Sorry, next to impossible to give a definitive answer on which one is the best, it is purely down to subjective preference. Which ever one you choose, they are all built really well.
All watches are built well to a high standard. They use reliable movements and finishing on every aspect is as good as each other.
- Octopus has smallest size and best bezel rotation, but has a ghost position on the PT5000
- The Seestern has a nicer logo and text on dial, bezel is loose but a very nice bracelet.
- The IX&DAO has no ghost position on the PT5000, has a 60 click bezel but just fits so well on wrist and provides a better clasp!

After a bit of research I ordered myself the IXDAO last night directly from the Thorn website. This week Thorn also released a P39. From what I could tell between the four the IX was the clear choice as it’s nearest to the true P39. I cant wait for it to arrive.

That was an extremely well put together review. Could not imagine the hours you put in. The IX was my favorite after the final video. It really looks the business. I got the IXDAO when it first released. I love the PT5000 movement. Im guessing that papery winding sound comes from the smaller sprocket with more teeth or something of that sort. I love the 8 tick per second sweep, its very comfortable. I love it. I was glad the octopus kraken was sold out of the titanium bracelets which influenced my decision
Even before you got to your conclusion I was thinking that the IX&DAO was the one for me. What sold me was the shortest link lengths with sufficient thickness and large screws. I like short links because that allows for finer adjustment. Sorry Seastern but10mm is too long! Also I tend to prefer thick steel bracelets to balance watch head weight. I had an original Seiko turtle on a bracelet once and it wore terribly as the Seiko bracelet was so thin it made the bracelet too light which caused the watch head to flop around all over my wrist. I hated that so much that I had to flip it.

Absolutely fantastic three video review! It's a little too late for me because I bought the Seestern as soon as it came out but that's ok. I really enjoyed seeing the differences between the three watches. If I had to do it again I would probably still choose the Seestern but they are all so similar. I think any one of them would be a good choice.
For some reason I prefer the Octopus Kraken. To my eye the finishing looks best and the bezel rotation on such an affordable titanium watch impressed me. I may be biased because I own a different Octopus Kraken watch that's perfect and that I truly love.

I went for the Octopus Kraken when it was released. Great watch, amazing bracelet, great bezel action (albeit mine is slightly misaligned), but other than that and the slightly small clasp, I'm delighted with it.

I went with the ix purely because I think it is the closest to the watch it is paying homage too, but I think I would be happy with any of the three watches.

Funnilybenough, I saw reviews on the black dial FXD and something people mention there is that Tudor should've dropped the red text so, it looks to be a common issue on these styles with people
I'll likely get the Ix&Dao in new year unless I shift some of my current collection before that

Great review! In the end the gut should always win. I have the Seestern on the way from the 11.11 sale. It was too hard to pass up for $175.
The brand IX&DAO is a direct transliteration of Chinese 九纛
IX = 9
The Chinese character DAO was only used in ancient times
Nowadays, almost no one has read and pronounced it correctly.
It has the following three meanings:
1 A large flag decorated with yak tail or pheasant tail
2 Feathers held by dancers
3 The flag in the army.

I got my Seestern Titanium the other day with the new updated clasp.....Mine only had one hole where yours has two......but my single hole is in the new upper position....great review.

The markers for 12,3,6 and 9 on the IXDAO are a little shorter than they should be.

I have the new version of the clasp from Octopus, it is now longer and has 4 holes but the gap are is bigger than the old clasp.
I just got mine & have the same 4 micro-adjust clasp but a big gap too. I'm not sure if the Seestern style extra hole modification would work on the Octopus as the clasp has a cranked piece that may interfere if mounted higher.
Can you tell me the width of the center link for the Octopus Kraken?

You can almost cross Octopus off the list. I ordered mine about 5 weeks ago, they still have not shipped. They replied saying that they do not know when or even if they can get ti bracelets.

idk.. seastern and octopus are screaming out,, "I am pretending to be an homage" instead of "I am trying to be an homage"😅... they should have utilized their logos more rather than name branding, imo
I have the Ix & Dao as it has the better name and the dial looks good. Very comfortable watch for travelling and daily piece with a decent clasp. I dont like the name Octopus Kraken
With your engineering background and strict approach to reviews. If you say IXDOA is best - then that is it. I have the eta version on order now. It will be my daily wearer so I will be stuck with it for a long time. IXD use metal movement holders as well which shows they are not cutting corners.

Tnx for the excellent comparison. I have a little question. The reviewer mentioned that the clasp on the Seestern was made of steel, however he seems to have forgotten to clarify the material of the clasps on the Ixdoa and the Octopus. Are they also made of steel or are they made of titanium?

I would go for the Kraken but the logo sticks out like a bulldog's doodahs.
the Pelagos has a 60 click bezel. these homages should do the same and use Grade 5 Ti. Even Tudor only uses Grade 2. MAybe Grade 5 is too hard to finish but they could at least use grade 3.
