December 2017 Taxco Mexico Taxi Ride

While in the mountain town of Taxco, Mexico … we took a vintage VW Bug taxi up the EXTREMELY NARROW and EXTREMELY STEEP cobblestone streets to the city’s highest point for a breathtaking view.
That 1970s Beetle taxi engine moaned, groaned, and whined against gravity all the way up. The driver’s skill with the manual transmission was impressive has he did hairpin turns, stopped-paused-restarted frequently on STEEP inclines without stalling or rolling back, and as he maneuvered within an inch or two of cars going the opposite direction on streets that seemed impossibly too narrow for two cars to pass.
