Pirate DVD horror returns back again! Stuart and Alec dissect some bootleg media featuring Star Wars, Batman, Little, Tom Hanks and some Bruce Willis film we'd never heard of.
As a child, my father got me a pirate copy of the film 'Cars' when it came out in 2006, from his dodgy Chinese friend. Basically, some guy had shot it on a camcorder in the back of the cinema. I know this, because halfway through, there was an announcement to say that someone's lost child had been found and was at the reception, and then some lady got up, and her silhouette crossed the screen. Just before the race at the end, the video stopped, and there was a panicked rustling as the guy got caught filming and was presumably thrown out of the cinema....
The sad thing is Stusrl Uttle was later falsely arrested when an arrest warrant for Stusrl Tuttle got misprinted due to a fly falling into the machine.
Upon producing the 10 in 1 Bluray menu, the creator was careful to use some royalty free music. "I can't use licensed music, that's just morally wrong!" they thought, as they burned 9 films on to the disc. (I'm guessing it's royalty free, anyway. Surely??)
I had a pirate copy of the Lion king once on VHS and it was recorded in the cinema and when Simba calls out for his dad after stampede passed a person in the audience shouted "Yes?" That had me howling.
I used to own a pirated version of The Prisoner of Azkaban. It did feature the movie in 720p, however, the intro to the movie + the menu display The Polar Express instead.
Somewhat amusingly in hindsight, the New Hope bootleggers decided to add a fake copyright notice for Buena Vista -- also known as Disney's distribution label.
Even more amusingly in hindsight, they put E-Wings on the front cover, which are now actually in a modern piece of Star Wars media, being briefly featured in Ahsoka.
"Angriff der Klonkrieger" actually translates to "attack of the clone fighters" rather than attack of the clones and it is the legit German title. I love it when Ashens tries to pronounce German phrases!
@@M-Star1003 Yes, you are correct. I commented this 5 years ago, I don't think the word "warrior" was in my vocabulary back then. But fighter is not that far off.
i remember buying a shrinkwrapped bootleg set of "the complete monty python's flying circus". 4 of the discs at the back of the box were missing, and one disc was a chinese copy of GET CARTER.
I had a rather convincing bootleg of Spy Kids 2 it was rated R for hardcore sex and violence on the back and had descriptions of two completely different movies there was also an odd white powder in the Box
When visiting my sister in law she bought some DVDs to us to watch, one was a new film that had only just started showing at cinemas and not yet officially released on DVD. I was expecting a crappy cam job filmed in a cinema but it was really good quality, there were occasional lines of text across the top saying 'preview copy - not for release'. At the end there were no credits, just the music and a screen blank apart from a line of text saying 'credits go here'.
Does anyone else like not understand why people watch "cam" versions of films at all? Like you watch films to be entertained, it's not something you actually have to do. It's not like buying a low quality car because you need to get to work, or a cheap phone because you need to be able to call people. No one is ever in a situation where they achually need to have seen a film. If you are watching a film at all it's because you want a bit of entertainment, so why would you not want it to be the best quality?
i understand and can explain it, in the uk at least the cinema is very expensive for what it is, and with the quality of movies being hit and miss people dont want to pay for what will end up being a shit film, what i do is i watch it online as cam (cam quality can be really good most cams are 1080p and some are even 4k) and if i enjoy the movie i will go to the cinema to see it in Imax if its worth that, i did it with infinity war as i was let down by the string of shitty marvel movies before but, infinity war was good so i went to see it properly
Wow. "Catch Me if You Can", a Spielberg film, starring two of the highest billing actors in Hollywood, that has a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and they pick one of the 4% of reviewers that was lukewarm about it to feature on the back of their bootleg.
Oh gods, the shot of the menu for The Prince gave me flashbacks from those bad old days of filmstrips with tapes from school days. Yes I am older than dirt.
Someone risked jail time by pirating Stuart Little 3. Just think about that for a moment. They had thousands of movies to choose to copy, and they said "this one!". Also, I think all 10 of those movies on that one dvd are on Netflix. Probably an easy source to grab movies to pirate.
@@ignaciocue Do we not? lol. People are all out these days commanding others on how to live their own lives, one wouldn't be unreasonable to conclude that we did live in a fascist society
I had Stuart Little 3 on a pirate DVD with Stuart Little and Stuart Little 2. The DVD I had came with other films that weren't Stuart Little-related though.
Wait... When I was a kid we had phantom menace on video. I remember it being super blurry, but I thought it was normal? Now as an adult I realise that it must have been a pirate copy :O My grandma once gave me a Stuart Little 3 DVD. 'But it's Stuart Little!' she said, 'You like Stuart Little.' I tried, in the politest possible way, to explain that the original two films were not animated, they were live action and CGI. She looked rather shocked. 'But kids films are animated!' :/
I once had a pirated dvd of cars that when you put it in for a second you could see a grown man dressed as lighting McQueen and then it was just a cam footage of cars for around 2-3 minutes then it played the whole movie in HD. I have so many terrible old DivXes that I'm not sure what to do with any more... on the one hand they're painful to watch on anything larger than a small laptop screen from halfway across the room... on the other, replacing them all will be an expensive chore (the real standouts got legitimised a long time ago) and whilst the couple hundred gigs they consume once seemed like a humongous amount of space, it's worth buttons these days...

I think I downloaded that cam of Episode 2 in 2002 on my school's T1 line lol. IIRC most cams then were distributed as MPEG-1 VCD images. Video-8 tape put through multiple rounds of shitty lossy compression yo.
kxSVCD better though... (no, I'm not making that acronym up) ... quasi DVD resolution plus 2-pass variable bitrate encoding and a custom MPEG matrix. Get your movie onto just two, or if you're jammy even a single CDR, and still have it be fairly watchable. I used a flavour of it to cram Spirited Away onto a single 8cm mini CD once, without using MPEG-4... it was a touch blocky on the highest motion scenes, and was best viewed on a 14" CRT TV (which happened to be all I had at the time), but it worked... Modern chinese VCDs are a sort of variant of that, essentially half-rez DVD spec video recorded on CD instead... though the only reason to keep them going now is for people who never upgraded their SVCD players to DVD, as the blanks are about as much as each other and DVDs take hardly any longer to encode and burn vs how things were for us VCD experimenters 15+ years ago.
Oh my God! VCD reminds me of SVCD, which was fit on an audio CD. I had dozens if not hundreds of those format burned on to audio CDs in the early noughties. Back when blank DVDs were actually expensive. I actually have something like 500 blank DVDs now, people just give them to me from time to time because they aren't worth anything anymore. Very useful for backing up my games collection!
+EckZaKel That's probably exactly what's happened, at least for some of them. +zwz-zdenek ... I dunno, that seems like it'd be too much effort for yer typical bulk pirate. It's probably OCRed instead. They're very OCRish mistakes.
To be fair, when he tweeted has nothing at all to do with when he actually filmed the video. I'm currently thinking about an essay I have to write, but I won't actually write it for a couple of weeks.
Or, he's uploading videos on the other side of the planet, where it's day when we're at night. And also, you don't have insomnia because you want to stay up late looking at your tiny bright screen.
The worst pirated movie i've yet come across was not only recorded with a handheld cam in a cinema, but ALL the dialogue had been replaced* by ONE polish voice "actor" who read out all the line in his preumably only voice; a really dead-pan one. Oh what joy! *When i said replaced i actually meant it was dubbed on top of the original soundtrack, which you could hear beneath the voice "actor".
Just minutes before this was uploaded I was considering buying a Neon Genesis Evangelion bootleg off of Ebay due to the official releases ungodly price tag... reconsidering after watching this in fear of wasting my 20 bucks.
Anime bootlegs can be worse then other bootlegs. Especially if you need the subtitles to understand what is going on. I had a friend buy a Darker than Black DVD that had the video partially cut off, and the subs were were obviously translated Japanese->Chinese->English.
TempoFunktron Pretty sure you're thinking of the right one. It's got the whole series plus both films across 4 DVDs. Says "Animation City International Limited" on the back. Also if I do end up purchasing it I will most certainly burn the porn parody to a DVD.
I found a bunch of Pirated Star Trek TV shows at a thrift store one time. It was just a bunch of regular discs with regular printer paper with logos of Star Trek glued onto the disc. It looked like a regular DVD but I thought it looked funny so I opened it (they were in clear DVD cases) and the paper lable was coming off because the glue wasn't strong enough. The best part is that it was kinda like a Goodwill store where people donate items so they didn't make any money off of it.
Terminator 3 WAS released by both WB and Columbia at the same time just in different territories. I was in China in 2004 and visited a DVD store with hundreds of titles yet could only find one original disc which was a region 3 import from Hong Kong.
I still have a Harry Potter from a charity shop to send it from last time, plus an extra I found. I have a bootleg Cobra game for the GBA that has a review slagging it off on the box! I will have to feature it on my channel eventually.

Omg, I've got a stitch in my side because I'm laughing so hard. 😂
the blurbs are like if someone wrote the text in english, translated it into Chinese and then translated it back into English.
After a bottle of sherry and a few hits of kratom.
Not even close. It's simply typed from a print by a Chinese person. I don't reckon you'd fare so well trying to type some Chinese text.
+EckZaKel That's probably exactly what's happened, at least for some of them.
+zwz-zdenek ... I dunno, that seems like it'd be too much effort for yer typical bulk pirate. It's probably OCRed instead. They're very OCRish mistakes.
Im not British, but...its about bloody time you did another one of these! Lol
I remember seeing your tweet asking about the E-wing fighters. Holy shit you record these videos stupidly far in advance.
To be fair, when he tweeted has nothing at all to do with when he actually filmed the video.
I'm currently thinking about an essay I have to write, but I won't actually write it for a couple of weeks.
I can totally see collecting these, absolute comedy gold!
When Stuart said cel-shaded I wasn't expecting Wind Waker-looking graphics. A pleasant surprise!
Awesome video, Stusrl ! Can't wait for episode 3 in 2036!
Ashens posting videos at times to suit insomniacs :)
Or Australians :P
Or, he's uploading videos on the other side of the planet, where it's day when we're at night. And also, you don't have insomnia because you want to stay up late looking at your tiny bright screen.
@@Knifegash I bet you're fun at parties
@@grimsleybishopafton5840 I bet you're such a unique and original person.
When I'm bored on night shift and a new ashens video turns up. 😃
If you could come to mexico, you would have a field day with these pirate DVDs. We have tons of those, also CDs, toys, videogames, blurays too.
'Christopher Walken, excellent as always'. Excellent is an understatement.
one of the best youtube videos ive seen in a while made me laugh a lot and want see more of these
I found the batman begins cards from one of his old videos in a water park in crete.
I've never been so excited for a video and never clicked so fast. It made me question what I'm doing with my life but meh I'm happy for now.
Just minutes before this was uploaded I was considering buying a Neon Genesis Evangelion bootleg off of Ebay due to the official releases ungodly price tag... reconsidering after watching this in fear of wasting my 20 bucks.
Conky it might be funny tho
Anime bootlegs can be worse then other bootlegs. Especially if you need the subtitles to understand what is going on. I had a friend buy a Darker than Black DVD that had the video partially cut off, and the subs were were obviously translated Japanese->Chinese->English.
TempoFunktron Pretty sure you're thinking of the right one. It's got the whole series plus both films across 4 DVDs. Says "Animation City International Limited" on the back. Also if I do end up purchasing it I will most certainly burn the porn parody to a DVD.
You haven't torrented it yet? lol?
Nine Genesis Ewanmcgregor.
Thats David Belle in Brick Mansions not Gerard Butler. He is also in Banlieue 13 and Banlieue 13: Ultimatum which are also featured on that dvd.
Terminator 3 WAS released by both WB and Columbia at the same time just in different territories. I was in China in 2004 and visited a DVD store with hundreds of titles yet could only find one original disc which was a region 3 import from Hong Kong.
I actually have that Batman Begins DVD. It also came with quite a nice sleeve with the same GLARING mistake on the back. Still, a fantastic copy.
Oh gosh these are so funny! Please don't wait another 2 years to make another one

Still a better watch than the Prince TV series on HBO.
Ashens it was nice seeing you at blackpool Expo today :) (Raven)
I still have a Harry Potter from a charity shop to send it from last time, plus an extra I found.
I have a bootleg Cobra game for the GBA that has a review slagging it off on the box! I will have to feature it on my channel eventually.
@@KlonoaPrime And that has what to do with this?
I'm wholeheartedly proud to hear Stuart acknowledging my country as the Mecca of Pirated DVDs.
Ironically, after seven years' wait, the official DVD releases also ported the Laserdisc transfers for the theatrical cuts. 😂😭
I propose that that DVD menu music be the new theme song of this series.
I audibly said "no fucking way" when this showed up. I commented on an earlier Ashens video saying that I wanted to see another one of these. He listened!
It was all for you, you lucky thing ;)
I imagine 1980sGamer might be joking ;-)
go away... That's not my ego talking bud. I'm pleased that he made a part 2.
This is the funniest ashes video in a while.
I like how on the t3 box , the stunts were done by dicky beer
Not enough time was spent on “pack your bogs” 😂💩
