    That Altec is a Heavy Mud Demon. Really dark. I like it. Super puffy compression that sounds like someone dropped the guitars into a swimming pool filled with feather pillows every time the kick hits. Rad chunk of gear.

      Since this video, when I do use this unit now, I have the Treble knob slightly in the (+) because it definitely sucks a bit of the high end out of the mics.

    I think the Guitar sounds great on the raw version, way more bottom end which is helping make up for not having a Bass, that’s the one I’d go with. Cool track btw, I really enjoyed it! 🎸🥁

      Yeah I don't think I necessarily disagree. There's pros and cons to each version, raw and processed.

    I actually kinda like what the eq did to the snare, a little colour & character. Me and my mate used to do recordings like this back in the 90s. It was one mic onto tape too but not by choice 😁

    I really enjoyed it . I think the vocals could have been louder in the mix . But who am I to say . Mario , have you experimented with recording vocals in different parts are the house ? I think I found a cool spot in mine . I have a basement and as I was walking up the steps singing I noticed so cool reflections . It's hard to explain but right as you walk down the steps the walkway opens up . Like walls on each side you can touch then halfway down it opens up . Sorta like a short tunnel . It is a fine mix of that deadness in a closet and open room reflections . Growing up bands tried so hard to get professional sounding recordings at a home DIY studio . I was 18 in 1998 and my gf at the time was in band with me . She lived in a old Victorian style farmhouse that had huge rooms . Playing live always sounded great but trying to capture that with a cheap 4 track and a dynamic mic was almost impossible . Plus , this was before the internet was in every home (small town) and DIY was not promoted like it is today . The mission was "go to a real studio" . Knowing what I know now at 43 , I could pull it off . IMO knowing a band recorded their music at home makes me more interested . I think bands are more intrigued to try something unconventional . Our local professional record studio is a school called the Recording Workshop . It was like $35-40/hr . So you had to recorded & mix and print a CD the day off . If you wanted to make changes to the mix a day after you were more likely SOL . They erase the session for space . Nowadays you can record and take the mix home with you and make changes . Doing this with a 4 track was possible . Record a couple track at one place and record another at your place . Drums were always the hardest to record lol . I wish I had this current technology back in my day by golly !! LOL . But being able to record at home with no pressure of studio charging you , that helps you relax and created and try stuff . Keep Rockin brother Mario !!

      I ran vocals through my valve JR and recorded that in my bathroom. That's about as ballsy as I have gotten

    This great and I get the "all on one track in the spirit of fun and experimentation"
    BUT TBH, I think it'd be really cool to use that Altec with all it's tone and compression with a few more mics for just the drums and record that de-tuned guitar to it's own track. It'd give some more flexibility in the mix and still be old school and funky. Props for going it raw tho!

    So to get a result you liked better, trying a similar setup but dialingout that 500hz or whatever it was at the amp and then you could keep the snare weight? I didn’t have headphones. How did the bass amp do for low end response?

    • @Mario_DiSanto
      @Mario_DiSanto  5 місяців тому +1

      Bass amp is great for adding a little oomph to the guitar signal. I have done this on a couple songs where I really wanted to the guitar to be beefy and in yer face.
