I have a great ambivalence towards Jeremy Clarkson. He was 100% wrong for punching a Top Gear producer and deserved to be fired from his job. However, I support 100% his decision to punch Piers Morgan. And I would encourage others to do likewise, whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Clarkson was wrong about the BBC being unable to sack him anymore. He had been the guest presenter 13 times between 2002 and 2015, but this was the last appearance he ever had on HIGNFY.
I'm not British so my only exposure to this show is through UA-cam, but man is it so much funnier than anything produced in the Czech Republic. Even if I don't understand some of the jokes and political references. Wish Clarkson did more episodes, his "no fucks given" personality is very fitting to this.

I prefer how Merton does it - if he thinks of something funny he says it, but if he doesn't he keeps out of it. Also, I thought Clarkson took it rather well. Sometimes people get bent out of shape - usually politicians - but they need to learn to laugh and carry on. One of the reasons Boris Johnson achieved some popularity on HIGNIFY was that he *mostly* took the abuse and laughed it off.

I don't know what Osman does on British Television - like what shows he's on - but Clarkson is a world famous celebrity. Translation: People love him. Top Gear as BBC's highest grossing show according to 60 Minutes. Additionally they stated that TopGear brought in 350 million viewers world wide. That viewership brought in a huge amount of revenue streaming into the BBC that enabled them to underwrite a lot of projects they may not have had the money for otherwise. Osman may be talented - I wouldn't know - but what I do know is that his name does not ring out like Clarkson so he should have known better.

If you want some better examples of preconceived dislike, check out the episode when Johnson presents and see how they have a go at him, or any of the episodes where Farage appears (while I dislike him utterly I have to say that he does take the jokes against him in good spirit) or the wonderful moment when Hislop has a go at Johnny Mercer (which is not even funny!), or even worse when the whole lot of them spend thirty minutes ripping Angus Deayton . Then compare those to the relatively light treatment that Clarkson got. If you are simply saying that Osman went to far, well I would even agree with you. It would have been much more effective had he just got out a couple of gags and then moved on. But there you go. It was the heat of the moment, and it's easy with hindsight. But if you are really trying to say that Osman shouldn't say anything because Clarkson earns more money than you, well I can only reply that you must be an American. I've always thought that, even by the standards of HIGNFY, Richard Osman was way too harsh and insulting, bordering on outright rudeness, towards Jeremy Clarkson during this episode. It almost seemed as if Richard had a personal grievance against Clarkson.
That whole En Garde joke wound me up (mildly) when this first went on-air. It's not En Garde, it's On Guard, as in "Transmitting on the Guard frequency", an internationally recognised frequency that pilots monitor. I know, nerdy right.

So, while I won't pretend that he has made as much money for the BBC (since that seems to be your yardstick) he certainly has created more programmes with more varied content than Clarkson. And is therefore in a position to criticise him.
I would also point out that Clarkson was perfectly capable of coming back to Osman - which he did - and also came on the show at a moment when he knew he was going to get ripped to shreds by all the panel. Which he did. He was actually quite brave to do so, and you should be concentrating on that, not on a few witty barbs thrown out by a panel member. Whether Osman likes Clarkson or not is beside the point. His job there and then was to take the mickey out of Clarkson, which he did to great effect apparently since it's managed to piss you off so much. If you want some better examples of preconceived dislike, check out the episode when Johnson presents and see how they have a go at him, or any of the episodes where Farage appears (while I dislike him utterly I have to say that he does take the jokes against him in good spirit) or the wonderful moment when Hislop has a go at Johnny Mercer (which is not even funny!), or even worse when the whole lot of them spend thirty minutes ripping Angus Deayton . Then compare those to the relatively light treatment that Clarkson got.
If you are simply saying that Osman went to far, well I would even agree with you. It would have been much more effective had he just got out a couple of gags and then moved on. But there you go. It was the heat of the moment, and it's easy with hindsight. But if you are really trying to say that Osman shouldn't say anything because Clarkson earns more money than you, well I can only reply that you must be an American. With, of course, a grin on my face, because that is satire. Have a good day, y'all.

The problem with the tampon, or anything related to menstruation, is that most of the men in parliament are rather reluctant to discuss it. I swear you can almost hear some of them desperately wishing to themselves that they were back in The Good Old Days - when we got locked in a hut outside the village for a week.
