    you re the only one that says blow dry close to the hair with hot air, all others just say do it from a distance but you cant get your hair straight like that and im glad that i ve found you, you actually know what you re talking about , plus you have wavy hair and it makes it more realistic unlike others who have fine straight hair and they can get away with just a few combs

      What I learned from my years of watching men's hair UA-cam is that the vast majority of the guy's who host these channels have what Matt described as "ideal hair" type (makes sense, really). On top of that, they far too often neglect to emphasize how much a person's hair type will impact whether a product, styling technique or even a hairstyle in overall will work for them.
      As someone with insanely thick, coarse, wavy and uncompliant hair, TDM Style is one of the only channels that's relevant to me. Realized that when my dumbass bought Quicksand and Claymation without knowing how hair type affects viability and could not understand how it felt so awful for me until I saw Matt's video experiencing the same thing.

    Great stuff, Matt! As a fellow thick, curly, dry hair guy.. I just want to mention that I cocktail pre stylers. I'll add two or three before blow drying: a smoothing agent and then something with some hold and volume. Lately that combo has been It's a 10 miracle hair potion and Flagship Black Water. Most times I also add two drops of a grooming oil for extra hydration and smoothness.

    • @TDMStyle
      @TDMStyle  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I’ve done that in the past as well on occasion. These days though I find it best for me to just choose one based on what end result I want. Unless I want to test some sort of really dry/grippy prestyler, then I would probably also go in with something smoothing just to make it more comfortable to apply, but in that case I’d prob just avoid it instead tbh haha

    I see a lot of tutorials using a vent brush instead of a round brush, but with the same purpose (grabbing the hair in the bristles and pulling it back)
    Is there an advantage to one or the other?

    • @TDMStyle
      @TDMStyle  2 роки тому +1

      Personal preference and hair length, really. Imo vent brushes work better for shorter hair, since the round brush can wrap longer lengths of hair around it. Also for me personally I have an easier time with the type of bristles on round brushes as they tend to grab my hair better.

    I am learning alot from your videos and i am growing my hair out. I been seeing alot of comments about Brazilian blow outs. Is that needed. Is that what u had done to make your hair look so smooth and straight?

    • @TDMStyle
      @TDMStyle  Рік тому

      Brazilian blow outs are nice if you can afford to keep up on them (they're a couple hundred bucks per session). Basically it's a way of semi-permanently straightening your hair for a couple of months. They're definitely not needed though, as long as you have the patience to blow dry your own hair each day! I personally have never had a Brazilian blow out done, though I have definitely considered it at times just to see what it would be like. Honestly though they are more suited to folks with really long hair since it will last the longest that way.

I'm guessing not everyday ( which sucks, because i have to find another way to deal with my hair the other days) I do heavy workouts during weekdays, so i do sweat a lot, and my blowdry gets a tad bit screwed after that. Any advice you might have about that? Thanks! I Love your videos, they have helped me a lot!

    gonna try to follow this more closely. seems i could just be not giving it enough time. there are times where hair looks nice and sleek and similar to yours, but then as soon as i put in a paste or clay, i end up with a bit of a frizzy wavy mess. kinda like if i just undid everything. ive tried going a full day with nothing but the baxter clay effect spray for the sake of having loose soft hair but yea ends up not having any shape and looks terrible after about an hour lol.

  • @kalaxazoseisaire
    @kalaxazoseisaire 2 роки тому

    Hey matt i m kinda confused with the round brush. I have same hair as you and i want to straighten it but i mostly end up with a less frizzy wavy hairstyle, some people say round brushes make the hair waivier but you make it straight , so i guess my technique might be wrong

    • @TDMStyle
      @TDMStyle  2 роки тому

      Really you can use any kind of brush, but I personally find the round brush to be the easiest. Straightening the hair with one is all about rotating the brush to keep tension on the hair and pull it taught while drying it. It definitely takes a good amount of practice though!

    Opinion on mixing prestylers? I have a lot of fine hair so I've been utilizing Kevin Murphy Anti.Gravity (sometimes Aveda thickening tonic in replacement), Shevoo Ocean Sea Salt Spray, and 25 by TheSalonGuy together. Are these products too conflicting which hinders the performance of my hair? When I utilize this combination, my hair has a lot of volume and body but it's a little difficult for my finger to go through the strands in some areas, especially in the middle of the blow-drying phase.
    Maybe combining 25 with Shevoo Ocean Sea Salt Spray isn't the best idea? Any changes that you recommend?

    • @stephano8156
      @stephano8156 4 роки тому

      Maybe you can add some type of hair oil to smoothen out your hair a bit since sea salt can make your hair feel dryer which is probably why it can be difficult for you to run through your hair with your fingers sometimes

    • @TDMStyle
      @TDMStyle  4 роки тому +1

      Nothing at all wrong with mixing prestylers, but for me I’ve found if I try to use too many things at once it sometimes just ends up being too much product and either weighs my hair down or, ends up getting to thick and difficult to run through as you described.
      I think in your case perhaps using KM Antigravity and the sea salt spray together is a bit overkill - sea salt is meant to provide texture and volume and so is the KM, so it sounds like it might just be thickening the hair a bit too much (plus with the added dryness of the salt) which is making it hard to run your fingers through.
      25 and ocean spray should be fine together, since 25 does add some volume but doesn’t add any dryness or coarse texture.
      So in short, for me I’ve found more success just using one dedicated prestyler depending on what sort of result I want that day and then finishing with a complimentary post styler. I’d be curious to know how the KM works for you on its own as your sole prestyler?

    • @sharn5333
      @sharn5333 4 роки тому

      TDM Style it works great as a sole pre-styler, just needed some more texture since my hair fails to emphasize that😭. I tried using AG and 25 with different proportions and it felt a lot better. I suppose another part of the issue is how much product I apply. Thanks for the response and great video 👍🏽

    Awesome video man!!!! Was really looking for this as I feel like I’m still trying to improve my blow drying and am always open some tips haha. How would you compare the hold of amity spray to the crafted cream you used? I’ve been using amity and it’s amazing, but this crafted products looks really interesting

    • @TDMStyle
      @TDMStyle  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Chris! Amity I think is on the drier side and adds more texture, but when finished blow drying can also be a bit too thick/tangly for me if I use any more than 3-4 sprays. Crafted ends up feeling smoother and softer for me but does still also add volume and texture. Hold wise I’d say maybe Amity has a touch more because of its texture/dryness.

      That is part of the caveat to having your hair super smooth and straight - naturally it just wants to lay flatter. You might have some luck using a more texturizing type of prestyler, something with some grip/thickening property, and then it's all about the angle you hold the hair up while blow drying.

    Nice video though.👍🏻

      Yeah, I do wish they were more affordable. You can get a certified refurb one though for around $250 instead of $400. Either way, definitely worth saving up for one imo!

      Same. Also, if you have the OfferUp app, I’ve seen many people selling them for $250 sealed and brand new. That’s also an option

      I had no idea Dyson made a hair dryer too. That is a ton of money tho for a broke college student like me. However I also stopped using the $15 ones at cvs and picked up a $200 italian one from Sally's. I forget the name of it, but I'd never go back to cvs again for one. I love the one I have now. But I'll check out a Dyson when I graduate and get a job :)

    I can replicate your results in a fraction of the time using a hair straightener. And dont gimme none of that "it damages your hair" crap. As long as you use a good conditioner, pre and post styler which you obviously do, then you dont need to worry about the "damage" which by the way the blowdryer also does a bit

      I agree, heated tools when used properly don’t damage the hair. However for me a straightener is only useful for second day scenarios. Can’t go from wet hair to dry using a straightener, and if I let my hair air dry first, it gets so curly and unruly that it would take me twice as long to fix than if I had just blown it out in the first place.

    If I had the wave you do in your hair...swear to ??? I’d look like Marge Simpson every day. Its funny how we want the opposite of what we have in terms of hair. Straight is boring. For me any way.
