This was when the Beatles first came to America in Feb. 1964. There were 728 seats at the theater but 50,000 requests for tickets. They had a record-breaking 73 million television viewers which translates to 45% of the households that owned televisions in America were tuned into this performance. During the week of April 4, the Beatles held the top five positions on the Billboard Top 100 music chart; a record that has never been broken.
I remember that about the top 5 positions on the Billboard charts. (Showing my age). Unbelievable but true.

This was originally broadcast on February 9, 1964. Almost anyone in my generation can tell you that date -- when most of the USA first met The Beatles -- the night the whole world changed! 🥰
I was a teenager working as a soda jerk at Tastee Freez. My boss, who lived in a mobile home next to Tastee Freez, gave me a few minutes off work so I could come over and watch the show (there were no means of taping the show for later).
In this 1st Appearance on Ed Sullivan , the night Rock Music changed for ever, the Beatles are the 1st Rock Group to actually play LIVE on TV..No studio Musicians or lip sync

You have no idea what it does to us old-timers to watch ourselves through you -- reacting the same way we did almost 60 years ago. Great songwriting and performances lasts many lifetimes! Just enjoy the fact that you're living in the same world as Paul and Ringo, with John and George (and manager Brian Epstein and producer George Martin) looking down at their legacy.

Looking back 58 years it is very difficult, almost impossible appreciate the impact these guys had on Rock&Roll. First, you would have to listen to bunch of music that was being played on the radio PRIOR TO The Beatles coming on the scene. Only then can you have an idea of how the whole direction of music changed because of these seemingly 'simple' songs here. You have to listen to early Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Little Richard, Bill Hailey, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Chuck Berry. The Beatles brought a sound, chord changes with modulations from major to minor keys and then back again! The Beatles also was the first major group to start writing their own songs.
Other artists watched them and thought: "We can do that too!"
Big Beatles Fan here. Perhaps the one exception to the Beatles being the "first band to write their own songs" would be the Beach Boys - they started nationally with Surfin' Safari 1962 etc. But the Beatles had major impact beyond the Beach Boys.
I saw this show on Ed Sullivan and all anyone wanted to talk about the next day in school was the Beatles. They helped change so much in music, fashion and Pop Culture, you can't imagine how crazy Beatle mania was, it was historic for sure. Try Taxman, Tomorrow Never Knows and She Said, classics off of Revolver. Enjoy! 🎸
Again, I think it is hard to imagine now the impact these guys had when they hit America and the world.
This performance and time period is basically when they became a phenomenon in the states. And it hit like a tidal wave. It is like the country was in a place post Elvis that was ready for this to happen.
Think about this and how America was at the time:
This was still barely out of the 50s. A time in which the nation was still pretty much straight up reserved and kids were never to talk back to their parents. Or at least the majority. Pretty much white bread conservative tone to the country.
Kids got a taste of rebellion and freedom with Elvis and the first rock n roll movement. But then Elvis went into the army, Buddy Holly died and other big names seemed to have faded into the background. Rock n Roll was replaced with very vanilla type music in the early 60s. Everything toned down again. Rock n roll seemed dead in many ways.
Then in November of 1963 the first big nation changing event of modern times hit.
The President Of The United States was shot and killed.
It is unthinkable now, but then? Totally unthinkable and unimaginable.
It placed the seeds of doubt in our nation and that along with the beginning of the Vietnam War became the seeds of a rather depressed nation and kids who were primed and ready for an escape. The entire nation was really.
The Beatles hit at just the right time for youth in the United States to let all their emotions out, place a musical loyalty and fanaticism that hadnt been seen since Elvis.
This combined with the mystery of the foreign, harmonies and chord structures not seen in music before quite like these boys did (and they were literally still boys. All in their early 20s experiencing this unbelievable fame not experienced by a band ever before) and their charisma tipped teenagers right over into straight up hysteria.
Even the look of all four seemed to fit together when they are observed. Like a four headed monster of rebelliousness (John), cuteness (Paul), quietness (George) and silliness (Ringo). These guys really had it all and had it all by a huge margin. Then you take into account the incredible songwriting skills. Truly a unique situation that will never happen again.
Think about this:
On the chart dated April 4, 1964 (thats 3 months after this Ed Sullivan appearance), the Fab Four (The Beatles) monopolized the top five (thats all five top positions!) on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the only time one act has ever to locked up the region.
That would be like Beyonce or Eminem or whoever the big name is currently having 5 songs as the best in the nation all at once for weeks. Wrap your head around that. 1-5 of the best songs were all Beatles songs. That is how crazy people, especially the youth, were about them.
A little side note:
When the Beatles performed live in concert for the first time in America it was in Washington. The clean up crew after the concert said that they literally had to...ok this kind of weird and gross but just making a point of how crazy kids were about The Beatles... clean up pee from the seats where the girls got so hysterical that they pee'd in themselves lol. Thats how crazy popular these guys were.
That is why it was literally called "Beatlemania" People were going nuts for this group like no one had ever seen before or since.
George Harrison of The Beatles once said later at the time when U2 were considered the biggest band in the world:
"They(U2) should go back and look at some of the video footage from The Beatles concerts if they want to see what its like to really be famous"
Even George realized this. And he was reserved usually on his thoughts concerning The Beatles and anything but a braggart.
The Beatles as far as popularity, talent, songwriting etc were simply in another universe compared to anyone else. Again, I think it is difficult to imagine now. But looking at the numbers helps one realize "Wow, unbelievable"

On this first appearance and Americans finally getting to see them live (remember there were no cell phones, no computers to look up recorded concerts, no anything really) ...
73 million people gathered in front their TV sets to see The Beatles' first live performance on U.S.
Now that may not seem like alot of people now, but then it was. That was HALF the people in the USA with TVs watching this band. It caused a tidal wave of mania for this group that had never happened before or since. And never will again.
Remember again this was the early 60s and there wasnt really a huge rebellious generation gap in which teens were hooked into music as a message that spoke to them and awoke a certain independence. For good or for bad this was the beginning or at least the revival on an entirely different level of this independent "we are not our parents" attitude.
So even culturally/socially the Beatles made this huge impact like a rock n roll atomic bomb going off.
Much to explore about this band. But that gives a bit of perspective on how big they were and became.
One final note, one of the more interesting things to realize is how much their music changed in such a short time period.
Remember they were only a band for about 7 yrs. Short time period really. But check out different popular songs from each year they were a band. The progression will blow your minds.
The Beatles were simply the greatest pop group of all time by not just a small margin. No one has or ever will surpass them in their achievements and their absolutely crazy popularity. Nor in their combined talents for songwriting.

one of those 73 million that night! I was 16 on Feb 9, 1964 for this Ed Sullivan Show, and I turned 17 one month later on March 9th (my 75 birthday is coming up ) and I was bitten with "Beatlemania" and NEVER recovered from it, and never will. They are the soundtrack of my life! OH and the Beatles were a band for longer than 7 years . They became recording artists in early 1962 with their first charted hit "LOVE ME DO" and all the way through 1970 when they broke up, so that is 8 years. But before that they were a local band in Liverpool in since Paul met John on July 6, 1957 then adding George, Stu Sutcliffe and Pete Best. We in the U.S. only became aware of them the last few weeks of 1963 when "I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND" was released, but 1964 was when the US really got into them. So actually they were a band from 1957 (before that with John in the Quarrymen) through 1970, that's 13 years.
When Paul sang "....well, she was JUST 17, you know what I mean..." that night I felt like he was singing to me since I was turning 17 exactly one month later. I am sure every other 17 year old girl felt the same that night! Whenever I watch Paul sing this or hear it, I get the same feeling I didn that night and turn right back into that 17 year old teenager I was back in 1964. Even now, watching them watch this video ( I feel bad for those who couldn't see it, IF they have never seen that video of the Ed Sullivan Show) I was up dancing around my living room. It is IMPOSSIBLE for me to just sit still to that song, or ANY rocking song, I have to MOVE, even if it's just in my chair. But "I Saw Her Standing There" is such a GREAT DANCE SONG!!!
I don't particularly LIKE being 75 years old soon, but I wouldn't trade it for being young NOW and MISSING that great decade of the 1960s and Beatlemania, the British Invasion and all the other GREAT music that came out of the 1960s! It was the decade that saw the most changes in music, hair and clothing styles, etc. From pretty much '50s style clothing in the early 60's, to the mod Beatle look , mini skirts in the mid '60s to the flower child and hippy look, psychedelic colorful clothes and all us young people had long long hair, male and female. Just in 10 years.
About a million people went and picked up guitars and drums after seeing the Fabs perform...tremendous impact, almost incalculable!

You got to remember that this was the early start of "heart throbs " that sang love songs to girls and got a little wild because don't forget it was not like today this was special for the day to see them in person. Still the greatest band of all time IMO, most of today's musicians wouldn't sound as good as a garage band if they were to use the equipment from that era. After the seventies it seems technology went up the talent went down decade after decade

Life With Recklezz, The Beatles were highly influenced by Black Rock & Roll (Chuck Berry, Little Richard, The Shirelles), Rockabilly (Carl Perkins), and Rock & Roll (Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran). Groups like the Animals, Manfred Mann and The Rolling Stones, were more into Chicago Blues (John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Howlin' Wolf, Slim Harpo, etc.), Black Rock & Roll (Sam Cooke, Solomon Burke). Check out the Animals version of "I'm Mad Again", Manfred Mann's "Hoochie Coochie Man" and The Rolling Stones "Little Red Rooster". You'll definitely hear the R&B influence. But just about every British Invasion band was highly influenced by music from this side of the Atlantic regardless of the genre. Check out the August 15th, 1965 Shea Stadium concert. There were 56,000 + fans in attendance. You wanna hear something loud? Check this out. Great reviews. Keep up the good work. Fun fact: The Beatles were seen by 73,000,000 plus viewers this night and another 52,000,000 the following week.

I remember being mesmerized watching the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan show. My taste in music was instantly transformed forever. I saw them live in St. Louis in 1966. The girls were still screaming but it was really cool seeing the Fab Four live. We also saw McCartney live over 40 years later and he was still rockin' it. I remember that we had a hard time hearing them due to all the screaming and their faces showed they were beyond ecstatic as was all of America! I was 8 back then. The Beatles have some beautiful music from the early years that their voices just blend so well, the harmonies. For instance THIS BOY, LOVE ME DO, CHAINS….many many more. OH DARLING from 1969 is a badass one.
The Beatles were just fun, especially early on. They were like Elvis, only as a group. Plus, the Beatles were more innovative than any other band in history. It’s just a fact.

I will never forget the Beatles and watching this on Sunday night with my cousins. You have to appreciate that in those days Motown and Rock were just coming into their own. THE BEATLES had LONG HAIR my folks used to tell us. lol. You had to be there to really appreciate what those times were like and how unique and different this was.
Just remember it is both of your reactions, not how others want to see your reactions, in the end be true to yourselves in all you do, and be humble yet confident because we are all here for a short time and all have frailties and insecurities and strengths yet unaware, so treat all with good karma and light spirits through your journey and peace may be found within, IMO.

Aside from the copyright difficulties the best way for someone new to completely understand the Beatles impact is to listen to the music chronologically rather than skip around, watch live performances, and watch a Hard Days Night. To jump from I Want to Hold Your Hand right into Helter Skelter or the Abbey Road Album is jus way out of context how music changed over 5-6 short years. And like someone said here listen to music between 1959 and 1963 to catch how different it was before the Beatles. The Beatles early on had impact beyond just the music....it was the looks...esp long hair. NOBODY wore long hair, and the parents reacted negatively as in "Get a haircut, evil doers, a communist plot to overthrow and brainwash our youth, etc" [remember, this was still during the cold war era, JFK had just been assassinated less than 2 months before]. Also the clothes they wore, the collarless suit jackets, the Beatle Boots, plus their personalities as seen in interviews, very humorous as in Q- "How did you find America?" John Lennon: "Turned left at Greenland." That kind of stuff. In the beginning in February 1964, The American press was trying to nail them, trying to trap them in a negative light, and they fought right back with humor, turned the a whole interview upside down, and won them over.
Fun fact: even the criminals took a break during this broadcast of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. It was documented in crime statistics in multiple US cities that there was a significant drop in activity when the Beatles were performing. I was nine years old and my life changed for the better from that point on. Best band on the planet! 🌺✌️

There is a debate going on about whether reactions to music videos should be blocked. A lot of musicians probably don't mind because it gives them exposure to new fans. I suspect it's the money counters in suits at the corporate offices that don't want to lose the royalties that they connived from the artists.
Anyway, keep doin' what you're doin' Recklezz, we still enjoy it.

I don't know who's complaining about the transparent videos but they're either dumb or stupid. I think most of us got into watching reaction videos during lockdown. If we've watched anyone else we know the drill. Every reactor I've watched was threatened with their channels being taken down, etc., because of copyright. So they do what they can and their videos evolve over time to have wording over the videos or transparency or any kinds of tricks that can get around blocking.
It's hard for me to believe that anyone is watching your videos and it's the first reaction video they've ever watched. Even if it was, a normal person in the world understand that there is such a thing as copyright and using someone else's music, movies, etc., can get you into trouble. In my opinion, whoever is giving you a hard time is just a troll who knows exactly what they're doing. They want you to get pissed and respond. They live off that sh*t. So starve them by ignoring them.

Multiple people have claimed Beatles shows were known for their urine. Notably, John B. Lynn, son of the owner of a venue The Beatles played, told The Washington Post that the concert hall smelled like the pee of over-excited girls after the show. After the shows they would have to wipe the seats and mop the floors.

Yeah, it's so disappointing,fu__ing UA-cam! Watching the musicians means more and it's a plus to watch people react to them. We've always watched the musicians on UA-cam it's better than just hearing them,so when reactors came along that's never heard or seen the musicians it was cool to see reactors appreciate the music and be open to a new genre.No,seeing it before isn't always true .There's so many different performances,
videos, the live one's.
It makes it seem like reactors are just doing what is easy and aren't really interested in the music. Just saying ! I know UA-cam targets people. When you're on their radar you have to code you're name ,titles to songs. Switch things up so the bots can't track. Use different nick names,Titles to songs. Bots are programs, not real people,lol, unless your extra to them. I know you have pull people by the titles,but people can see your picture. If you think of something new,it could help alot of reactors. The bots are always,getting programmed to censor . changing. Your a smart dude,It's all in the words. You talk about repressive ,UA-cam is making it harder and harder to get ahead. They're dicey on purpose.
You're doing great for sure! You put up something for everyone,one of a kind channel . Usually everyone puts things on different channels. They'd be copying you ,except you put in the time . They do 3 songs ,maybe and they're done. Also a lot of reactors don't know but some of the lyric videos don't have same beat or sound cause they don't know what the song ever sounded like. Lyrics can be rushed songs,or sound karaoke. Brad and Lex puts up lyrics all the time,well mostly Brad wants the lyrics. Brad finely took Lexi to a concert,Tool! So so proud of him ,he's kind of a stick in the mud,but Lexi is fun.
