with the system track) and then use the filter, but with a right click, so the contextual menu appears near your mouse pointer, and shows only the commands available with that selection, and choose filter/chord symbols. You can also assign a shortcut to this: notice that you can create shortcuts with combined letter: try to assign to "filter chord symbols" the shortcut: command+f+c (just press "command+f" together, and then "c", into the "press shortcut" field in the key commands for "filter chord symbols" ;-)
Yes, this is typically how I select a short number of measures when I wanna just grab the chord symbols. However, something as basic is copying just chords, it would be nice if I didn’t have to make a custom shortcut or use extra tools for highlighting. maybe I’m alone in this, but I copy chord symbols in almost every single composition so just stinks that I have to take all these extra steps. It does make me miss how finale would allow you to set a filter on what gets copied and pasted to allow you to leave out certain elements. But on the plus side, it is nice for regular copy and paste. You don’t have to worry about things like chord symbols getting moved around.
Great video, thank you! (May I suggest to don't have the continuous background music?: it distracts and make looking at the video a little more difficult).
Just out of curiosity, would you rather it had no background music and just me talking the entire time? I always feel like that. Feels a little sterile for a 15 minute long video. Possibly a matter of maybe turning the background music down a bit.
@@larsenjazzmusic Of course it’s personal, but I would prefer no music in the background. If you view other music tutorials, most do not have background music. I almost can’t watch a video with music in the background. As I have mentioned a couple of times, I think your videos are great.
On my newer videos I have dealt with the audio problems. Unfortunately, now that the video is up, I can't change the audio file. If youtube would let me, I would be happy to replace the audio, but I don't seem to find a way to do that sorry.
THANK YOU FOR THE EXCELLENT VIDEO….VERY, VERY GOOD…BUT…PLEASE…TURN DOWN THE LOUD BACKGROUND MUSIC OR SWITCH TO SOMETHING MORE SERENE. IT RUINS WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH ( I Use caps to make a point ). It’s like teaching your students with a broken air conditioner running in the classroom!!😢😢
Hey Mark thanks for the feedback. As you might see in my newer Dorico videos I no longer use the background music because the overwhelming majority of people decided they didn’t want that in the video. I was just trying to keep it from being too dry.
😀 THANK YOU, David! 🎶

Excellent, David! Thanks so much!
You are welcome

Thank you. I was so surprised people did not want the background music. I sort of thought it made things boring. 😉
You can use select more for chord symbols. Select a chord symbol and press cmd+shift+a
Great tip, thanks
Thank you SO MUCH for this. I'm finishing up my first big band chart in Dorico and this video saved the day! Much appreciated.
You are welcome
Excellent! I've changed all my MA's to ma. Exactly what I opened this video for!
You are welcome.

Thanks for the kind words. Guess the votes are in and the background music is out. 😉
If you select one chord symbol and then use the select more (Shift Cmd A) then you can select just chords
is there a way to display, say, Nashville style symbols in one instrument and default style symbols in another instrument?
Yes I believe so. I am on a road trip currently so I can give you details tomorrow
Another great video, but again the music is very distracting.

Good tutorial but please turn down the music so we can focus on the information....

Great video but please cut the music.
