This is one of the best it gets better videos I have watched. Brilliant man. Sincere, simple and effective. I hope many people see your vid. Thank you!
i'm a girl and i'm straight, but i wanted to say how amazing i find what you ppl are doing here! I think it's great that you all support each other! It's amazing how watching your video Matt, i can totally understand how you feel, even i've never went trugh the same thing. It makes me smile seeing you smiling when you talk about how good it makes you feel accepting who you are! I can actually see that you are happy now:) Wish you all the best and all of you who went or going trugh the same thing!
This is SO inspirational to me. I see that glow in your eyes that speaks by itself. You look truly happy and complete. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us.
I absolutely love the sincerity of your message. It touched me a lot and represented what I experienced in my life. True it gets better... We become strong and better humans. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@Kupolyth That's amazing news about your family! Congratulations on having the strength and courage to reveal your true self. As for your classmates, you have to do everything on your own schedule. I don't know where you live or what the environment is like, but I'm sure you can find a group of people you trust and start with them to see ho the process goes. Good luck and let me know if you need anything!
@TheMojore Thank you so much for that comment. That's really the reason I made this video. There are so many people out there who went through the same struggle, and no one should feel like they're in it alone. Hang in there :)
My family is fine with who I am and I enjoy it to an extent. However, how do people deal with coming out to the world? Throughout my life I feel ups and downs with the power to just admit it to people who probably already know and hiding to avoid the hostility from everyone who doesn't. I just don't know what to do and my self isolation is crushing. My final hope right now is college which is just 6 months away. I hope it gets better because no one deserves this loneliness.
Hi Matt !! Thank you so much for share your story.... while you were telling it, i felt like you were tell my story, i feel so identify with so many aspects of it ..... thanks to "it gets better" and specially to your video a feel encourage to speak with my arents a finally feel free (now im 23),,,,, my dad really wants me but he cannot stand gay people, i do not who he us going to react, but again i think this is now !! THANKS AGAIN FOR HELPING ME TO BE FREE... SEND YOU A HUG, TAKE CARE
@mandminia Ciao Bello Matt! I'm sorry I haven't visited your wonderful contribution to this most important project earlier! An effort that I might add, is very dear to my heart! You're so right about the messages that young people get in the home environment, being crucial, weather subtle or overt!
thanks matt. everything you say rings with integrity, intelligence and compassion. and now to prove myself another shallow gay man: you've won my "cutest guy in the It Gets Better video contest."
@farmerz245 I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a tough time with your family. I can't tell you what you should do without knowing you and being in your situation, but even if your family doesn't support you, there are so many people out there -- be them friends, people from a support group, or people in your community -- that will be there for you and help you through the journey. You're strong and amazing just as you are, so remember that :)
@mandminla Amen! And you are sharing your story in order to lift others up and help them through. Cowards only work to drag others into their own despair so they have company. Thanks for sharing your story!
@29kevin29 I'm so glad your'e comfortable now being who you are. It takes courage and sometimes a lot of time to reach that point, but it's truly a great thing to be able to live your life fully and honestly. Thanks for commenting :)
@Boy22100 Gracias por tu comentario! I had a tough time telling my dad because he was a strong Christian, but he chose to accept me over his religious beliefs and is now one of my biggest allies. Al final y al cabo, todo saldrá bien, y te deseo un montón de felicidad. Te lo mereces. Un abrazo!
@adoringcarmine I know it's hard to believe and understand these videos as you're living through the bad times, but thousands of people have stepped forward to deliver this message because it really is true. Life will never be perfect, and things aren't always going to be looking up, but overall, things get better. And in the end, you'll see that the memories you'll make and the good times you'll have will be so worth sticking around for. Stick in there :)
@blainebill39 I can't even imagine the pain he must've been in. Hopefully this project reaches those who are in the same situation and causes them to take pause and reconsider their decision. Take care :)
@TheAndrewreloaded They are! Just hang in there and you'll see how much better things get. Life is an exciting (and sometimes rough) journey that's out there for you to discover.
@griffi41 Wow, thank you for that. I still have my moments of shame and discomfort, and I don't know if that will ever go away. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't change anything about myself, and that's the important part. You're doing your part by just being out and being who you are, so thank you to you :)
@proboi522 That's why I did it. I couldn't sit back idly, knowing that my story -- along with the thousands upon thousands of others -- could really make a difference in the lives of kids out there struggling with who they are and whether they want to continue to live. Thanks so much for the feedback :)
@TheCaptan200 You are entitled to your religious beliefs and to practice as you wish, but when you start to throw out words like "disorder" and "wrong," that's where your religion starts to hurt others. The implied message in those words is that we're broken, and it's this mindset is what drives so many LGBT people to suicide. Instead of breaking people down, use your religion to support tolerance, love and a better unity among all of God's people.
This video could apply not only to people who are gay and cannot accept it and move on, but also to any kind of human dispair, pain and hardship...cause it speaks about HOPE, what Jesus had been talking about too...Never let go, such a wonderful life! - also, you are very attractive and charming man, xaxa -!!
First thing you have to feel better about who you are, before you start tell your friends and family that you are gay ...I think kids these day think are very afraid to tell their parents that they are gay .. but there is help out their for them ... never be afraid who are,god will always love you no matter what ...
@saulofers Never say never. I don't know your situation and would never tell you to do something that could endanger your life, but hold on to the hope that one day it really does get better. Who you are is NOT wrong; God doesn't make mistakes. Always feel free to reach out to me or the thousands of other people who have gone on the record in these videos to spread the word that life is worth living and that things get better.
@blainebill39 With the thousands of videos to go through, there's absolutely no need to apologize. Thank you for taking the time to respond to mine, though. It means a lot to me that this video has been seen and struck a chord with people. Take care :)
@mandminla Yeah I feel bad about the suicides that take place because people make fun of them. Thank you for respecting my religion and I will try harder next time to think about my actions and choice of words.
@AlexandraLindahl What an amazing statement. And you will see that it's true. Everyone goes through their own ups and downs in life, but at the end, it's an amazing journey that you deserve to stick around and experience. Best of luck with everything :)
Wow Matt I think I just fell in love with you. But like most good gay men, I bet your already taken. I remember the coming out of Ellen. I think we are so lucky to be alive today to witness the change cause it is coming! When I was younger I totally thought I was going to find a girl who was good enough too. Looking back that is crazy. I can't believe I was going to accept that kind of life. Life is a crazy, scary, funny, journey. Thanks for sharing a little bit of your life with us. ;)
@bwoodtrumpet2014 The true sign of a strong person: throw out hateful speech while hiding behind your computer screen. You must feel so much better about yourself now that you let that out. In all honesty, your comment made me chuckle a little. Spineless people who taunt via the Internet aren't the real threat. While I posted a video of myself, made myself vulnerable, and exposed myself to the world, you cast judgment through a made up screen name with no way to trace it back to you. So cowardly
I know this video is serious, and the man in the video is serious as well. I just can't deny that I didn't really listen to what he was saying, because he's so hot. I imagined us running away together! We'd tour London in wool coats while sipping hot coffee on the Thames. Oh.............sigh.....I'm so pathetic. Now, I'm imagining us in Spain in late November....touring the countryside in our convertible Jaguar....... I need a man!
What if there are no signs of things getting better? Maybe it does for some people, but this isn't true for everyone. This isn't solely because of being among the lgbt folks, but because of a job which pays abysmally, health issues, among other things. And the gay guys on the dating apps are absolutely nasty to each other. I'm almost 44 years old and still single. I'm not sure where in New York you are as it's a big state, but we are in the same state.
Hi I just want to tell you that your video has hit home to me. I’m not out and I'm struggling with this. I feel like my world is collapsing. I am currently married and have 2 adult children and I've been living a lie for such a long time. I'm so confused and just don't know how to handle this. I feel that I've let down my marriage and am feeling extremely guilty! I just wanted to share this with someone! Thank you
This is one of the best it gets better videos I have watched. Brilliant man. Sincere, simple and effective. I hope many people see your vid. Thank you!

I came out to my parents just few days ago, and now it seems it's gonna get really better for me and them too. Thank you for this video.
i saw it and started to cry.. of what you're talking about is such a great motivation.. thanks a lot!
This is SO inspirational to me. I see that glow in your eyes that speaks by itself. You look truly happy and complete. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us.
@braziliaan Thanks for commenting on it. I'm glad it resonated with you.
Thanks Matt... Thanks for open you heart and make me feel hope from your experience that somehow things in my life are going to be better!!
I absolutely love the sincerity of your message. It touched me a lot and represented what I experienced in my life. True it gets better... We become strong and better humans. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Matt - thanks for your candidness and sincerity. A touching video!

I completely understnad your points. I am struggling and in a bout of depression because my family control me.
Thanks for posting this video Matt!

Just came out...I have a long journey ahead, but I'm ready :)
@mandminla Love your comment!! You are SO right. Thank you!!
@ayoub2tabs Wow, that's one of the nicest things I've ever heard. Thank you so much!!
I just know that coming out isn't still an option. I just feel like who I am is wrong and I'll never be able to express that...

This is a very powerful message about parents ashamed of their gay children. Really, this is the ultimate bullying.
@TheAndrewreloaded They are! Just hang in there and you'll see how much better things get. Life is an exciting (and sometimes rough) journey that's out there for you to discover.
@mayankrocker Thanks so much! That means a lot to me!

great video Matt, a lot of what you talked about reminds me of my life. Good on you for the positive message you are giving young GLBT's
