Nothing wrong with commonwealth just the fact that soccer isn’t all that entertaining and the tickets prices don’t reflect the demand. If tickets were $5 they could get 20-30k out and maybe start building some fans outside the base.
The Wanderers Ground started life as a baseball field, before being used for a variety of sports including North American football. The team itself played it's first game in 2019 and were runner's up in 2020. The stands are indeed temporary but with plenty of ex-pat Brits here in Halifax, the atmosphere at the games is great.

It's nice to see the CPL growing and finding its footing in these first few years of its existence.
with you on Atco Field. The vibes & experience outside the stands though is fantastic as Spruce Meadows is geared for tourists. Needs a bit more improvement on the stands for the fans, vibes though are good as its the only footie club in the city, cant wait to see it grow :)
Love your cheeky comments about Canada’s football infrastructure (yes, I am a Canadian who calls the sport what everyone else in the world calls it). 🇨🇦 Watch out for Canadian teams in the future. Ice hockey is still the number one sport, but it’s expensive for equipment and ice time. Football is actually the most widely played sport among children and Canada is gradually building its development leagues. I don’t expect a World Cup in my lifetime, but Canada will continue to move up in the rankings and field competitive teams. Cheers!
@@_Vancelvany_ I would kill to see a stand on the west side, but not sure how'd they'd accommodate that. The opening of Stoney makes getting there easier as well.
So I coach the University (Canadian) Football Team at York U and the stadium is awesome to watch a game at and is next door to a subway station. Only wish they would fill out the rest of the area surrounding it.
Nice one man! I think it’s pretty cool having a professional soccer team playing on a university campus. I’m managing York United on Football Manager this year and really enjoying it. Hoping to visit Toronto in the future (from UK) and might come to a match at the stadium!
Aside from Vancouver Whitecaps of MLS, I didn't even know there was a team called Vancouver FC, and I'm from Vancouver. They've been around for only 5 months, so no wonder... It tells you how little CPL has been promoted here.
The reason you didn't know there was a team called Vancouver whitecaps aside from the MLS team is because there isn't another of Vancouver whitecaps team. There was only one, the CPL team is Pacific FC
Starlight will be getting stands along the empty, north, side soon; they can finally do that as over the winter the tall electricity transmission tower (or in local parlance, the hydro pole) that was in the way was moved to the opposite side of the road.
Actually the Halifax Citadel that you see today was built when the British and Americans didn't get along. Most fortifications in Canada date from then. Including the walls of Quebec City.
Now you gotta go down the Canadian Football pryamid, recommend checking out some of the venues in League1 Ontario but especially League1 BC or the PLSQ
I support & watch Cavalry FC games @ Spruce Meadows. Man, the Atco Field stands sucks especially those pillars! Really divides (no pun intended) the view especially for me who loves watching the team hold it shape. But the fans make it a great watch, feels like a low tier English club but that's its charm. Matchday has decent space outside the stands for fans to eat, drink, and picnic around so has a community feel to it.
unless they are from a country like England where that's what they call it there. I still call the vacuum cleaner "the hoover" however I always call "articulated lorries" trucks or tractor trailers. Sometimes I call gas "petrol" but usually I call it gas. I used to call hockey hockey but sometimes call it ice hockey because my family in England thought I was talking about running around a field with a little stick when I said hockey.
@Channel Name I agree, I moved to the Prairies a couple of years ago and they call lunch "dinner" and I'm getting used to that one. They call an employee a "hired man" and that one doesn't come as easily to me :) but its the spice of life. If everybody looked the same we'd get tired of looking at each other.
It must be crazy to be the MLS teams from Canada and play in some of the best and most modern stadiums and then pplaying cup games at some of these stadiums
That's because, capitalist geniuses that they are, the owners decided to move to streaming service only tv deal after two years on CBC (one of which was a pandemic year in which all teams played on a sports field in PEI with no fans and electronic advertising superimposed on the screen that often covered the ball when in flight). New league with literally zero exposure.
You can be forgiven for that. It only had its inaugural season in 2019 and then Covid put a wrench in the next couple seasons. The MLS teams, not surprisingly, get most of the attention.

The Wanderer's star shape looks much more Muslim than Jewish. That kind of eight-pointed star is common in Islamic designs, whereas the Jewish star of David is a six-pointed star. Those blue colours are indeed more typical of a traditional Jewish aesthetic, however.
I'm glad Canada has a soccer league but why do the teams use European/World naming schemes instead of North American? Quebec City, Oshawa need teams. So does Edmonton.
Every Canadian citizen must be within a quarter mile of an ice hockey rink. No way. Canada is a very sparsely populated country. Some Canadians must live 200 miles from a Hockey stadium.
Hopefully FC Edmonton will return when we get a better stadium, need to build over repurpose as everything else in the city is too big or too small.
