  • Northern Ontario is littered with these single lane logging roads. There's no road signs or maps. If you're not careful, you could end up getting hopefully lost.
Not so much the case with this road. This logging road acts as a service road between the Wakami Lake dam and the Sultan Road, just east of the campground area of Wakami Lake Provincial Park.
The area is 665 kilometres north of Toronto, 250 KM northeast of Sault Ste. Marie and 70 KM southeast of Chapleau.

I hiked around Wakami Lake in 2006. On the way there I decide to take a logging road to goes from 144 (it's 560 going East to Gowanda from 144, but a logging road going West); about mid way through a logging truck heading east signals to me to stop. The driver informs me the road is washed out just west of me, and he just made it through, but wasn't sure if I'd be able to. I continued on anyway, and when I came to the wash out I hugged the road to as far right as possible, where it was the most shallow, and just made it through. Some cool road up that way for sure

The first time we went to Wakami that's the road we took - who says you can't feel isolated in Ontario! Beautiful area - I believe they call it the Sultan Road..
