    Don't think we would get bored of you weeding out the plot. Actually I think that's the most exciting, seeing the plot go from most terrible to a beautiful allotment. Just a sped-up version would be enough.

    Nettles are a good companion plant, Valerian is also excellent for companion planting and its root is insanely good for a multitude of things.

      I’ve got tons of nettles 😅. Wouldn’t mind a bit of valerian on the plot. I’ll try and nab some from a friend’s garden.

      @tecmow4399 like you, I am starting my own plot. A beginner at growing my own but always ready to learn & listen to others. Already created a wildlife haven of 2 acres here in France. Everything native for the birds & bees. Built a wildlife pond too.

    I found that normal composting just doesn't kill any weed roots or seeds efficiently enough, and my hot composter can't take the volume , so I repurposed a water butt, filled it 3/4 with rain water, and drop all weed species plants into the water, and use an old patio parasol base to keep it submerged. Rots the weeds and also creates a stinky weed tea that you can then feed your other plants with. After a year I empty the rotted contents into my normal composting bin. Keep up the great work and love the content 👍

    • @tecmow4399
      @tecmow4399  7 місяців тому +1

      That’s a great idea! Yeah this compost bin would definitely not kill off any weeds in its current state so I might give that a whirl! Thanks for the idea ❤️🥰

    Have been experimenting with making compost in 10, 20 litre buckets, household scraps and shredded paper or leaves, every other day, after 3 months are used to fill a 40 litre bin, all have lids and holes. Tiger worms and coffer grounds added once a 10 or 20 litre is nearly full. This is used for seedlings and growing plants along after 6 months, have been experimenting with how to remove the tiger worms.

    Regarding the asparagus I’ve found In tue past that they light rot off that deep I dug down a spades depth and broke all the soil up in the trench and then created an upside down v with some gravel on top with the roots played on top of that. I ended up with the crowns around an inch under the soil which worked perfectly for me. I think yours may be a little deep mate 👍🏻 also that long handled fork, where did you get that??????? I need one big time to save my back!

      @tecmow4399  7 місяців тому +3

      Thank you for that I’ll give that a try next time with a bit more preparation.
      The long handled fork - I made it. It’s a “faithful Irish shovel handle” and a snapped fork head I found on the the plot

    Looks like a peaceful day at the allotmentThings are really going to explode the next weeks. Yay for getting more things into the ground!
    Sprouting potatoes is happy news! Aspargus is a slow grower I've heard, exclusive stuff I'm just eagerly awaiting my own potatoes to sprout so I can start topping off with hay to lock in the moisture and avoid green potatoes. Other than that let's just avoid nightly frost.
    That stone path looks nice though, I didn't realise there was a path there, where is it leading? A deck? The grape pergola? The herb and wildflower patch?
    I've never heard of mashua either! That sounds and looks exciting! I can't find any for sale here. Bummer. Great job Keep it up!

      They’ve really started to go nuts now and I’ve had to be busy with other commitments at EXACTLY that point 😂
      That reminds me Inshould mulch these potatoes too! 😅
      That’s exciting though. How’s the weather been with you recently? No more late cold spells I hope

    • @SiljeMeum
      @SiljeMeum 7 місяців тому

      @@tecmow4399 Yes, get them taters mulched! I'll cross my fingers for you not to be too much of a busy bee so you can have som peas and quiet at the allotment. 😁🤭 I love how there's always something happening, seems like bustlin' place to be.
      The cold spells are over!🌡The weather suddenly improved drastically 🌞I guess the same heatwave is hitting us as well. Today was spent in the sun and at the garden centre. I'm crossing my fingers that a 'Hidcote' Lavender might over winter, and I'm setting myself up for failure with a small rosemary. Unfortunately this old farmhouse has no cellar and no other functional building for frost free storage.. Summers easily hit +32C, winters easily hit -32C.. 🥴 But that will be a worry in 6 months time. I've tried to contain myself from sowing all the seeds, and been watering established sprouts not entirely sure if they're self sown chamomile, zinnias or just a shit ton of nettle sprouts. 😂
      Have a good one 🌠🌌
