- How South Korea is Emerging as Key Player in the Global Arms Market | Vantage with Palki Sharma
South Korea overtook Germany to secure a significant military contract with Australia. A total of 129 infantry-fighting vehicles costing up to $4.74 billion would be built in South Korea. This deal has been called "one of the largest projects in the history of the Australian army."
Is South Korea the next big thing in the global arms market? Palki Sharma decodes

This is an example of the classic story of the race between the Hare and the Tortoise. The Hare got cocky because he is much quicker than the turtle, but the tortoise is consistent. Eventually, the consistent tortoise outran the hare when the hare was sleeping. Korea is like the consistent tortoise 🐢.
But India is not even a turtle. it's a dead one, upside down. 'What to do? We are just like that only!' 😁
@@mcrand7887India is not a dead one it's you who can't see what's india is doing
@@coreanstacker5427 Any change with Korean ammo on Ukraine frontline so far? It's been 3 moths since counter-offensive.😂😂😂
Yes on consistency but SK is also fast. Blazing fast. Which is also its competitive edge. No weapons manufacturers can deliver the orders on time, it's almost expected that things will be delayed. SK has not only done it on time but ahead of schedule. That will be super hard to beat.
What South Korea did for its arms industry is something that India consistently fails to do for its own. DRDO needs to be broken down and sold off to private conglomerates while giving private companies tax breaks for increasing research in technology.
Can you believe Korea had just started developing in 1970's and where they are today. India can never reach that level even in next 100 years. 'What to do? We are just like that only!' 😁

@@Kingforever222 Forget 100 years, that's a long shot, nobody knows what's coming in next 2 years. Did anyone thought of pandemic months before? Now they (Globalist and big pharma's) are already planning man made more pandemics. They want control under the pretext of global health security. Wait until it comes your way Mr.
You also have to consider the fact that korea is not actually self reliant when it comes to defense, they are guaranteed security by US, so they can focus on niche but high paying "teeth" of defence technologies, while US supports with mundane logistics
India on the other hand has to develop everything by self, Korean arms are compatible with American ones mostly, whereas India has to do everything by itself,
and yes in recent times India understood the need for imports so stuff like jet engines and tank transmissions that it could not develop by self, it has started to import , just to speed up things
A world without wars, a world without terrorism, a world without drugs, a world without hunger. It will never happen but we can dream...!!!
THE WORLD NEEDS HINDUISM❤️ 👍🙏🕉️🙏👍❤️
Possible if military industry is stopped, because there's enough Nukes in the world today to keep wars from happening, or destroying the world, it only depends who will press the button first.
You arm yourself up and learn to fight and protect so you won't have to. Peace without pragmatic readiness to fight is like having equality in a communist country.
Congrats to SK.
Don’t compare Indian defense industry with that of Korea, cause the quality of it is totally different and much higher than that of India. In terms of industrial competent capability of R&D, India can’t compete with Korea. Korea is fifth largest R&D country in terms of quality and quantity.
Korea arm has high demand quality of technology, India arm still not compare with. That why Australia buy arm from South Korea.
It's also speed and focus. Indian development is painfully slow. And keeps changing plans along the way (blame the bureaucrats and politicians, etc) that by the time it finally arrives it's outdated, overpriced, and way below specs making it not frontline-ready.
South Korea has a very good work ethic.
So is Japan and China too. But India has this... called: 'What to do? We are just like that only!' 😁

Overall the Indian manufacturing needs to lift their game with better technology and practices to compete globally. Currently even African nations not interested in Indian technology apart from the few orders of Brahmos missiles. Koreans won the contract due to the superior quality of there product.
Brahmos, because of Russian joint tech help, Still Brahmos-II (Hypersonic) project is sleeping. 'What to do? We are just like that only!'
India also bought k9 from S.korea
Thanks to Poland for buying South Korean weapons.
Its resolve and lofty vision is fundamental for the enrichment of South Korea. Its rational decision in jmping in arms manufacturing and getting in sup chain.Surely it would florish as their work ethis and maintenace of qualty is paramount .
I am happy to read india is the leading arms importer in the world😂
I hope Indian bureaucrats, political class and military leaders learn few lessons from South Korea. Tax payers are fed up paying for defence imports.
If they do like this then, how can they steal money.
Hello! South Korean politicians and bureaucrats are as corrupt as any other countries and they have all graduated from US University of Corruption.
Bharat private sector should be involved in Defence manufacturing in a big way.

#japan and #india should learn from South Korea
India should not manufacture weapons for sale. Use it only for Defence. Share it with Allies.
The K9 vajra is also with India
There's problem with this news report, India isn't even top 10 Arms exporter for last 10 years, even last 2 years. India should aim at least becoming consumer product exporters first and then moved on to electronics and heavy industry even steel & metal alloys, and then move up to chain to establish Arm industry. Turkey is even beating India in arms sale.
South Korea defense industry is what India aspire to be but no one wants to buy Arjun MBT or Tejas.

What India needs is a heavy investment in R&D of defense products. India has giant military which can consume it's domestic weapons. By doing this, at some point, India will reach the tech-economy parity where India will be in a position to compete with three major benefits. #1 Proven technology and reference list, #2 Competitive pricing, #3 Licensing to manufacture at the country of import. You can not sell a tank or a fighter jet to a customer if your domestic military is not using them. This Hanwha redback IFV is not used by the Korean army but it's an upgrade version of K21 IFV which were mass produced and still in service with the Korean Army. India needs R&D to make it's own military confident and capable of using domestic weapons. Importing weapons especially a mixture of Chinese, Russian, Korean and US will only lead to more costs in the future. (considering spare parts, servicing, software upgrades..etc etc)
what 'war' do they intend to supply..
India needs to build hundreds of huge dams to attract global corporate plants. If water resources, electricity, ports, railways, and roads are poor, it is impossible to build overseas factories. India must quickly integrate into one official language and unify laws across the country. India should always have science and engineering above religion. And half of India's men need to get an industrial education.
meanwhile top brass of the state owned DRDO and other Indian PSUs will work hard to catch up with global defence sector players by ordering two more chai between their 9 to 5 routine jobs.
😂😂👍🏽

Appreciate this decision! Still their 18 months mandatory military service for men is not viable.
One country that also required mention as a tough competition is Turkey . May be you can do an article on emerging defence exporters and their comparative strengths … in arms , warships and aeroplanes
USA, Russia, China, Germany, France and South Korea are major arms supplier of the world.
- Poverty-stricken agricultural India still depends on foreign suppliers for all its weaponry
- The Indian air force is a collection of inventories from USA, France, UK, Russia and even Israeli drones

I'm a South Korean and the reason we keep developing arms is North Korea. While other countries concentrate on economics and others, we must keep spending money for arms per GDP. It's sad but true and reflects on arms exporting.
Same for India. China to North and Pakistan to the West.
Is the Korean fa50 battle tested? Is it comparable to SU25?
It is a supersonic (Mach 1.5) with 14,630 m service ceiling.
FA-50 Block 20
- AESA radar by Raytheon
- AIM 120 medium range air-to-air missile
- JSM anti-ship missile
- Korean version of Storm Shadow (little bit smaller), a long range air-to land bunker buster.
- KGGB (Korean 500 lb. gliding bomb. Max. range is 100 km)
The operational cost is just over 3,000 usd/hour. very low.
It is a light attack fighter and a trainer (two seats and the training simulator). But Block 20 has about 80% of the capability of the latest version of F-16. (F-16V 70/72) Poland and Malaysia bought Block 20, which will come out in about 2 years.
The ownership of this fighter is shardd between KAI and Lockheed Martin.

What hegemonic game lol ? We have nuclear Somalia and world's biggest land grabber as neighbours , we have massive trrism prblm , u guys lucky N.K doesn't do trrism on ur people .
I do not know about what India's game is. But you are absolutey right about Koreans. They have just tried to protect life, freedom and sovereignty in a very dangerous space.
Competitor of India.
South korea is a best example of a vassal state, though they didn’t had a choice back then in korean war. They had to chose a side. It was beneficial however. They’re now a developed state & provides a substitute for american weapons in affordable category being backed by American defence industry or contractors.
South Korea had a tight relationship with Russia before the onset of the Ukranian War. As a part of the Northern Expansion Strategy, S. Korea loaned money to Russia Federation. In return, Russia transfered military technology to S. Korea. In fact, S.Korea is the only country operating Abrams besides Russian Tigers. Even South Korea's first long-range rocket, succefully launched in 2022, uses Russian tech as well. Americans are not Saints; they are business people. They can help Korea for sure but they have no reason to turn Korea as their competitor.
But they will remain vassal state, take orders from their masters, What happened to 'sovereign state' with democracy and freedom? If they take over US industry than they will have problem like Japan did once, Germany now and China these days.
Actually, Israel and Japan fit for that description as America refused tech transfer to S.Korea, also U.S placed limits on S.Korea's rocket range, radar, cannot have bombers etc.. but U.S let Israel and Japan to access these. So stop painting the S.Korea being vassal state.
Anyone who dismisses Korea, Japan or other as a Vassal state don't know what he's talking about and dismissing them out of jealousy. Their foreign policy and geopolitical diplomacy is just as independent and sovereign. Just because India or China is bigger country and seems to go against the wishes of US time to time ( So does Korea many times) that doesn't make India or China immune from US centric world order or stepping too out of line that could warrant sanctions and other challenges. US is just as important of an economic and political partner to India or China as it is to Korea and rest of the world.
And to your point, no US is not giving tech transfers and support. That's what prompted Korea's weapon's industry to develop their own same as India. If US had their way, they'd make sure Korea is dependent on the US weapons which are getting insanely expensive not only to buy but to maintain and cannot even open up or take apart for repair without US permission. Would US want another competitor in a very lucrative weapons market where they take biggest pie? Hell no.
Just admit it, India's weapons industry sucks. It's inefficient, slow, bureaucratic, corrupt, and not innovative. This has always been a problem for India in manufacturing. India's good at software and service. Manufacturing no. Especially compared to even China or South East Asia.
@@Xentradi97 Bla bla bla bla, Slaves, US empire is crumbling.

India is way better than south korea in terms of defence technology & advance space technology, south korea is doing good but it's not enough as south korea lacks many areas ( like nuke weapons, anti satellite technology, drone technology, underwater attack uav technology, long range ballistic missile technology, supersonic & hypersonic missile technology etc) where USA Don't help them, even south korea can't defend its land against North Korea or China (look at korean war where USA helped south korea when south korea was defeated by north korea ) without US help
Unfortunately Indian technology is too advanced for other countries and for export market.
