What is that thing that moves when you rev up the engine, and I don't mean the one that goes to the throttle. I mean that thing that is near the cylinder inlet. It's controlled by vacuum I think.

Hi Buddy its the actuator for the variable intake manifold butterfly valves. A clever design by Yamaha who developed the cylinder heads for Toyota on the 4AGE and the 3SGE and 3SGTE engines. Basically at lower RPM the manifold is effectively longer allowing for better torque and mixture control and then at around 4200 RPM the valves open which shortens the manifold allowing air to get in much faster and increasing power - you can actually feel it kick in. It's like a kind of VTEC feeling similar to honda type r engines 👍🇯🇵👌

Nice work Paul I doubt I’ll ever own an MR2 but always good watching you work 👏

Great work Paul! Hard to believe it could even run/idle with that cap and rotor. Your back deserves a rest and your elbow grease produced a great shine. I love hearing your British terms too; Earth=ground, Hoover=vacuum, King lead=coil wire, Waxoyl=rust-oleum, etc. MOT=??❤😊

Surprised it was firing at all with the state of the dizzy cap and rotor arm. Good job 👍

I know ! The coil must have been working overtime to jump that gap 🤔😟

The white shelf behind you with those oils on it looks a bit over loaded. It dips in the middle. That's the only advise I can offer😂😂 ..Great clip as ever 👍

Great job as usual! Surprised it would idle/run at all with that cap and rotor. Love hearing your British terms; Earth=ground, King=coil wire, Jubilee=hose clamp, Hoover=vacuum, MOT=???❤😊 Enjoyed!

You mentioned that the cap was £70 but how much did you pay for the rotor arm ?
