  • The new Elton John biopic “Rocketman” tells the amazing story of the life and career of the legendary British musician. In the movie, directed by Dexter Fletcher, Elton John is portrayed by Taron Egerton. From how to sing to how to play piano to how to move around on stage, there was a lot Egerton had to get right. We spoke with Michael L. Roberts, the movie’s pianist and vocal coach, about how he helped Egerton train for the role. Through weeks of rigorous training, Egerton was able to nail performances of such classic songs as “Rocket Man” and “Crocodile Rock.”
    Correction: We pronounce Taron Egerton's name EGG-erton, when it's EDGE-erton.
    Thanks to Michael L. Roberts for speaking with us!

      @@aluccxxs7621 Rami didn't sing in Bohemian Rhapsody though. In Rocketman Taron did ALL the singing and ALL the acting. I understand that Rami did very well, and both movies are great. But I think her point is, with the amount of effort and how much Taron had to learn for example piano, I think her point is he deserves an Oscar.

      It's all a bit loud for my taste. Call me boring but I'm more of a fan of The Kingsmen 'uniform'. Which isn't too different from the attire of Bond or Wick as it happens. What I find most impressive is how much these guys do in clothing that I find only suitable for standing upright and walking at a casual pace. Any other form of movement makes me wish I was wearing anything else (well not literally, as I don't think I have the personality for Elton's style, and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with the attention his clothing would attract). I'm more a disappear-in-a-crowd kinda guy. I'd make a terrible popstar. Or I'd look as dull as Brian Ferry!

    Taron is so bloody fantastic in this movie! I've always liked Elton's music, but Taron brought a special kind of passion to it that I've rarely seen an actor do. He went above and beyond to record every song with his own spin on them, completely nailed them all, and proved that he has incredible range as an actor. This dude is going places. I really hope the academy doesn't ignore this one

      Totally agree. Taron's quite a talent. Like most I really enjoyed his work in the first Kingsmen movie, but I wasn't sure he'd turn out to be such a versatile and talented actor/performer. Let's hope he steers clear of Robin Hood-quality films in future and puts his abilities to good use. It would be odd to see the star of this years musical biopic win, after last year. But it's not unimaginable. He has the talent (not that Hollywood's particularly about that!), and the Academy does love a true story, and drama with a hint of redemption. And Taron is white, so that's in his favour (I'm joking, I think the actor, from what I've seen, appears deserving and a good fit for the award).

And if they ever decide to do The Rolling Stones, with the CGI de-aging tech available now they could have Jagger play himself! He's done acting of some sort in the past if I remember correctly.

    • @quantumjet253
      @quantumjet253 5 років тому +4

      @@emmafichter8744 Interesting. Just looked it up and it appears to be going a slightly different route than that of the Elton John and Freddie Mercury films. It's going to centre on a very specific time-frame within Bowie's career, and (for me at least) the time around his best music. I've actually seen a documentary that covers this period when he first arrived to tour America; if you're interested I'd highly recommend checking it out, dunno it's name, sorry, but it's a fascinating insight into Bowie, the man behind the performer.
      I've not heard of the lead actor for Stardust but interestingly he does have a musical background. But you've got to wonder how this will compare to Rocket Man and Bohemian Rhapsody! Let's hope it's lives up to those and proves to be another interesting journey into one of music's biggest and most influencial stars! Makes you wonder if Pop/Rock star biopics will end up rivalling the Marvel Cinematic Universe in sheer number and popularity!? Yeah, maybe not, although a team-up movie (admittedly a complete work of fiction) with David, Freddie and Elton, and whoever else joins this movie-universe, in a super group battling stars of Death Metal or Country would be... erm... maybe not!
      Anyway, thanks for the heads up. I'm very curious to see how Stardust turns out.

Bohemian Rhapsody was all over the place badly put together. Even though I’m more of a Queen fan, I know rocketman is better. Even though Rami is a great actor. He impersonated Freddie. The only people who insult it are those who are either lazy, ignorant, or lack the intellectual capacity to understand not all variations of the Phonecian/Latin alphabet are pronounced the same way as it is in English. English doesn't have the moral authority on how Letters should be Pronounced. If anything, it's the other way around seeing how Welsh was using this alphabet several centuries before the English. But hey, ignorance is Bliss.

      ...The English establishment sacked every Welsh speaking teacher in Wales and replaced them with English only speaking teachers, when the children were caught speaking Welsh, they were beat after class. It's also called "The Treachery of the Blue Books". These effects are still present today, many Welsh children grow up looking down on their language in order to score points with the English.
      Side note - It's happened twice, the first time under the Norman kings of England was effectively stopped thanks to Elizabeth the First who ordered the Bible translated into Welsh.
