      Don’t use Lingoda. It’s a scam. They are really good at finding different types of UA-camr to promote for them. But people, be aware. Lingoda is a scam. Please read the reviews online before you give them your credit number. Pay attention to the bad reviews. (the good ones all look like paid reviews) Once you pay, no matter what reason, you will never get your money back.

      Hi Annette! I hear you. My wife May, the other half of Spanish and Go, is from Mexico. So that's the Spanish I know best. As I mentioned in the video, I'd like to see them have a "Latin American Spanish" option, but since most teachers I had are from Latin America, it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Lingoda's most tricky rule: You need to complete 15 or 30 sessions in each period.
    1. But! Its period does not start on the 1st of each month, you have to "remember very clearly ~ the beginning and ending of the period".
    2. Class points will acquire early.
    (1) But! Only the points you get in the first period, if you book in advance to the date before the beginning, it will block you.
    (2) Then the points of the second period, if you make the appointment to the date of the first period or the third period, it will "not block to remind you at all". (Because of this, I did not get a refund after completing all courses.)
    Conclusion: All discounts are reserved for those who carefully read the contents of the contract. If you are not confident and patient enough to read the contract, I suggest "Don't join this project".

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  3 роки тому +3

      I agree! Reading the rules, as everyone should do, is extremely important for successfully completing this challenge. Sorry to hear you didn’t get the refund. @@SpanishandGo I agree we should read a contract before signing it. However, when something seems too good to be true, it usually is. If they are making it hard for people to get the cashback after the students finish the sprints, based on some small details hidden in a 13 pages document and some (to some extent) hidden clauses, it doesn't seem very honest and transparent. It is as if you sign for a health insurance and after paying for 3 decades, you realize they will not help you because of the conditions you didn't fulfill (those you didn't even see when you signed the contract, because they were written in tiny letters, in the footer of the page...)

      @lobehe1 2 роки тому +2

      Okay, let me amend my word and give you examples.
      2. Class points will acquire early.
      → Class points will acquire before you start every period lesson.
      Example:
      [1st period] 5/15-6/14
      You'll get your 1st period class points on 5/05.
      If you book on the day before 5/15, it won't let you be and give the notification box.
      [2nd period] 6/15-7/14
      You'll get your 2nd period class points on 6/05.
      "If you book on the day before 6/15 or the day after 7/14, it won't stop you or give the notification box." (trap!!!)
      [3rd period] 7/15-8/14
      Hope you will avoid the trap that I fell into.
      Does it make sense^^?

    I am at an intermediate level and am really interested in pursuing this to become fluent. So of course I have some questions. You mentioned that you did the 90 day program, did you feel that the 180 day would have been too redundant or was it that perhaps the cost was too high? After 90 days, do you still feel that there is more to learn, or do you feel that every day speaking will help you make the advancement that you are striving for? Or do you think 180 classes was too much to handle? Thank you!

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Michael - sorry about the delay. Their Marathon promotion (now called the "Sprint" promotion) runs for 90 days, so there isn't a 180-day option for the promotion. 90 days is really intense, but I wouldn't expect to learn everything there is to know in 90 days. There's still plenty more to learn.
      In 90 days I was able to go from a C1 to a C2 CEFR level. I'll need to take additional classes to complete the C2 certification. Most people in my situation would probably be content with this level and not feel the need to improve, but I'm striving for native-like fluency, so I keep practicing. So whether 90 days or not will be enough for you depends on your goals.
      I hope that helps! Thanks for watching! -Jim

As you mentioned, I can book a class on other levels, one level up or one level down. How do I do it, go to the profile and change the course level? or I need to contact support to seek help? Hi Jim, thanks a lot for the awesome review! One question:
    I'm interested in Lingoda Language Sprint and created a free account at Lingoda to check how the web site works. Then, just before I was going to join the sprint, I had a look at the "spring promotion rules" PDF. Under 'participation', it says this:
    PARTICIPATION
    12. The promotion is only open to:
    • Students who have not had a subscription with Lingoda for at least 30 days before
    the sign-up of the Sprint Promotion.
    Now, because I have already created an account at Lingoda to check how the web site works, does this mean that I'm not qualified for the Lingoda Language Sprint now? Does a free account count as a subscription? Were you in the same situation or do you know anyone who was in the same situation?
    Also, do you need to select c1.1 or c1.2 etc, or can you just select C and pick any class from c1.1, c1.2, c1.3 or c1.4 ?
    Thank you

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Peace! Great question. I don't believe a free account is the same as a subscription. But I have two suggestions if you wish to do the promotion: 1. You could make a brand new account and then participate in the promotion just to be sure. Or 2. Reach out to Lingoda directly to make sure you're not breaking any rules. My guess is that you're okay with the free account, and that shouldn't disqualify you, but I'd rather pass this one on to them.
      You can switch your level whenever you want, meaning you can take an A1.1 class one day and a B1 class the next if you wanted to.
      By the way, the C1 and C2 levels are unfortunately no longer available for the promotion. I just learned about this a few days ago, and have updated our comprehensive Lingoda blog post to reflect this: spanishandgo.com/learn/lingoda-marathon-review
      I hope that helps! -Jim

    I would honestly advice nobody should go for the sprint. Most of the time teachers cancel the classes and you end up having credits left after the sprint. But it's obvious you are not going to pay to continue (after the Sprint) . What happens is all your extra credits and booked classes gonna be cancelled. That's what happened with me. I had so many credits left because around 10 of my classes are cancelled. Along with that i have referral credits. They want me to pay again before I can use those credit or even take booked classes. It's a dishonest company

    • @SpanishandGo

      Hi Mihir - sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. That's interesting. I've taken over 100 classes with Lingoda, and only maybe three of my classes have been canceled. But if Lingoda has to cancel a class, that is not held against you for the promotion. You can still get credit for canceled classes even if you don't want to continue with the company. Just cancel before the promotion is over, and Lingoda will credit you for the canceled classes. I hope that helps. -Jim

    Has anyone actually read the terms for the marathon? They are very strict. I’m curious how strongly they hold you to them. I was signing up last week then looked for how you can be disqualified and wasn’t happy with what I found. I’m totally willing to put $800 up as motivation. But without any wiggle room to reduce stress I simply won’t learn anything.

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  5 років тому +10

      Hi Eric! Yes, I have read their terms and I left a link to them in the description of this video. You're right, they are very strict. And they hold you to them. But I can see why. This isn't an online course that you complete on your own. Each class has a real teacher, and Lingoda has to pay their teachers for their time and expertise. If you successfully complete the Marathon they basically end up footing the bill for 90 hours of lessons that they paid the teachers to teach. So there is the stress of being on time and showing up every day, but I can't imagine that would mean you wouldn't learn anything. I've learned a lot, and that wouldn't have changed even if I lost the Marathon. ¡Saludos! -Jim

      Spanish and Go true. But basically it says if you get interrupted even for a minute you are disqualified. I make $700 a month, no joke. I save a lot so I don’t mind but for me the stress would be higher than most.

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  5 років тому +12

      @@echo-hotel I hear you, and if the price of losing the Marathon is too high, I certainly wouldn't recommend doing it. I have spoken with people at Lingoda, and they told me that you have up to five minutes to reconnect if your internet goes out without being disqualified. Again, not a lot of wiggle room, but if you have a backup connection like I recommended in the video, you should be ok. But don't do it if it's too much of a financial risk.

      @@echo-hotel I have made the same decision Eric. I think that I would be too afraid I might experience a technical problem and loose all my investment. So I am now learning with Lingoda, but only a few lessons per month. I have chosen the cheapest subscription and I can have 5 lessons per month. I also have the option to buy extra lessons if I want. I am happy with this decision. Lingoda lessons last 60 minutes, which is not a lot but you are supposed to prepare them and it takes a lot of time. I think that in order to remember what you have learned you should also create some flashcards, review the past lessons etc.... So one lesson is about 3 hours of work, maybe more...And I don't see how I could do that everyday or every two days. I am trying to have 10 lessons/month, which is a lot of work.

This only happened to me once, and I received an email clarifying that particular day wouldn't be held against me. Also, there should be classes available if you book at least a week in advance. If you book with any less time, you might not find classes that work well with your schedule, and in the worst case scenario, you might not find a class for your level at all. You actually receive an official CEFR certificate when you complete the course? That in itself seems enticing

    • @Craazy14us
      @Craazy14us 5 років тому +3

      Is their CEFR certificate anything official, or just a school issued paper? Do you still have to take the official tests with i.e. DELE for Spanish or the Goethe Institute for German, etc., if you want to be officially C1 certified? This school is not confirming that they are accredited. From what you are describing here, they cannot be official, if there is no individual testing.
      If, for example, you want to study in Spain, and your university program in Madrid requires that you are C1 certified, if you show up with your Lingoda certificate, can you be accepted? If not, and this is just a piece of paper that you have completed the 90 days, and you have not taken the official tests required for C1, they are misleading their students.
      Now, if you don't care about the official tests, and you only take the class to improve your skills, this may be working for you, but the school should not be allowed to call it a CEFR certificate, it should be called the Lingoda certificate or something, making it clear that it is a school participation certificate, not a knowledge certificate. For an official CEFR certificate you have to undertake rigorous multiple hour testing in special testing locations, and you are tested in essay writing, reading, speaking, and listening comprehension, etc. You have to take vocabulary and grammar tests, and you have a face to face interview as part of the exam. These official C1 tests are not easy.
      Bottom-line, if you are using the program to get an official certificate for either
      - an official job,
      - a university application, or
      - a visa requirement,
      check whether this document will be accepted beforehand. Given that there is no test, I sincerely doubt it.
      You pay zero dollars. Remember the old adage: If something is to good to be true, it probably is.
      Real C1 tests are hard, and they are quite academic in nature. For the multiple-choice portion of the test, there are some sample tests out on the web, i.e. for English. Just try one of them. The English tests are all based on British English, and they are difficult enough that, having an American English background and having passed American based university degrees, without any language barrier whatsoever, I found some of the questions so subtle that it was challenging to pick the right answer. Just give it a try, and then judge for yourself, whether your foreign language skills would be at that level.
      I cannot speak for Spanish, but in German and Russian I know that these tests are similarly challenging. There is a reason why there is a whole CEFR prep industry open for business in Europe. And interestingly you don't come across the name Lingoda, once you look at that official recommendations, even though Lingoda is a European based company.
      If you don't need your certificate, and just try to improve your skills, and you manage to get the class for free via this challenge, then all the power to you. I saw a sample class for German that was at an A1 level, and that one class was such a mess, that I was shocked, actually. Both the material as well as the teacher were horrendous. But maybe that teacher is not there anymore. Or they reworked the material, who knows. Good luck.

    My honest review: hola chicos, a mi lo que no me gusto de Lingoda es que su clase es demasiado larga para la hora. En las 2 clases que tomé ninguna la llegaron a terminar, se quedaron a la mitad. Otra cosa es que no hay un orden para intervenir como en otras plataformas. Me paso que una alumna se excedia en sus comentarios y el profesor por no callarla por educacion la dejaba hablar.

      @@LiborSupcik Estudio alemán y es cierto que a veces las lecciones son muy largas y no llegan a terminarlas los profesores. Pero no es siempre el caso, en general dejamos de lado un par de ejercicios para que el profesor tenga el tiempo de explicar toda la gramática (tomé clases de gramática). Si el profesor no termina la lección, no es tan grave porque puedes terminarla tú solo/a. Tienes acceso a un archivo PDF antes de empezar la lección con todo el contenido de ésta. También está incluida la corrección de los ejercicios. Creo que los profesores son bastante competentes y sobre todo, profesionales. Tienen bastante paciencia, incluso con los alumnos que están perdidos y tienen un nivel bajo. Yo hasta ahora me quedo muy contenta con la calidad de la enseñanza y el sistema me motiva para seguir aprendiendo. Trato de tomar 2 o 3 lecciones por semana y de esta manera mejoro bastante.

      @SpanishandGo  5 років тому

      Hi, Patrick! Great question. I was probably around a C1 already, but my teachers and I felt like C1 would be helpful anyways for the breadth of topics covered. There’s tons of vocabulary and phrases to be learned with the platform since a lot of topics are things I usually don’t talk about with people. For example, banking, the economy, and real estate. I learned a ton about these topics and otherwise probably wouldn’t have gone out of my way to learn about them in Spanish. Now I feel prepared to take on C2 without feeling like I missed out on making sure I was a solid C1 speaker first. ¡Saludos! -Jim
