remind me, isnt tiktok literally a music app?? isnt there a music note in its logo?? wasnt it called musically?? doesnt its main form of content revolve around audio and music?? itd be pretty weird if music wasnt found on that app tbh

@@cloudysaturnn i strongly believe tiktok, even though it may be a music or audio based app, has done more harm than good to music in general. from concert etiquette being absolutely demolished, fan toxicity, putting artists on an uncomfortable pedestal, people only listening to the 15 second clips of songs, the consumerism that comes with microtrends in music, artists having to adapt to the 15 second mark to catch the audiences attention, etc. i also in this case mainly mean the misinterpretation of music that happens on the app, the overplaying, the stripping of the meaning, and the toxicity that comes with a song going viral in there. im open to new fans, however, i think there should be a bit of respect for the piece itself, for the artist. i also want to point out the boxes people put all content on the app in, i mainly want to focus on self proclaimed “sad girls”. the “sad girl music” (MISTKI, lana del rey, fiona apple, phoebe bridgers, marina, etc..) originated from tiktok users romanticizing sadness, not only reduces the artists work into a box, it also GREATLY damages the artist. (tortured artist phenomenon, the belief that an artist has to hurt to make good art). Mitski herself has spoken about this exact thing, and also how it makes her uncomfortable how people idolize her and put her on a pedestal, she is a person like us, after all. she just found a way to express herself in music which resonated with people.
