    • @OurUnspoiledItaly
      @OurUnspoiledItaly  Рік тому +2

      Its a Bergan Wheeled Pet Comfort Carrier. We wouldn't trade it for anything. The wheels pop off so when we check in and if they weight her and the carrier we are well under limit and on the plane without the wheels it fits under the seat better and gives her more room. Not to mention its much easier going long distances to not have to carry her.

    All worth it! Thank you. We have done it 3 times. Please know not to let the rabies shots expire not even for a day because of the new rule. Thank you for the video! Make sure you have your vet see your dog at least 22 days before departure, so that if the rabies has expired, they can give your dog a booster 21 days prior to departure.

    Wish me luck. I’m traveling back with a puppy under 12 weeks. She’s too young for rabies and pet passport. I called the airline and they said just a health certificate because of her age. I did get an email from the CDC validating they would not require her to have a rabies vaccine. Unfortunately my visa expires so I can’t wait another month to travel.

    • @OurUnspoiledItaly
      @OurUnspoiledItaly  2 роки тому

      If she becomes eligible for a rabies shot while you are in Europe, get it done there and get her a passport there. I will be posting a video on how to do this, just uploaded it now. If you're going to be doing this at least once a year you'll save a lot of money. Good Luck!

    What about from Italy going back home to the US? Do I need an Export Certificate from Italy?

    • @OurUnspoiledItaly
      @OurUnspoiledItaly  Рік тому +1

      If you came from the US with a USDA certificate and vaccinaiton proof, that's all you need. If you have an EU Pet passport and proof of vaccination in the EU you can enter the US.

    • @OurUnspoiledItaly

      If their requirements are different than EU countries yes. We’ve stopped in Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy and there it’s all the same. We’ve avoided the Uk because they have their own requirements.

    Awesome information thanks a lot!
    You mentioned about having to mail the health certificate, etc to the Endorsement Office. I see on their website that it can also be done by the vet electronically via a system called VACHS instead of mailing? I'm not sure if you're familiar with that route, just asking. Thanks!

    • @OurUnspoiledItaly
      @OurUnspoiledItaly  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, we did that last trip. Before that my vet wasn't real confident about doing it and I didn't need the anxiety, but worked great. We have two update videos on thi subject, we've found an even cheaper way to travel with our dog.

    excellent video...a few questions. I took my dogs on the plane and landed in Milan (they came as service dogs) I did have all the correct paperwork....However, I did not go through the "something to declare" area like you mentioned ugh...so my paperwork was never looked at or stamped. I am staying from December and leaving in April so my paperwork will need to be updated (past the 30 days) ....I will need to go to an Italian Vet and get new forms done to enter the US. I will get EU passports and do I need other forms as well?
    Also what airlines were you flying that requested the vaccination records on a single piece of paper?
    Thank you again for the best and most informative UA-cam video I have ever seen!

    • @OurUnspoiledItaly
      @OurUnspoiledItaly  Рік тому +2

      First off don't worry about not showing you paperwork on the way in. No one stamps it. To leave you only need your valid (American) rabies vaccination certificate. When you enter the US show them all your papers. The thirty days is only about it being valid to leave the US, it's just to prove you left the US with the dog and they'll also want to see a valid vaccination certificate. This is all separate from the EU pass port stuff. The EU pet passport makes it easier to go back and forth in the future and to travel around the rest of Europe.
      The main reason to get the EU PP is it makes going back and forth much easier as you don't need to deal with your vet or the USDA. To get an EU PP you'll need to show them a vaccination certificate that shows the pet was vaccinated within the last year. In Italy dogs need their rabies vaccination every year unlike the US where its three years. If your dog had their vaccination more than a year ago have an Italian vet give them the shot so you'll be in compliance. We did that this year so that way we could have them update her passport and use that from now on. The EU PP works so well and saves so much money. As I mentioned in the video it was recommended by both my vet and the USDA. Hope this is clear and your present paperwork will be good for the whole trip. First trip we were out for over two months and no problem returning

      @@OurUnspoiledItaly Fantastic!! You have been more than helpful!! I can't tell you!! I have been doing research for over a year and no one has been able to answer my questions!! I just want to make sure I have this correct. I did just get them new rabies vaccines which is good news. I will go to the Italian vet and get the EU passports and then when I return next year I will not have to go through the USDA. However, it will be a year so I will need to get a new rabies shot either from the Italian vet to update the EU passport or one from my US Vet and then show the Italian vet to update the stamp in my EU passport...correct?...again thank you for all your help! Great to find a fellow Americans who enjoys traveling Italy with their dog as much as we do!

    • @OurUnspoiledItaly
      @OurUnspoiledItaly  Рік тому +1

      Wow, that's a tough one, because even though your american vaccination is good for three years, your EU passport will be out of date. It may work, it may not. I'd probably bite the bullet and get the USDA papers again as getting turned back at the airport would be horrible. We may be in the same boat if we don't get back by June.

    • @OurUnspoiledItaly

      Almost all the EU has uniform requirements internally, so no problems there. She was welcomed at our hotel and all the restaurants in Zurich, we've been there at least three times with her.

    Hello, can you share the vet information you got the pet passport from?
    Also how did you search for a vet in Italy?
    What airlines have you used to travel with your pet?
    Do you fly straight to Italy or connect in another country? I’m looking at a flight that connects in London and from their website it seems I would need to have all the documentation for the UK even though I’m just transitioning through their airport not actually leaving the airport.

      Thanks for watching, let's see if I can answer your questions. First Emma has been in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and we've had no problems entering any of those countries, having her Rabies certificate and EU Passport has been enough. The USDA papers are looked at when leaving and returning to the US. I have avoided the UK as they have a whole set of different rules. EU is pretty uniform, a couple of countries have some different rules, but they're not on our radar. As to getting an EU pet passport, it was a little work but totally worth it, especially traveling to various countries. We have our apartment in Scalea and the nearest Government office that issued the document was in the next town of Praia a Mare. We found them by visiting a local vet, who we found by asking someone with a dog, turns out he's the best in town. It took setting up appointment and then bringing Emma, the looked at her checked her microchip and rabies certificate and paid the fee. Since then we can visit our local vet yearly to get the passport updated as it never actually expires, so no need to revisit government office. Hope that helps, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask

      @@OurUnspoiledItaly Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all my questions. We’ll be heading south from Rome and passing through Praia a Mare, could you share your vet’s information please?
      Also to get the pet passport all I need is EU health certificate and rabies certificate right? Do I need to go to a regular vet first or can I go straight to government office that gives the document. Sorry for all the questions I’m still a little confused as to what are the steps of getting the pet passport once in Italy. Thank you again for your help , your videos have been extremely valuable.

    • @OurUnspoiledItaly
      @OurUnspoiledItaly  2 роки тому +1

      I have looked for the passport office number, but we went there four years ago and we don't have it as once you have the passport you only need to visit a regular vet once a year to renew the document. Here is the website for our vet in Scalea, very helpful, he gave us the number to the Government office in the first place. What we brought to the office were our papers from the USDA, the rabies certificate from our American Vet and then they checked her to make sure she had a proper Microchip for Europe. I think then the fee was 10 Euros. ambveterinariodottcarminecolantonio.business.site/
