The characters Miku writes spell "World Domination". Paul Young once sung Wherever i lay my hat (that's my home) but when Akane got home from band practice & found him there she kicked him out....& stomped on his large hat. Well World Domination had to start somewhere :)
@@markabusireactions No worries. I've sent a grovelling email to my sister in the vain hope she might buy me some & drop it off on her way home from work.😖🤞
Kanami just seems to compose and play SO MANY catchy riffs. Then Misa and Akane kick in with the bass and drums. Then we get Saiki's and Miku's always interesting vocals. WHAT A BAND!!!!!
Band-Maiko was an April Fool's Day prank on April 1, 2018. The members wear maiko (apprentice Geisha, Geisha means 'arts person' trained in music and dance) outfits, Miku rewrote the lyrics in the Kyoto dialect, where most Geisha now come from. The solo is also in Domination, so they must like it.
Nice to meet you. I always enjoy looking at your works. I am Japanese and I would like to explain the lyrics used in this song. (I try to comment on Band-Maiko's reactions with this explanation, so I know some of you guys who read this comment section have already read it somewhere else, but I'll post it here as well.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In all the songs of BAND-MAIKO, Saiki uses the word called "京ことば Kyo-kotoba (Kyoto dialect)". The Kyo-kotoba has many special phrases that are different from the so-called "Kansai-ben (Kansai region dialect. Kyoto is included in the Kansai region)", and even if you are from Kyoto, it is not a word that ordinary people other than maiko and geisha use on a daily basis. Many maiko are not from Kyoto, but when working as a maiko in Kyoto, it is not desirable to use the dialect of the region in which they were born and raised. Therefore, the training content of Maiko includes the acquisition of this Kyo-kotoba. The Kyo-kotoba is, so to speak, a "common language" for maiko and geisha. ※ "Maiko (Pronunciation is my-ko)" means a person in the apprenticeship stage of Geiko (Geisha). The Japanese instrumental sounds used are 三味線 Shamisen A Shamisen is a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument derived from the Chinese instrument sanxian. It is played with a plectrum called a Bachi. 琴 Koto Japanese stringed instrument that resembles a zither; has a rectangular wooden sounding board and usually 13 silk strings that are plucked with the fingers. 和太鼓 Wadaiko Japanese drums. 尺八 Shakuhachi A shakuhach is a Japanese longitudinal, end-blown flute that is made of bamboo. However, in fact, the actual instruments are not used, but rather the composer/guitarist KANAMI typed the sounds of the Japanese traditional instruments.
@@markabusireactions Pohojisan did forget one small piece of trivia. When it came time for Saiki to learn the lyrics in Kyoto dialect, her pronunciation was off, and Japanese pronunciation is VERY important, so Miku had to record the correct pronunciation for Saiki to learn from.
I was half expecting to hear the Youoooop from Misa they had in the Band-Maiko version. Misa is my mistress of thunder, her bass sound always makes me happy.
The Secret's out -- Band-Maid is an influential, trendsetting, major force in the music scene! Their huge Yokohama Arena concert on Nov. 26, 2023 was a spectacular 10-year celebration and launch party to the next 10 years of Maid Domination. Thx, Mark!
This song features two of my absolute favourite BM moments - 1) when the pre-chorus after the second verse goes from that stuttering math-metal rhythm into the full-on double-bass mayhem, 2) Misa's bass fill at the beginning of the second verse. I know what you mean about the first half, but tbh that's a recurring feature. The first verse/chorus tends to be deceptively straightforward, then the song becomes increasingly intricate as it goes on. It's like 'please enjoy this simple pop-rock song', then by the time you get to the end you realise you've been hoodwinked into listening to prog. (I also agree they're not a hard rock band. But emo....? Them's fightin' words.) Oh, and everything Band-Maiko does is gold! Check out Gion-Cho, which is a Band-Maiko original.
Hi cutie pie. Sorry, wrong channel A Maiko (May-ko) is a trainee Geisha from Kyoto. A Geisha is an entertainer: musicians, singers, dancers and above all conversationalist. Fun company in other words. Traditionally a Geisha/Maiko wear the Kimono bow on their back. A lady of the night wore them on their front, plus a lot of other differences. (Ladies of the night now wear mini-skirts lol). The "banjo" thing is a Shamisen.
This was an April fools joke by the band. On April 1st 2018 the Band-Maid website and You Tube channel was taken down and replaced by Band-Maiko. All music was removed and replaced with this MV. They stated this was their new direction. They also don't sing in normal Japanese dialect, they sing in Kyoto dialect. They also changed their names: Saiki became Fujiki Miku became Hatoko Kanami became Kanoemi MISA became Umemisa Akane became Akatsuki In 2019 they did it again on April 1st releasing the MV to "Gion-Cho" - the only Band-Maiko original. They also released a seven track EP of Band-Maid covers with added traditional instruments plus "Gion-Cho" "Secret Maiko Lips" (Band-Maids "Secret My Lips") "Akasimahen" (Band-Maids "Awkward") "Ansan" (Band-Maids "Anemone") "Tora and Tora" (Band-Maids "One and Only") "Yolosiosu" (Band-Maids "YOLO") "Screaming" (Band-Maids "Screaming") "Gion Cho" Thanks for the abuse. I think I love you more than Thatcher. xxx
@@markabusireactions Dunno which is worse - Ruining the UK by killing off it's industry, the poll tax and going to war for votes or pausing during a Kanami solo!
A (Mike-oh) is an apprentice Geisha, a (May-ko) is a German dirt bike......Lol! I found and subscribed to a UA-cam channel "Kimono Mom" and she was a real Maiko but is now married and they have an adorable little girl that steals the show when mom is cooking. Pretty fun watch and mom has the beauty and grace of the Maiko and she pronounces it (Mike-oh) too.
@@_JimS Thanks! When I was in Japan I heard it pronounced May-ko quite a few times by Japanese fans (could of been the standard Japanese accent of the fans rather than the correct Kyoto dialect having that effect). But I think an ex Maiko would know!
Hi Mark. I'm an Englishman but living in Scotland.(due to my late partner).I absolutley adore this band. So much so..I have 98% of all there music catalogue and Blu-ray's. And have flown out to Japan twice to see them LIVE in their home country. And at this moment I am on an Express train to visit the quarry used in the their mv "Influencer"...As I am in Japan after seeing the Maids at Yokohama Arena.(fly back to Edinburgh tomorrow via Helsinki). I enjoy your take on the Maids..I hope you continue to stick with them, as the more you hear..the more in love with the band you should become. I do recommend Ohranjies docs on the ladies. Starting with Saiki. Enjoy Po!.
Another BAND-MAID song that sounds like no other BAND-MAID song. It’s one of their best. I suspect that, like me, most BAND-MAID fans formed their musical tastes before Emo was a thing, or just ignored it. I had never hear of Fallout Boy until they appeared on a national (USA) TV commercial for laxatives or insurance or something. Secret Maiko Lips was an April Fools joke that KANAM made by taking the original guitar/bass/drum tracks, adding samples of Shamisen (three-stringed banjo and shakuhachi (bamboo flute), and some percussion blocks. And then SAIKI recorded a new vocal track with new lyrics in the dialect of Kyoto, home of the MAIKO. Later, they created an original BAND-MAIKO song, GION-CHO, which is the district in Kyoto where the traditional GEISHA (“entertainer”) houses are. MAIKO are young, trainee GEISHA. You can tell the difference by their long sleeves. They learn how to play musical instruments, dance, and sing. They are not prostitutes, but as Japan was devastated during WWII, during the Occupation, many Japanese women did what needed to be done to survive, and US GIs come home with that unfortunate notion. BAND-MAID is pronounced バンドメイド (ba-n-do-me-i-do).
Bando-Meido and Bando-Maiko in Japanese, I believe. Maiko are apprentice geisha. You have to admit, Band-Maiko are just as good as Band-Maid -- and much more colourful. And I like the blending of Japanese culture (tea ceremony, maiko games) and in-jokes like Akane eating when the others don't.
I have always liked Band-Maiko, thought it was a cool idea, also love Misa's whooooops in this song I think this is the first time I heard both versions back to back It really makes the traditional instruments stand out even more
I like both versions of SECRET MY LIIPS as the stand on their own. Now, as an avid BAND-MAID fan, I love it when you call us out or poke us in the ribs for our own good. So, you, jokingly, referred to some of us as numpties. I laughed. Hell, when Saiki was asked during a radio show how she handles being in front of the audience, she, jokingly, said she looks at us as potatoes. Most fans loved that comment. In fact, since I am from Idaho (famous for potatoes in the US) I wanted to create a special T-shirt claiming myself to be Saiki's Idaho potato. GREAT REACTION to BAND-MAID as always, Mark.
If you pause during the solo of Unfair Game, you will kick yourself in the head afterwards once you hear it's true complete Majesty. And now you have set up an expectation of TWO, count 'em TWO Band-Maid songs every Monday.
Interesting reaction as always. I'm glad you say what you think and stopping in a guitar solo is a reminder not to take things so serious and have some fun (despite the fact that I think Kanami is surely an Angel). I love both versions. Beyond the music itself, the Band Maiko version is also just plain stunning visually--I think that is especially important for a band that has many fans who don't speak their language. I also find that I can't really see any of their individual songs just on their own any more--everything is part of a continuum.
If pausing during the band-maid solos gives you the kick needed to get through your Mondays, I happily support it 😁 the pizza was great, by the way! The reaction was nice too 😛
A totally scaled back version of the song with the traditional instruments would have been cool, but it only would have worked if they knew how to play those instruments, which I'm guessing they didn't. They were added digitally. The "banjo" is called a shamisen. Wagakki Band is worth checking out because they have members who actually play all of those traditional instruments.
Maikos are trainee Geishas. They are trained to play traditional instruments and serve traditional hospitality. They are not Ladies of Immoral means. Each Band Maiko member had a different name from the Band Maid members although some still claim they are the same people. The very idea. The reason Band Maid fans call The Maids a rock band is it easier to put that title on them. But we all know that the genre they play is Band Maid and it varies from song to song and era to era. The time it took to dress in traditional Maiko clothes and the make up means that the time to learn and play traditional instruments on top of that may have taken a bit too long. Glad Miku and her backing is mentioned. Many a song is made great by her support vocals.
"Secret Maiko Lips" is my preferred studio version. The original version "Secret My Lips" was recorded before Saiki's throat surgery, while Fujiki, the vocalist of Band-Maiko, was singing with a healthy voice. As far as the traditional instruments, playing them is quite different than playing their normal instruments. Leaning completely into it would have either turned it into a completely synthesized version of the music or required bringing in studio musicians. This way, it's still them playing their own instruments with the addition of programmed traditional sounds. The original version is absolutely amazing live, particularly in person, but there's no officially released live version available. BTW, this song is a perfect example of how Saiki and Miku make each other better. This song is right there with "Blooming" for my favorite vocal harmonies. Also, pausing during solos is fine with me. I'm not watching the reaction to listen to the song. That's what Band-Maid's official channel is for.
Let's remember this was just an April 1st prank that got interestingly out of hand in a typical bandmaid way. BTW the cafe maid culture openly draws on geisha culture in many ways.
This is top half for me out of the Band-Maid songs you've reacted to. The bits you picked out, the jazz break and especially the finale, are what sets it apart, but the first 2 and a half minutes are great too. The whole song has a bit of a meditative feel for me, a bit like YOLO and I'll, which you don't know yet. I instantly relax whenever it comes on. Band-Maid have got definite pop-punk influences, and as far as I can tell, Emo is just pop-punk with emotional lyrics. I think you exaggerate that element a bit, but that's fine. Most of the top Japanese bands defy classification, and then just get labelled as "J-rock". Given your comments on the Japanese elements, I recommend "Homura/Akatsuki no Ito" (live) by Wagakki band: ua-cam.com/video/ponTbDDMYjw/v-deo.html . The mandolin-like instrument is a shamisen. P.S. Band-Maid's name in Japanese would be romanised as "Bando Meido", so you are right about the Japanese pronunciation of "ai". And yes, maiko were a bit analogous to maid-cafe maids (not real maids). Neither geisha nor maiko were high-class prostitutes - that's "oiran" (which is the name of a Nemophila song, btw).
See this is why I like you guys. I come in, I listen to the song, I ask random questions cause I’m clueless, and then I spend my Monday evening learning some cool new stuff ☺️☺️
Hi Mark, entertaining video as always, if you wanted a Band-maiko song that sounds more traditional, you could always try Akasimahen (“Awkward” off “just bring it”), or Ansan (“Anemone” off “World Domination”). If you were able to find the live acoustic version of Anemone from a few years ago, you’d be able to do a triple reaction. 😉
Always appreciate your 'treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen' reactions. Spot on too. I love their full acoustic versions, to see this stripped way more back to the traditional instruments would have been most welcome. It's nice but it's essentially just the song with some extra frills layered on top.
What makes that breakdown so special is because the standard heavy guitars during the chorus and verses. It makes the traditional instrumentation stand out even more. If it was all Japanese traditional instrumentation, it wouldn't have the heavy rock element. It would be more neat and interesting rather than rocking. To each their own though. Cheers.
You know Mark, now you MUST pause the solos in every video FROM NOW ON. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 As long as you rewind and play the solo in its entirely it's all good. Peace. 1.78
They mentioned maybe doing some "collaboration" projects in 2024... I'll take straight up BAND MAID written songs over any kind of "collaboration" effort, e.g. The Dragon Cries like you mentioned. They are getting closer and closer to Miku's dream of becoming a world wide phenomenon. I don't want anybody jumping in on the Band Maid band-wagon.
I don't know traditional Japanese instruments but what I think your referring to (the banjo part) is what I'd think is a koto. There's a lovely run playing ascending notes at about 15.28 of your video which I think is a koto. I suspect others below have commented on this, but I think geisha are hostesses/entertainers. They can sing, play instruments, play games, serve meals and prepare drinks. A maiko is someone who is studying to be a geisha. And, since maiko are, like geisha, hosts and entertainers, then I think their role is somewhat similar to the servers in maid cafes. They serve food, sing and provide entertainment with the meal. But in Band-Maid's case, they're serving music. But, I'm only here for the music though. If you're interested to hear just one example of Band-Maids diverse sound, the two songs I'd nominate as light-years apart from each other are Wonderland and Giovanni. Wonderland is a rather jazz inspired song that I'm a fan of. Wonderland sounds to me like someone's music thesis, or at least a dare put before Kanami. It's a great song that came out of nowhere for me and I love it as a showcase for Saiki's vocals. The other song is called Giovanni. This is Band-Maid showing their progressive side. I believe the song is based on a 1927 Japanese fantasy novel called "Night on the Galactic Railroad" and is roughly about two school boys traveling around the Milky Way galaxy on a galactic railroad. The main character is Giovanni. I think the storyteller in the Band-Maid song is roughly mirroring the experiences or emotional journey of Giovanni, who happens to be a reclusive young person. Can't be sure though, the translated song lyrics are tragically uninformative. Lost in translation I suppose.
If you liked Secret Maiko Lips maybe you should check out the WAGAKKI Band (Homura Akatsuki no ito ) 1st Japan Tour 2015 ! They actually play the traditional instruments along with hard rock and metal music =)
The highlight for me is when Miku comes in and harmonizes. Granted she doesn't have the power of Saiki. Sure has more range, higher and lower, and seemingly more control. I, along with many other fans, wish they would make more use of the trading lead vocals technique that was more common in their early years. Just something magical when they mix and match their vocals.
Maiko are not the same as geisha, but can be mistaken for them. Maiko were strictly performers. FYI: If someone hasn't already mentioned it, string instrument you can hear at the very beginning, but wasn't shown is a koto, the flute is called a shakuhachi and the guitar looking instrument is a shamisen...the traditional drum is called a taiko. Also, what most people never catch is that Miku writes World Domination (世界征服-sekai seifuku) in Japanese.
Maiko are apprentice Geisha (also called Geiko in Kyoto dialrct). They dress differently from full-fledged Geisha to distinguish their lower status/rank. Oiran were the "prostitutes".
I don't see it in the comments, so I'll pop it here. The traditional instruments in this song were made using a computer. And not by any of the band members, but one of their behind the scenes people. They had input of course, but this one was pretty much just an experiment, and Kanami didn't know how to use the program at that point. However! (Those about to yell at me that Kanami does everything.) She learned the program by the next year, and is the one who did the instruments for "Gion-cho" and the other tracks that April fools. Mainly cause she thought it was fun, and wanted to try it herself. And being a person who doesn't seem to know what half-assing is, we got a whole CD out of it. Also side topic. I love that they went full WWE promo, and did interviews as Band-Maid's eternal rivals, Band-Maiko. They kept in character the whole time. It was just a quality laugh.
Oh no 😱😱 Really! 🤣😱 Not a channel where we look at the pretty wee women playing music instruments and admire the outfits🤔🤣😱😱😱🤣 Oh Nooo. 🤣😅😂🤣 Never would have guessed.😉 🥰🥰Laughing in Canada🇨🇦
And with that you've heard the one time Misa sings. Geisha weren't exactly prostitutes, they probably offered sex as a service, but officially they weren't supposed to and it probably wasn't the primary expectation. I think the situation was pretty similar to modern Hostess clubs where essentially the main function was to entertain/ego boost men. There was also an expectation that geisha would be competent in various arts, among them music/singing. Specifically "maiko" was a trainee although I couldn't tell you what that process was or if they're accurately maiko within the context of the video. As for the instruments they're using, there are sorta three instruments associated with geisha. The shamisen is the main one, it's basically a banjo. The fue which is sort of a catchall for several different flutes they might have played. The last main instrument was a drum that was more or less a bongo, don't know the name of it. I can't recall if they also sample the koto, basically a harp, which would have been associated with geisha, but I think would have been considered higher skill and probably not played by a maiko. Anyway, that and the reality of how much time it would take to become professionally proficient with these instruments is why I would guess they opted to keep the traditional instruments limited.
You keep right on making segues that lead to nowhere. You being you is what sets you apart from a million others. Thanks for coming back to BAND-MAID! A whole song with traditional stuff would be awesome for non-Japanese, but wouldn't necessarily be nearly so unique for their home audience, and back when this was done, that's who they were making it for. One of the big changes to the song was changing the lyrics to a more formal Kyoto dialect of Japanese.
"Geisha" is a Japanese entertainer. They showed dance and songs for VIP customers in more than 150 years ago in Japan. Some Geisha slept with their customers, but it was prohibited and those Geisha was called as "fallen Geisha". So basically, they were not prostitutes, but purely entertainers. Some Hollywood movies gave wrong impressions about Geisha. "Maiko" is a girl under training to be "Geisha". They were leaning dance, songs, playing music and talks. We, in Japan, still have this culture, however, it is super fancy entertainment such like millionaire's one. If you have a chance to visit to Kyoto in Japan, you still can see Geisha and Maiko in town.
@@markabusireactions I commented too early then realized the video was only half done lol. Love how the reactions had similar parts about the start vs the end of the song

But changed my mind because they have only 2 songs as Band Miako and both were done as April Fools Jokes on their fans. telling them that this was their new look and style. It worked. Just an other time that Band Maid was doing Band Maid things. Miako are apprentice Geisha.

Going further re. the traditional side might have been a step too far for many as the 7 track EP by Band-Maiko continues to sell well and still attracts new fans who think the balance is perfect. I'm pretty sure Kanami spent a few sleepless nights considering every possibility and angle regarding the whole arrangement. Love your reactions- can't stand reactors who play the videos and say nothing some of which even cut the end before it's finished.
Aw thanks man! I really appreciate that! I try my best to chat for at least the same amount of time as the music, or else I might as well just be stealing the music, and that’s hardly a reaction lol
Secret Maiko Lips was the original song that got the traditional treatment and as I understand it, the traditional instruments were a joint programming effort between Kanami, their producer/engineer and an outside programmer as Kanami had no previous experience of programming traditional instruments. However the 6 other songs were I believe done entirely by Kanami and to me there is a world of difference, the traditional instruments and vocal additions are not simply another layer but are also featured at times and are also very playful both instrumentally and vocally. Gion Cho, the only original Band Maiko song is both beautiful and brilliant.
I don't say their Hard Rock. They say that about themselves. I say they're a genre unto themselves, or genreless, since they're not respecter of genres. They're all over the map. But someone else said they're a Punk band with no boundaries. That's fair. Maybe a Power Pop, or a Pop Punk band without boundaries. Sort of a cross between Redd Kross and Shonen Knife but with better chops. Japanese bands have gaps and super long pauses called Ma to build tension. Which personally I like. You could through in a Steely Dan Mu Chord and have Ma Mu, which though technically correct, would make you sound like an idiot trying to explain it. But, given the Jazz chords they just threw in there for no reason, is entirely possible. As far as the Bow that Miku put on the end of that song, there is a certain type of music that she like, I think it in anime a lot. It sounds familiar, but I cannot identify it, and I love it. It's also my favorite thing they've done. But, the instrument you're thinking of that sounds like a Japanese banjo is a Shamisen. Maiko are apprentice Geisha. They're entertainers, not prostitutes. Though they may have regular clients that make outside arrangements with they are allowed to have boyfriends who are not clients. The cultural like to maids is to maids in Maid Cafes, who will sing songs and play games, as opposed to maids that do housekeeping. But Geishas are far more expensive than a trip to a Maid Cafe, though they still pour drinks and laugh at your jokes, most Westerners can't even get into a real Geisha house without an invitation from a regular client, and unless you're very well heeled indeed, you'd better hope he's paying. But now that you've done this one, you have to do the other BAND-MAIKO song 'Gion-Cho'. It's a Stand-Alone song, not a remaid, or remade BAND-MAID song, and more about Kyoto and Geisha Culture.
"Is it Band-Maid? Or Band-Maid?" I mean, if you're getting into the weeds, it's バンドメイド. "What are geishas?" They're entertainers. Kind of a cross between a dinner date and a dinner show? They might serve food, eat with guests, provide polite conversation, perform music and dances, lead party games, etc. depending on the occasion. Cafe maids are actually rather similar; I suspect Miku feels some sort of kinship or reverence for them.
I find it funny that you purposely pause on the solos lol. I think some people take it too seriously and I see a lot of reactors try to tip-toe around stuff like that, it's nice to see someone just have fun with it and not care. I don't think everyone should just coddle the fans so much, people will complain about anything anyway Also I recommend Gion-Cho, it's the only original song they did (I.E not a cover of their other songs) and it's probably my favorite of theirs as Band-Maiko
Aussies love a good serve, go for it, but talking while Kanami is speaking can result in physical confrontation 😝 If music was an entertainment park, B-M would be a mighty rollercoaster, yep not for everyone but there's always the predictable safety of the Motley Crue merry-go-round for those punters. "A long segue into absolutely fcken nothing" 🤣 how Scottish of you, cheers Po 👍🍻

@@PANIC_aka_PinDI was really serious on Patreon by commenting: "Hey, next thing to do is the MAIKO version" 😅 I really didn't watch until the end. Mark had his “got you” moment 😂😂😂
Secret Maiko Lips is probably my top song from them. I don’t really even care for the original. The added traditional instruments give the song a different continuously driving feel. The instrument you’re thinking about is the shamisen. It’s a string instrument that’s played almost percussively, as you hit the strings with this big pick. I know the song isn’t the most complicated or intricate, but the way the chorus flows is just pleasing to listen to. Also, I think they couldn’t go 100% traditional instruments because the band would have nothing to play at that point. They’re not actually playing those instruments as they are sampled. Lastly, I think you’re on the right line of thinking with the Geisha/Maiko/Maid comparison. Maiko are Geisha in training and Geisha are not quite maids but more like high class companion/servants. I believe the prostitutes are called Oiran, who are not quite the same.
First i did like punk and emo before and played ibands of that genre. So no hate on those genres i just think its a phase - for me emo was when i was an angsty teen and complained alot then ounk was when i quit giving a damn. That said this song and a couple of other band maid songs have pop punk, but not emo. With out going into technical stuff. i'd say Emo has a whiny sound to it while punk is anarchy or making fun of something. Also emo tends to be more technical (the heavier it gets) and punk is just power chords with simple riffing. Band-maid is many things but leans towards hard rock more because of all the bends and slides- kinda like blues played faster and aggresively. The pop punk sound you hear comes from the tempo and drums which is common in a lot of japanese bands..
Yeah they kinda got mixed up later - the same way hardcore and metal get lumped together lately. The confusion starterted cause of the genre "emo punk" which was the mix of emo and punk sort of atleast. There were far fewer of those bands and never really mainstream or a band would have just one "emo punk" song and get labeled with the genre. I think people heard about emo punk and then just lumped emo and punk together even if they were really not the same. The way i understand the hate behind emo comes from what the original emo songs were about - whining about life - which people found lame. In comparison to punks rebeliousness or say metal and rocks aggressiveness. So i just found that when talking to friends i would not label something not emo as emo if i want them to have a positive reaction. But for me who has bridged the genres its fine what ever its called infact i like it when genres get mixed at this point in life.
By the way Maeko is what they called apprentice Geisha. Geisha were not exactly prostitutes. Their job definition i would define in simple terms is it is their job to bringing those they entertain to a dream world - a play or just having them attend to a person or group. Which is why they had training in various arts like making great conversation and philosophy, dance and playing musical instruments, and spent a great deal with having a perfect appearance. Now sex of course at was part of that so called dream but it was only done when needed. Like when actor/actress going nude or sex scene but only does it when the role story requires it. The reason they got confused with prostitutes is after WW2 many geisha went into prostitution to survive those times as the lords and wealthy japanese who sponsored them were gone.
There is no traditional equivalent to the bass in Japanese music, I think the closest thing would be the ichigenkin. I don't think their intent was to Wagakki the hell out of these versions just to be playful, have fun, dress up and make Misa do the Taiko call whilst holding a shamisen.

(I try to comment on Band-Maiko's reactions with this explanation, so I know some of you guys who read this comment section have already read it somewhere else, but I'll post it here as well.)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In all the songs of BAND-MAIKO, Saiki uses the word called "京ことば Kyo-kotoba (Kyoto dialect)".
The Japanese instrumental sounds used are
三味線 Shamisen
A Shamisen is a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument derived from the Chinese instrument sanxian. It is played with a plectrum called a Bachi.
琴 Koto
Japanese stringed instrument that resembles a zither; has a rectangular wooden sounding board and usually 13 silk strings that are plucked with the fingers.
和太鼓 Wadaiko
Japanese drums.
尺八 Shakuhachi
A shakuhach is a Japanese longitudinal, end-blown flute that is made of bamboo.
However, in fact, the actual instruments are not used, but rather the composer/guitarist KANAMI typed the sounds of the Japanese traditional instruments.
This is very cool information, thank you for sharing!!

Shes so amazing vocalist vocks really great band and song. parfect scampering!!🎶⚡☝🏻🤘🏼👍✨🌠🌟
Them's fightin' words.)
Oh, and everything Band-Maiko does is gold! Check out Gion-Cho, which is a Band-Maiko original.
😉😉😉
My fave moments were the guitar solo to jazz bridge to metal drop, and then dance beat outr.
Band Maid can produce more diverse and interesting music in a 3 to 4 minute song than most rock bands can in a 6 to 8 minute riff heavy song.
Hi cutie pie.
Sorry, wrong channel
A Maiko (May-ko) is a trainee Geisha from Kyoto.
They also changed their names:
Saiki became Fujiki
Miku became Hatoko
Kanami became Kanoemi
MISA became Umemisa
Akane became Akatsuki
In 2019 they did it again on April 1st releasing the MV to "Gion-Cho" - the only Band-Maiko original. They also released a seven track EP of Band-Maid covers with added traditional instruments plus "Gion-Cho"
"Secret Maiko Lips" (Band-Maids "Secret My Lips")
"Akasimahen" (Band-Maids "Awkward")
"Ansan" (Band-Maids "Anemone")
"Tora and Tora" (Band-Maids "One and Only")

Well you know, we listen to your comments - to an extent... 🙂

Had to make a second comment: You'll like this song even more the more you listen to it.

My 2 favorite parts of the song:
1. Guitar solo to Jazz bridge to heavy drop
2. Dance beat outro

I’ll need to have a look!
Maiko row your boat ashore hallelujah.
Mixing rock with classic-era instrumentation has to be the craziest, but also most epic idea. ^_^
Correct, Oiran were actually the, ahem, courtesans...
It seems I’ve managed to make everyone fine with pausing during the solo, I used to get shouted at constantly 😂😂
Let's remember this was just an April 1st prank that got interestingly out of hand in a typical bandmaid way.
BTW the cafe maid culture openly draws on geisha culture in many ways.
@@markabusireactionsyou have bits you like to repeat and for better or worse so does the band maid fanbase.

A TRIPLE?! You guys are gonna kill me lol
Cheers.

They are getting closer and closer to Miku's dream of becoming a world wide phenomenon. I don't want anybody jumping in on the Band Maid band-wagon.
I’ll collab with them lol

Harder to do now that Miku is a real guitarist.

The reason I like the live versions better is that they use so much compression on their studio versions that I get a headache ;)
That’s a fair point actually, I didn’t think of that. Being selfish lol

I love how Band Maid almost always throw in a coda at the end of the song. Hey, I get it. It's an odd guitar riff.

Next style of Band-Maid, ACOUSTIC. "SAYONAKIDORI." Miku sings. My favorite from a great progressive rock album.
Nope! I have plans lol
"Is it Band-Maid? Or Band-Maid?"
I mean, if you're getting into the weeds, it's バンドメイド.
"What are geishas?"
They're entertainers.
I don't think everyone should just coddle the fans so much, people will complain about anything anyway
Also I recommend Gion-Cho, it's the only original song they did (I.E not a cover of their other songs) and it's probably my favorite of theirs as Band-Maiko
I see you like the parts that Miku sings backing vocals, so I'd suggest the Band-Maid song Freezer. there is no music video but it is worth a listen.
that pause during the solo I think I laughed harder then you. your trolling is great and for that I'm gonna have to ask you to react to the acoustic concert.
The acoustic concert is planned in, don’t worry
I think the next choice which is MANDATORY that follows this, is Secret MAIKO lips.

I kinda throw pop punk and emo together in my head, because they’re so similar 😂

Secret Maiko Lips was a Band Maid song that was converted to a Band Maiko song. (obviously) A year later Band Maiko released their own song which was built to be a Band Maiko song. Gion Cho. It stood head and shoulders above Secret. I'm not sure if it is exactly what you are looking for but I'd be interested to find out. I can't say I always agree with you but none the less, I enjoy your channel. Just stop talking over the solos.

One of my favorite Akane songs, she is a beast in this song. I feel so sorry for those poor drums.
Oh sure, you won’t compare the two songs but at the end you ask us to choose between our children, you monster!
It’s the Maiko version, easily my favorite kid and the other kids just have to get over it.
Well of course I’m gonna take the easy option lol
Very wrong. Geisha are a bastion of traditional arts in Japan.
Fair, I did not know that!
BM are not rock because if you took out their rock elements the chorus is emo?? Similarly, if you take out all the instruments BM are an acapella singing group ;-) Surely, it's the rock elements being in there that is why they are viewed as a rock band?
They’re emo because if you take the basic building blocks of the song, they are emo. Emo is a sub genre of rock…
@@markabusireactions Right. So what is it technically that makes a song more 'emo' rock?
