    I was born and raised in TaiShan for 9 years before moved to NYC.
    Missed the food there

    Was it really straight forward to book a hotel in the mainland? I've heard from other folks that it can be a pain for non-Chinese citizens when it comes to hotels

      If you use booking services like trip.com, the hotels you find there will always (pretty sure) accept foreigners. I think the challenge is when you are going around to places where few foreigners go, and you don't book online. Then you'll probably run into hotels that don't know how to register foreigners so they take the easy way out by rejecting foreigners.
