Quarantine is a really good time to do a van conversion as long as you can get the parts delivered. Great to have plans for the future to look forward to and to keep going through this unsettling time.

G'day everyone! Hope you are safe and healthy wherever you are in the world 🙏🏼❤️
I smashed this edit out to get it to you today and being the first of the 'proper' build videos of this series I would love to get your feedback!!
Also, I wanted to address something here that I forgot to in the video (and I was way over time anyway. Sorry!). I have been asked a lot about why this conversion series is happening here on the 'Max & Lee' channel and not on my new 'Max & Occy' channel. There are multiple reasons for this but here are the top ones.
    1. Due to the way UA-cam works, if I went straight over to the M&O channel then inevitably a lot of the subscriber base from this channel would miss the news of the transition and therefore may never be aware the change occurred. By slowly filtering over it gives people in this community more of a chance to make the choice on whether they would like to come over.
    2. It took us 3 months to get monetized on this channel when we started out. If I put these vids straight on the 'Max & Occy' channel then I would earn nothing from the videos for potentially 3 months. I am currently going through the application process to be a paramedic here in Australia again but it is a slow process. In the meantime the income I make from these videos will help cover the costs of my daily living (so watch those ads and share please 😉).
    3. We still really value the community here and think that it can still thrive. Lee is also considering putting some videos upon this space in future and we I may also be checking in with her and Occy in some of these videos.
I hope this helped answer the question. Thank you all so much for being a part of this crazy journey, I appreciate all of you!

Nicely done Max. I’m a devoted dog human so don’t forget some special touches for Occy. Make him a special bench section that fits into the passenger seat foot area for when it’s just the two of you chillin on the drive, that way he can spread out up next to you and copilot. Also have a safety harness for him in case of sudden stops or accident. Worst thing is him flying through the windscreen or being thrown like a rag doll around the cabin. Lastly.... climate change is making things heat up so much here in Oz so put in two extractor fans ... one to draw in and one to pull out heat. If you have to leave him in the van for any reason, going in to shops etc, you want him to have air circulation. It takes 5 to 8 minutes for a car to turn into an oven ... literally. Love that you are keeping going on your own, you seem like such a nice bloke. Your future is going to be beautiful. Ps.... you should check out La Vagabonde .... you probably already do, you remind me of Riley.

We are all here for you on this journey you have set your sights on with soon Occy as well! The way you talk about your van build inspires so many of us watching! Seriously, Max, I really don't like van build videos, but I could literally watch yours all day! It reminds me of watching my dad as he puttered around with his building projects over my whole childhood. I'm looking at my own van build hopefully in the fall, and I would give anything to have my dad around again to make it a joint build project. He died 5 years ago, and took all of his wonderful skills with him. I like that you do things at your own speed...it's realistic and frankly, is way more encouraging to those of us who are doing this for the first time! Thanks!🥰

Hey Max, I've seen a few people have builds that include Murphy beds, basically a bed that folds down from the wall. It could be folded up on the wall to give you space during the day like you want, but then could be folded down in 5 seconds to have your bed ready to go. You could still have the couch setup where it is but the bed could fold down where the bed tape is located. Just a thought, but I'm loving this build! Keep up the great work!

It's so good to see you again on the regular. You have been missed my friend. So with the stay-put order, after finally booking the cargo shipper for my van, Italy got postponed and I became stuck in Florida with nothing to do except remodel my van! :D About 3 weeks ago I ripped everything apart and started rebuilding it. I'm right there with you Max. After living in the van for the last year and traveling, I know what works and what I can do without. It keeps me busy and I'm looking forward to the final result. I considered filming it then decided not to, just bcz we don't know how long we'll be on lockdown here, and as soon as I can leave, I need to be ready to go. I bought more land! in Florida, 3 acres on a lake and 5 acres in Arizona. You're welcome to boondock anytime for as long as you'd like. I love your new layout!

Also I'm putting ceiling hooks for a hammock. Ceiling curtain tracks can be useful when one wants more seclusion during sleep hours. Ooooo Marmite, lifting the van would also be beneficial, even if the vehicle is new, u can see exactly what is needed to either strengthen or repair,
Stay safe, enjoy ur build, have a big smile, God bless.

After we finished building our van we said 'never again!', and now watching this... well, Ben is eyeing up the drills and his toolbox again! We both LOVE the layout! We have a full size bed in our van, and while it gives us valuable garage space and a real mattress, we do sometimes consider making it a pull out bed to open up the space even more. Think you've made a great choice of van and she's going to be a beautiful adventure rig by the time you're through. Really can't wait to follow this build series Max, you're doing an awesome job so far 🤙 Chesca & Ben x

Hi Max, great Vblog, really enjoying this trip with you. Van layout is a personal choice, go for what you want.. great that you have a shower room! My van has one and we use it all the time.. make sure you plan loads of water and a boiler.. water on demand uses too much water before it gets hot.. last thing, enjoy the process, there is no rush.. we are not judging the build speed.. you are so lucky to have so much space to build.. thanks again and keep well

I much prefer the idea of couch/bed setup as well, purely for the idea of entertaining and socializing. People have always tried to sway me another direction but I am very firm on that one! Haha! I also love how you say the trades things takes you a long time yet I met you and Lee back in 2017 and my build is still basically not even started, so I'd say you're doing just fine! I'm so jealous at how little damage you had to the floor... in all fairness my bus is a loooot older at a '96 and having dealt with Saskatchewan winters its whole life, but I had SO much welding that had to be done to the floor... I spent close to 2k just on getting windows covered and the floor and some underneath things fixed up. It was a huge shock to me but I'm glad it'll last me longer and I won't be Flintstoning my way around!
Glad to see you happy and healthy, Max! Can't wait for the next update!

👍🏻 I am LOVING the detail in this video. Personally I don’t mind a longer video, the more detail the better.
See, I was one if those “I don’t want to have to make a bed up every night” BUT now I’ve heard you say what you said about space, visitors and work etc I think that makes SO much sense I’ve changed my mind!!!

Loved the video. Magpies in the background, beautiful. I'm from Holland but grew up in Queensland. So hearing magpies...or kookaburras bring back great memories. You are so lucky to be staying on such a beautiful property and we are to because we to can enjoy the view 😀. I also love the size of the van. A lot more layout options are possible in a van this size.
Really looking forward watching the van build and can't wait to see Occy reunited with you.🐾

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Van looks like it was well taken care of. It strikes me funny before you place the Australian money exchange into American money, I was doing it in my head LOL. I love the layout that you carved for you & Occy's living quarters before you know it, you'll have it looking pretty "Schmick" Stay safe & healthy... Abrazos

This van build is swaying me from bus to van... there really many can builds with showers but I love this layout and you points on size for mobility when traveling areas that a bus just can’t get to... I am in Canada but am looking forward to one day traveling across Australia too so I will be watching and taking notes of the hot spots to see on your new channel!

    Max,
I totally agree with the layout. After 5 years of living in a Chevy Express van, now understand the need to be able to walk thru from rear, to driver seat, and thru the side door to wherever in the van. So much more day time living space, and only takes a few minutes to organize the bedroom.
Personally, I would go for vinyl flooring ... much easier to keep clean. Fewer problems with moisture. Be careful with the off gassing of glues and the flooring. Bamboo flooring? Ceramic flooring could be the best option if your van can handle the weight. There are light-weight ceramic tiles on the market ... coming out of Mexico and Indonesia.
    Best wishes!

Hey Max! I loved everything about this video. 20ish minutes is perfect. So excited to follow along. Btw, I was in the process of buying my Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle I previously told you about when this virus thing broke out. The plan was (and is) to head south from Cuenca all the way down to Ushuaia Argentina, then back up to and around Colombia, using your itinerary as a guide. Obviously this is on hold for now, but will resume once things get back to normal. Thanks for all of the inspiration!

Long videos are lovely and calming.... you’re so relaxing Max... so nice to see your peace, you working your dream, the farm around you, the green, the animals... all so calm and pretty. No need to worry to make shorter videos... let things run slow and calm and fresh. Great floor plan by the way.

Hi Max. A couple of years ago I completed a van conversion that had a shower in it. To get round the problem of the bathroom door being in the way, I fitted a sliding door, this worked really well as a door and it also stopped any water leaking out without the need for a (smelly) shower curtain that sticks to you when showering! Something else for you to ponder. All the best. Dan
