- I'm spending the weekend with the W6TRW club at a high vantage point looking down over the South Bay in Southern California. What a perfect time to break out the ICOM IC-905 and run some 10GHz. contacts for the ARRL Field Day 2024!

Thanks for recording. We had a Great field day!
This was encouraging to me. I can’t tell you how many thousands of dollars of equipment I’ve destroyed over the years in fits of rage. And with the pressure of a livestream…oh boy!
Great trouble shooting skills Josh. This is one great video! Thanks.
Thank you!
4 degree beamwidth of the 10ghz dish antenna... need to be spot on aiming... and being up high you may need down tilt to get him better. The MN 10ghz crew uses rifle scopes on their dishes to aim at distant landmarks, or they swap to GPS on the dish to have a compass for accurate headings... I know when they make contacts across Lake Superior they have predetermined places each side stops at so they know the compass heading and tilt for the dish.
Wait for a t-storm to try rain scatter CW! Sounds like aurora!
I use 5 turns on one end of the USB cable & 6 turns on the other end with FAIR-RITE 2643167851 oval cores on both ends. At 100 W I still have to have the radio well grounded to not get glitches.
Yep, need ferrites on the USB cable.
Nice job. Always wanted to try 10GHz.
Thank you!
Reasons why I connect to the 705 via WiFi.
What antenna are you using on your Kenwood D75? It looks like it works well.
A 1:1 balun between the balanced feeder and the unbalanced atu input would help tuning and isolation.
That is a balanced tuner.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse It's an unbalanced antenna tuner. SO-239 with a separate ground lug. The brochure says the SO-239 goes to a 50 Ohm antenna or longwire. The DX Engineering page says: internal balun type: none. Not that it wouldn't work when fed with balanced feeder. But there will still be a balanced to unbalanced interface not taken care of. A simple 1:1 balun would do that. Feeder impact to radiation pattern will minimize and fewer problems with antenna de-tuning when conductors are near the feeder.
Now we know why the 905 has been on sale
What is the antenna you're using on your HT and why that one?
It’s one of the Comet short antennas. The reason is it packs nicely into the backpack strap pouch I keep the D75 in. I also carry better 2 meter antennas in a backpack like a 1/2 wave vertical or roll-up J-Pole.
TEN THOUSAND MEGAHERTZ
We need to get you a Macbook Air
What was the distance on the 10 ghz qso
About 32 miles.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse tnx
