I Like the new design for the capture plate. After purchasing V2 and using it in Paris this last fall, I snagged my hand on it giving quite the gash. The new design looks a lot more rounded and refined.
If you're running out of ideas there are always all kinds of duffel bags and travel bags to expand to!! I think you would do great with them too

For anyone reading this, get the everyday backpack. Best carrying thingy I ever purchased. Absolutely so.
My capture pro clip still work after 2 years in mud, sand, salt and water but it is in really bad shape. I will get this new version as soon as it hit the shelves here in Canada.

Slightly worried it might be too narrow for some of my packs, but its a Peak Design Kickstarter so I'm in! And no tripod screw thread on the capture? I do use the Capture pro as a quick release mount on a few tripods, so sad you have done away with that feature. Oh well! Still the order is in!
Yep it’s too narrow for my commonly used backpacks. It would be nice to see multiple widths in this new design.

A Slide without the padding would probably make me part with some money. I find the padding does very little but gets in the way when packing the camera in a case, or just stuffing the strap in a pocket if unclipped from camera.
I find rolling the slide the best way to stow it.

You guys at Peak Design need to offer or include your long screws (for thick : belts, straps and pro belts) with your Capture clips which most people do not know about. I don't know why this is something that's not mentioned or featured more by your company. How I found out is by need and I thought: let me see if Peak Design offers longer screws. I did a Google search and it popped right up, but it's not an obvious option on your site.This would help a lot when making decisions between your product and the competition.
Hi Vaughn, with Capture V3, we are INCLUDING Hex Bolts which are longer and are the equivalent to the Long Bolts which were sold separately see the campaign at www.pkdsn.com/ks

We've probably somewhat missed the boat on that one with the release of Capture V3, but we certainly should be making noise about the fact they are now included and increase usability. - Point well made and taken, thank you!
The end is epic
First time customer, just got a couple of captures and plates, and the Lens kit also. Great ideas, good looking, but a bit loose? I'm talking about the interface between the lens/plates and the capture itself. I find they all rattle, a lot. They also, with such a small load bearing point flop about and dangle. Perhaps it's the retired military in me, not wanting things to flop about or create excessive profiles but I think the infacing could be gauged tighter.
Oh, the capturelens... tbh I have trepidations in having two, let alone one expensive lenses flipping about from this piece of plastic.

So why remove the tripod screw for the backplate?
Not that it's needed, but have you considered a trade in program for older gear? I see that BlackRapid has that program and it sounds like a cool idea. Considering the new plates aren't compatible with the older clips, it'd be nice to have a way to bring everything up to current compatibility.
Hi there, very few people used the Tripod screw and in order to streamline the overall design, it was decided to remove the tripod screw (also focusing on a single Capture Clip to simplify the messaging).
The New Dual Plate is backwards compatible with the V2 Clips and anchors are interchangeable, so it really is just the New Standard Plate which is not Backwards compatible due to the reduction in the Height of the Plate, and it will be possible to purchase the Capture Clip without the plate moving forward if you already have a bunch of current plates.
I love the tripod screw feature though. It offered so many different unexpected opportunities while I was shooting.

Does the new Slide lock into place? Cause the only thing I don’t like about mine is that it doesn’t actually lock into place/the latch doesn’t seem to serve a purpose imho
Can I use tripod while having the capture plate on?
The Capture Plate is ARCA compatible, whilst the Dual Plate is ARCA and Manfrotto RC2 Compatible, so you can go straight from Capture to tripod.
But my last capture plate has a tripod hole in the back so I could connect it to the top of the tripod and then use it as a mount. But the new V3 looks like it doesn't have a hole! Is that right?
wouldn't the narrower Capture V3 have issues clamping onto wider straps and belts?
The new Capture clip fits belts up to 2.5" wide, whereas the old clip fit straps up to 3" wide. In our research, the new Capture still fits 95%+ of backpack straps and belts out there. And for the vast majority of straps that are 2" or slimmer, the new Capture clip is substantially more comfortable to wear because of it's lower-profile dimensions and rounded edges.
Does the slide now "lock" when the clamp is down or is it still just for easier adjustment?
No Lock on Slide now, but the co-moulded hardwear means we have been able to squash that issue and retain easy adjustment.
Will we be able to buy the Capture screws with the hex in the head separately? I have wanted those since I got my first Capture (I now have 3) years ago.
Hi Joshua, the clamping bolts with Hex Heads will be available to purchase once the products are launched. The thread on the Capture Bolts is M5 if you'd rather use simple Bolt Heads, I've heard of it being done.
How do you choose color on kickstarter for your pledge? Is that going to be a survey type of thing later on?

In the weeks following Nov. 10th we will send every backer a survey. In that survey you will tell us which specific items you want to add on to your reward. You will also have the chance to add Peak Design products to your reward that are not in the Add-On Menu (see the next FAQ). You will give us your shipping details at that time.

so all these new things do the old things work with the new thing or are the old things toast now ?
We'll not be producing the older stock, but if you have them, they'll still work great.
There are only two items which are not compatible between V2 and V3, the V2 POV kit due to the removal of the Plate Lock will not work in Capture V3 and the Standard plate from Capture V3 will not work in Capture V2 due to the reduced height of the plate.
Apart from that, old and new anchors are interchangeable and everything else still works great.
I bought a capture v3 and I want to know if I add on a everyday backpack will the backpack cost go down?

Did you guys remove the UNC thread in the v3?
We did remove the 1/4 20 thread from the back of Capture, a very under-utilized feature and allowed us also to remove the Plate Lock and reduce the footprint of the unit. Does the previous Pro Plate work with the V3?
Yes it does.
Does this capture v3 work mimic Manfroto plates like the capture v2 pro did?
The New Dual Plate is compatible with RC2 Tripods by Manfrotto, this doesn't require the adapters used with the ProPlate and is compatible with a greater range of heads.

Will there come a pro version (with a bigger surface) of the capture v3?
No plans to create a larger footprint plate at this stage. The Dual Plate has a larger footprint, but is two way compatible with Capture due to the geometry to be compatible with Manfrotto RC2 tripod heads.
Peak Design Video thanks for the answer! The dual plate is not an option for me because I use my pro plate with a arca ballhead. Guess I'll stick to the v2 for the moment maybe in te future you guys will release a arca plate with a bigger surface. None the less keep up the good work. (happy owner of the messenger 15 bag, 30l backpack, slide and capture pro)
The Dual Plate is still ARCA compatible though, hence my suggestion, but hey, see how you go. Thanks for your support.

We've been able to launch new Cuff, Leash, 5L Sling and various additional colors of bags already this year.
Having been launched by Kickstarter, we enjoy engaging with the community and it helps us to continue to develop the next products which is an expensive business. It's as much about the next products in someways as it is the current.
