No! This is not depressing. Stop thinking you could never make this level of work. Yes you can, you can make so much better. Be consistent. Learn new things everyday. Don't give up. Be greateful for the opportunities you DO have and appreciate your OWN talent as an artist, don't compare yourselves to other artists, instead, look at the strengths and weaknesses of your and other works, then use that to improve keep getting better. Have this mindset and you have got this.
Hate to break it down for you but no you wont get this lvl unless you have a industry professional as a teacher. People often believe that "self tought" brings you this far. Nope it doesnt. Only a tiny percentage of self tought people will ever reach this lvl. Reason for that is the big amount of misinformation provided by a lot of youtubers who werent in a studio ever.
@@klauszwegert6382 If someone just take UA-cam as guiders and there are a lots of youtubers that have worked in a big studio, there are literrally a lots of other information online, you just need to know how to get it, like question good artists in social medias on how to improve, artstation classes that in this year are for free, Udemy classes, Gnomon workshops, and a lot of softwares have free tutorials created by great artists, so dont say idiot things like that , I know a lot of self though artists that work in companies like Disney, so dont say people never will reach certain level, the reason why so few people get to that level is because is hard to learn 3d and get to that level and the amount of time that you have to have for this is very big, you just need to get new information every day and not being too comforted with what you have.

@@srsaito9262 no there are trainings only thought on school like real sculpting, paintings, drawings etc. Hands on activities that doesnt need computers but are necessary to build those skills.
@@likha360 I did not say that school is worse than self thought, of course I recomend everyone that can to do school, but if you really think that learning painting, drawing and sculpting you can ONLY learn with school this is just excuse, there are thousands of painters ilustrators and even some sculptors that learned alone and are making good money, in fact to enter Gnomon and other art schools you have to know drawing, and some schools even ask painting and sculpting. Edit: Zbrush is just a tool you can learn the same things with it just like you can learn using real clay, as the same you can learn the same things with a pencil just like you can learn with Photoshop, so stop making excuses even to enter Gnomon is hard and some strugle years learning to enter there, but they do it, and achieve it just like people that strugle years using self thought to enter industry of course is not easy but not impossible either.
What I like most about a student showreel of a school of this quality, is that the creativity is on a whole other level than compared to an average university where most people stick to basic ideas. Here I can see Everyone is Running completely wild with their imagination, and dont concern themselves with "can I do it", they just thing of something, and find a way to do it. Inspiring work

I keep saying to myself, "student work, student work, student work!" These don't look like anything I did as a student or ever saw done. If I could do it again I'd just go to Gnomon. If anybody is reading and watching this Gnomon is like Hogwarts. Especially if you already love vfx and 3d work in highschool. Go here!

How long ago were you a student? Tools have improved a lot in taking care of heavy lifting and providing more intuitive interactions. Doesn't mean you don't still need artistic skill/talent, just more technical barriers between translating artistic vision into product are reduced.
Amazing work by these students. It's really insane how far technology has come and you can see it in some of these projects, the particles, the lighting, shadows, animation, etc. it's all very fluid. Great work!
If you enter this academy you will feel like you're in war, competition in every corner. I bet people would feel hyped watching this, they feel like "I need to become better" "I need to prove them I'm better" Well that's how I felt when watching this video

I really can't even begin to relay felicitous words to describe this presentation here. This phenomenal work completed by students of next-gen clearly have an amative passion for the subject at hand. Here I was trying my best to keep my Psychiatry up above water and sure enough, subconsciencly I continued to scroll comment after comment, until I veered into that same feeling of depression more vigorously than a glacier welcoming the titanic. There is one statement I would like to present to some of the others who have commented here; the tools of today for i.e. VFX, audioFX, animation, modeling, have had what I guess you could say 'recent boom’. FX-software quality and quantity appear to be magnitudes more powerful, more obtainable, and even more affordable. The necessitated time to get towards a polished project has continually been reduced; having said that, the complexity of todays and tomorrows FX has had a reciprocal effect and continues to grow with expectations certainly not going stagnant anytime soon. Point being that for some, if you were look back at your situation then, would this still impose a depressed self-outlook, if tools such as *cough* ‘Quixel’ *cough*, Allegorithmic Substance, UE4, Houdini, etc. were merely a few clicks away, not to mention having what feels like indefinite sources to find references of probably every known element…? Congratulations to everyone here - I don't doubt for a moment, that we surely have not seen the last of these names here. I'm so ecstatic just thinking about what sort of games\entertainment we are going to be seeing come to fruition here with students making stuff like this already today...that definitely brings some excitement!

There are a lot of Gnomon students who started working in 3D for the first time at Gnomon, and these demo reels are made as projects in the school so 2 years is usually enough. It could be done faster of Gnomon was a bit more specialized.

Just wow .And tehere is big difference among students.Someone just made a character with not great detalisation. Someone modelled environment and character and made animation for him all that textured and rendered.
Damn, this really is amazing. Just becoming 16 I really hope to be able to go to gnomon one day, however chances are slim. I already have 4 years of 3d experience, however my works don’t come near to what these students have done. Would someone have shown me this without saying who did this, never would I have said students. These guys really are the best of the best
I am three times older than you are and I too have four years of 3D experience. It could not possibly bother me less that I am 47 years old. The software that I use now did not exist on anything like the level it does now even three years ago, so as an amateur enthusiast, if I ask myself "Would I rather be 25 again and it be 1998?" I would not. I would much, much rather be here and now - even at the ripe old age of 47 - and have CGI in my life than it be 20 years ago and sat wondering what the hell to do with my time. You are going to be as good - and very possibly better - than a lot of these students one day. By the time you are 25 you are going to have nearly 15 years' experience behind you. Do not be like some of the people on here and say how 'depressing' it is seeing skills like these. Be inspired by the fact that you live in an era where CGI is available to everyone and that you can learn a hell of a lot for absolute no outlay. Wishing you all the very, very best for the future. One day you will be 47 years old and - if like me - your love if CGI will only improve as time goes on.
