    you are so right . there is no BEST way to do anything . me - i am old . i owned analog gear , multiple multiple tape machines . i also hurt my back . this changed things for me. i use digital . its the only way i am able to work at this point in my life as i deal with intense chronic pain , mobility issues .etc . people would do well to treat others respectfully . not speak in blanket statements . its not a competition . just because you do things one way does not make it better . if you haved arrived on the mountain top , good for you - keep it to yourself . we are all on the same team . its not a contest .

      "we are all on the same team" exactly! I think a lot of the folks on the forums forget this. So many 'great' artists I like have records that were recorded like absolute trash! I still love em to death though.

    Reverse reverb is actually quite common in a lot of music. You usually only use it at the very beginning of a verse or chorus or whatever. Kinda like a riser that smooths out the beginning of a phrase where the vocals would otherwise start too suddenly. Very useful trick for producers and mixing engineers. Btw, love the single! You capture that raw garage rock feel perfectly.

    The Bram Stoker book is actually really good. While I loved the Bela Lugosi movie, it is missing much of the original detail.

    One of my fall time fave tape effects. As soon as I opened this video I thought "hope he tried it with that Space echo!" Ramping the speed up as it gets closer to the intro of the vocal can be excellent crescendo to intro effect.

    • @Mario_DiSanto
      @Mario_DiSanto  8 місяців тому +1

      Hell yeah that's exactly what I did for the intro to the song! I originally wanted to do a delay similar to the "obsessed" vocals in Meglomania but that must have been done with a digital delay of some sorts because the Space Echo instantly turned my vocals to a self oscillating mess.

    High quality tape is has so much resolution and quality that digital just doesn’t have. Yes flac can get extremely close, analog is what I grew up on and respect people who can use it effectively and the ones that didn’t for years.

    Mario, personally I love using this effect every chance I get. It can really spice up some vocals when used right, but I find it really has it's own beautiful sound when applied to an instrument. In most of my tracks you can hear a rhythm track with it, and I usually use it for some guitar tracks with the effect itself only slightly pronounced, and other times in full. But I also found that this effect can be used with any instrument with the right context as well. And before I kind of "accedentally discovered" this effect, I would always listen to songs that utilise this effect (ex. drum track on Pink Floyd's "Echoes", and 5:35 in from the start of Led Zeppelin's "You Shook Me") and wondered how it was done. How I actually found out how to do this, it was initially an accident: I was messing around with some reversed foley effects and added reverb, and in the final mix I forgot I reversed the foley section and re-reversed it and got this effect. It sounded so cool I ended up keeping it in the final mix instead of reversing it like I initially wanted it to be...
    I always enjoy listening to your tracks man, and watching your videos. Always inspires me to at least get up and make some music.

    Hey man, I came across and watched a lot of your videos this weekend and have really been enjoying them! As someone who sometimes gets bogged down and hyper self-critical of the music/recordings I'm making, it was a breath of fresh air. Your enthusiasm for recording is infectious and really reminds me of why I started making music in the first place: it should be fun! It is fun! Your zeal for recording combined with brief humble/self-conscious moments, really make you come across as genuine and relatable. Anyway, just wanted to send some positive vibes your way (ha, even if I am a lowly DAW user!) -- Keep up the videos and music coming!

      Good guess! That’s exactly what it is. Physically in great condition, was very cheap. Everything was stuck, have lubricated it and got it working. Rewind belt is missing, will buy one. Left channel from tape circuit (vs source) does full volume buzz and pegs VU meter, maybe a transistor in that stage. Other channel sounds clear and Hi-Fi once heads were cleaned so it’s got some life left in it. @@CyrielBouckaert

    Interesting video and I'm only 1:11 in. Why did you wet the bed? I just realized that in that last sentence all the words have 3 letters in them. One syllable each. My brain wanders too much. Who's your favorite producer guy by chance?

    • @Mario_DiSanto
      @Mario_DiSanto  8 місяців тому +2

      The reason I wet the bed is because I like to hold in my pee ALL day before I go to sleep because I secretly like the feeling of when you are in a dream and you start peeing and it feels amazing and then you wake up and you're like "ahhh shit this is real life man I just wet the bed". Then I go into my mom's room and tug at her blanket until she awkwardly wakes up and gives me a clean set of sheets. Duhhh?? Why even ask a silly question like that.
      I don't have many favorite producers as I really don't know many truthfully. I would say George Martin but I think that's kinda cheatin' right? Quincey Jones is definitely up there. Love the simplicity of Sam Phillips stuff too.

    Hi Mario
    A general question about Tascam parts. Do you know what bulbs you need to replace the indicator lights on the Function remote for you MS16? Have you ever needed to replace one? I’m hoping my bulbs never go out but with the age of these recorders, it’s going to happen. There seems to be a lot of info on the VU meter bulbs but none on the function remote. Thanks!!!

    • @Mario_DiSanto
      @Mario_DiSanto  8 місяців тому

      I have no idea! I always assumed those were LEDs, are they not? Shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement for bulbs anyway. Some retrofitting with a series resistor is sometimes necessary to drop the voltage down.
