If they had passed the production cost savings down to the consumer (by actually pricing the system accordingly), then it might have had a chance. But then again, its incompatibility with the add-ons was a big negative as well, so you never know.
Mr. Top Hat, Your Channel in it's Entirety, Is Brilliant!! Thank you for showing me more than I ever knew. I grew up in the early 1990's, and I am 41 years old. I have always liked the look of the Super Grafix, and I almost got a Duo back when they were on clearance.
Nice job using the Y's Books 1 & 2 Soundtrack during this vid! I think it's rather curious as to why they bothered to use a dumbed down expansion port on the back, as I can't imagine that reducing costs hardly at all. I mean why bother even including an expansion port at all if it's incompatible with the CD Add-On? Kind of a dumb move I think.
so the PC-Engine Shuttle was basically the Sega Genesis Model 3 of the PC-Engine Line but launched almost at the same time as the first model and for the same price in a low attempt by NEC to scam parents.
I almost got a PCES from a game store last year. Glad i didn't because of the non expandibility BUT the reason i didnt was they had a boxed super grafx for only $100 more. (shuttle was 100 for just system super was 200 with box which i wanna say was MAJOR lowball for both.) I've gotten so many scores there due to idiocy sadly unsurprisingly they recently went bust.
Hi joey. I do remember downloading and using a jaguar emulator literary year's ago and it was usable to an extent with most game's but sadly i can't remember the name of the emulator it's self. I wanted it so i could have a blast of AVP which i do own myself and just wanted to compare. Surprisingly it did run very very well aside's from you score number's getting screwed up lol but apart from that and one or two texture's missing it was really good, oh an at the time i was using a 32bit windows 7 PC lol's so im certain there'll be one out there much better now...remember google is your friend ???????????, so we used to think lol.
Well i don't know who gave me a like for my comment ? but if it was you Joey ? it's much appreciated m8👍, and if not ? it's appreciated to everyone all round to whom ever did it👍.... cheer's. I just realized though i didn't say thank you to Top Hat Gaming Man in my last comment for making this great video!...so thank you @Top Hat Gaming Man! and i really do appreciate all the work you put in to your content because i really do enjoy watching your video's! I'm from the 80's lol and luckily my older brother alway's has and still is into video game's and 9/10 he alway's had to have the newist console on the market regardless of price, so luckily i've been privileged to play some of the best console's and game's on the market up until this point, plus imho it's still definitely great to see so many people still interested in retro video gaming 😃!, and again with retro console's i was luckily enough to play on a PC-Engine that was imported by my brother's best friend "Baz". So when he "Baz" brought his PC-Engine around to show us "Me and my brother lol" and hooked it up to the TV it was just a WOW! factor for me and an experience i'll never forget! At the time we'd never seen ANYTHING like it at the time until my brother got a MegaDrive with Altered Beast as a packin with the console itself but he also bought a copy of Revenge of Shinobi and again at the age i was it was such an amazing experience for me just being there while he bought the MG and ROS!!!. Apologie's for going on a bit back there lol so back to the PC-Engine. I remember playing Splatterhouse for the first time and it was just incredible!!!....unbelievable!!! and nothing i'd ever seen before with all the blood an gut's an other stuff it was disgusting "but i loved it! 😉", also Ninja Spirit, Atomic Ro-Bo Kid, Drunken Master, Gunhead,Mr Heli and we can't forget Vigilante were also superb game's too and again i was very lucky at the time to experience all of them and many more too. So imho the PC-Engine only being a 8bt console at roughly the time of the MG and the SNES were on the horizon it was was waaaaaay waaaaaay ahead of it's time and will alway's have a special place in my heart for console and gaming experience's. WOW 😨 !!! H/S!!!, i didn't realize my comment would get so in depth lol. Well if anyone ever read's this prolonged comment and get's to the end? i really do greatly appreciate it. Thank you guy's/gal's and all the best to everyone of of you. Later's ✌.
These are the variations I own, PC Engine, CD-ROM2, Core Grafx, Core Grafx II, Super CD-ROM2, Shuttle, PC-KD863G Monitor, Super Grafx, Turbografx, GT, LT, Duo, Duo-R, Duo-RX, LaserActive PC-Engine PAC-N1. I am missing the Turbografx CD-ROM2 unit and the Sharp X1 Twin - Japanese PC with PC Engine built in.
I like your videos. Still I can’t help but wonder, what is the reaction of random observers, when you do that strange thing of yours - love eyes holding a console like a baby, nod into the camera.. It makes me a bit uneasy even from here!
Hmm so SEGA copied NEC in the 90's(Add-ons, and Add-ons for Add-ons), then Nintendo Copied them again with the Wii(reducing functionality and unit cost but, while keeping same price point). Talk about lack of originality in terms of business strategy...
Actually, if you were looking for a PC Engine with AV out back in the day before the Core Grafx came out, then this wasn't such a bad deal. The only thing that's really cut back about it is the dumbed down Expansion port, which most consumers probably weren't even aware of at the time. It does look ugly as hell though, so there's that. I will probably still buy one tho because I'm a foolish collector like that.
Great video, but I have seen NO MENTION of the PC ENGINE LT!! That's right! Just when you thought it couldn't get stranger or more obscure than this, NEC still has an ace up their sleeve! The PC ENGINE LT was everything you would never want in a portable gaming system, lol it even still had to be powered with a wall cord! Lolol check it out top hat if you weren't aware of the LT already! Love the vids! Keep em coming! Peace!
Not to split hairs, but I don't think this "failed" as it's just another model of Pcengine. It would be like saying the SNES Jr. fail but its sells counts as SNES sells. The supergraphx was a failure as it was meant to replace the Pc-engine.
the issue with the tg16 marketing in the us was that you couldn't rent the games or systems. Most parents wouldn't buy a system no-one had seen.
If they had passed the production cost savings down to the consumer (by actually pricing the system accordingly), then it might have had a chance. But then again, its incompatibility with the add-ons was a big negative as well, so you never know.
The Shuttle controller is really nice.
Much more comfortable than the regular PCE pads.

... for the save module only, apparently.
I love this machine. It's just so goofy looking, how could anyone not want to buy 6 of them?
I know right? I had 5 but pretty much needed 6
Just bought 6
The AV out must make it better as long as ur not planning on a CD add on.
What no PC Engine LT? That would be a great video to see..
so the PC-Engine Shuttle was basically the Sega Genesis Model 3 of the PC-Engine Line but launched almost at the same time as the first model and for the same price in a low attempt by NEC to scam parents.
A glorious review. Now go play "Alex Jones vs The NPC's" as your reward!
4:31 I SALUTE YOU TOP HAT
Only a true gentleman would have Ys music playing on his video. Well done Sir
I didn't know about this version, thanks
3:25 Um you do realize Billy Mitchell is a cheat?
I am sure I had one of those Amstrad consoles as a kid, dont remember ever using it a lot.
Wait... it's that the Atari Jaguar mold?! Who didn't buy the rights to that mold? LOL
This predates jag by several years

Richard, do you think there will ever be a functional Atari Jaguar emulator?

@@adamcayzer2564 That was me who liked your comment yes.
Where does the background music come from?
AlexTenThousand Ys Book 1&2 From TurboGrafx-CD/PC-Engine CD-ROM2. At least at the 4:20 mark
whenever I hear the Ys soundtrack, I want to skip work & pop in the game ;)
How many PC Engine variations did NEC make anyway? I remember the laptop variation...
laser-active is the best one

@@Asobitech I wish you posted more! You own some interesting things.
Brandon McNeill there’s lots of fun stuff on my Twitter, Instagrams and UA-cams.
thankyou for listening to us and showing this superb lump of grey tat 🤗
I see anime girl i click
Mr Neddlemouse: The legendary Sanic Master they put me off TBH wish he'd stop it.
I was just thinking how unnecessary those pics are. Also this UA-camr has a certain creep factor going on
...sad
Thx 4 the y‘s Music 🙂
I like the design somehow, it screams 90's to me in a way.
But yea, from a consumer standpoint it doesn't add anything in value to the system.
Dumbed down? Over priced? Shut up and take my money
That 80s female anime character looks so familiar. I know I’ve seen it before.
Does anyone know the name of the songs used in the video?
I like your videos. Still I can’t help but wonder, what is the reaction of random observers, when you do that strange thing of yours - love eyes holding a console like a baby, nod into the camera.. It makes me a bit uneasy even from here!

They should have made the PC Engine Shuttle a cheap Supergrafx system.

Makes fun of the way Japanese people talk then proceeded to say "pee-she ingin" for the rest of the video.
It's not even the way it's pronounced in Japan. It's ん (n) not ぬ (nu) at the end.
Also says “con-shoe-mer”
Yeah...

Looks a LOT like the Jaguar haha
That skirt though
Pointless endeavour was the shuttle.
What region is this guy's accent from? English folks are all so weird with their insane regional accent differences.
Are you sure it was designed to take on Nintendo AND Sega? Pretty sure it was Nintendo only.
Yasssssssss!
was that a gameboy advance laptop?
